John Dalton, Benjamin Franklin, and Carl-Gustaf Rossby all of one thing in common. They were all meteorologists. Meteorology is the study of the earth’s atmosphere, weather, and climate changes. A meteorologist is an expert in or student of meteorology; a weather forecaster. A meteorologist typically becomes a weather forecaster for the local news. In order to accurately forecast the upcoming weather, they must gather and interpret data. They use tools to measure the temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed, rainfall, and air pressure. They also warn people at home about severe weather conditions in the surrounding areas, as well as live forecasts of current weather conditions. A meteorologist needs to be confident and willing to try new
Lexy Mason Period 4 Chapter 7 Questions: 1) Distinguish between weather and climate. Summarize how air temperature, high pressure air masses and low pressure air masses affect weather. The weather within earth, is known as a set of physical conditions in the lower atmosphere. This includes temperature, rain fall, humidity, wind speed, and much more. These factors usually tend to occur in many given areas, through a period of either hours or days.
Weather is created by the movement of air masses of different temperature and moisture content moving around the Earth’s atmosphere and interacting with each other.
2. On an individual basis, people use weather forecasts to make a decision regarding what to wear, whether they need an umbrella, guard against the sun or even medication against oddly high pollen
The god Zeus, would be a great meteorologist, as he has very good insight, especially when it comes to the sky. Zeus has great feelings
Jim Cantore became a meteorologist for many reasons. According to Spotlight.TV, Jim said, “‘We want to inform our
Although meteorologist hardly acknowledge that their forecasts are not completely accurate, it is clear that without them the amount of harm would be great. The information of a possible tornado formation helps the public become prepared to the possibility of a tornado. Tornadoes warning systems have come a long way from the days where they were inaccurate and unreliable. Lead times have increased and are becoming more reliable. However, more sensitive technology is needed until forecasts can become more
But not all weathermen are meteorologists, many are broadcast journalists. Broadcast meteorologists are equal to atmospheric scientists. All in all the jobs are alike in many ways but they all do different tasks, even though they help each other to research and predict the climate and weather. Broadcast meteorologist take the data and information given to them from atmospheric scientists, and relay that information to the public, so we can know what the weather will be like for the future, but to also know if severe weather is forthcoming, and the actions needed to avoid serious injury to
Meteorologists use data initialization to create balance in the data presented to the model. Another data anomaly is from data being collected away from the center of a grid. Numerical models use grids, a three-dimensional divide of the atmosphere, to make their forecasts. The middle of these grids is called a grid point. Sometimes the data is not collected at this grid point but at another point in the grid. To even out this data from different locations to use in forecast meteorologists use a process called interpolation. Using interpolation and data initialization to balance data is a process called data assimilation. Some of the methods used to check data include checking if a station always reports wrong data, if the data deviates from what is expected through short term forecasts and checking the data against other data observed near by. Of course they also check if the data falls out of any ranges that are possible to be observed in that area. This data is then used in the numerical weather prediction start point, which is in turn used to forecast weather. Recently data assimilation has become useful with satellite data when surface observations are not
Almost every single adult that either listens to the radio, or watches T.V. in the mornings hears the weather. The weather man is supposed to tell you exactly, or to the best of their knowledge, what is going to happen throughout the day. In my opinion, they may be able to predict, but there is no way they can know exactly what is going to happen. However the viewers believe what they say, so the broadcasters keep their job, and power
All my scientist used telescopes to study stars and discover and find planets. William Herschel Discovered Uranus and created the theory of nebulas.Charles Messier Discovered many of the many 109 star clusters that we know today. Edmond Halley discovered that the comets that people saw in 1531, 1607, and 1682 were actually 1 comet.
We encounter scientists in almost everything we read or hear about in the news today. If we watch a nightly news program to check the weather for tomorrow it as created by a meteorologist, a person who studies the atmosphere. A meteorologist uses scientific principles to explain, comprehend, and observe the atmosphere’s effects on the planet, otherwise known as a forecast. While watching the news a reporter might relay a story about how a crime was solved with forensic science, an application of scientific methods to criminal and civil laws. A forensic scientist collects, preserves, and analyzes evidence during the course of an investigation to find out what actually happened. We may see these scientists interviewed in a crime documentary or portrayed as a character in a television show or movie.
While attending Iowa State, I will pursue a degree in the enviornmental science of meteorology. Beginning in my childhood, I have developed a fascination for the weather and its connections to calculus and physics. Aside from my physics and math classes at school, my knowledge of meteorology comes from a self-taught effort and not school curriculum. While in grade school, I eagerly sought out books on the weather in my school library and I loved to share my discoveries with my friends and even my teachers.
Weather affects people’s overall attitudes about things. Certain types of weather will make people happy while other types will make people gloomy or sad. Weather falls into place with the current holidays that are happening or that have already happened. The different seasons have an impact on the type of weather. Certain seasons may cause it to rain, snow, storm, or be way to hot. During the summer the weather becomes extremely hot in certain parts of the world. This causes dehydration, heat stroke, and other sorts of health issues. The bright side is that it is the time when you can start setting up your pools to go for a swim. There are both upsides and downsides to this season. All of the good treats such as ice-cream and popsicle’s come
And here I am, writing an essay for a college application so I can have the opportunity to major in meteorology. I undoubtedly wish to be an operational forecaster, or maybe the meteorologist who uncovers how to immaculately predict the weather. Then I’ll become a storm chaser after being in the field for a while.
Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place, with respect to variables such as temperature, moisture, wind velocity, and barometric pressure. Weather can be classified as day to day temperature and precipitation activity, where climiate is average atmospheric conditions over longer periods of time. Weather occurs from temperature and moisture differences between one place and another. These differences can occur due to the sun angle at any particular spot. The strong temperature contrast between polar and tropical air gives rise to the jet stream. Weather systems in the mid-latitudes, such as "extratropical cyclones", are caused by instabilities of the jet stream flow. Because the Earth's axis is tilted
