Christina Fuller Professor Pothier-Hill English 101 23 July 2015 Catholicism vs. Seventh-Day Adventism While all Catholics are Christians, not all Christians are Catholic. Seventh-Day Adventists and Catholics are technically both Christians, but their differences outweigh their similarities. They follow the same sacred text, the Bible. The Second Coming of Christ is also a commonality between the two religions. Day of Worship is a controversial difference between the two, Seventh-day Adventists worship on Saturday - known as Sabbath , while Catholics worship on Sunday. Every religion is different in their own way, but each have a commonality, theirs is their loving, all powerful God. Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as the only …show more content…
It is a day of rest (they do not work or have others work for them, emergencies are exceptions) and connection to God. Sabbath is kept from sundown on Friday until sundown on Saturday. The Seventh-day Sabbath originates from Creation, when God rested from His work on the seventh day. Keeping the Sabbath is a perpetual sign of the everlasting covenant between God and his people, a symbol of love. God gave each one of us life, and guarding the Sabbath and keeping it holy shows reverence and respect to God, our creator. The Sabbath is a golden opportunity to engage in activities that will help establish and enhance a long-lasting relationship with God, rest and fellowship in nature along with reading the Bible are common activities on the Sabbath as well as other days. On Sabbath, as well as every other day, constant contact with God is kept. Adventists talk to him like a friend, we serve a wonderful God who wants to be our friend, He is a loving, caring God who wants us to feel loved and protected by …show more content…
While the Bible clearly shows, God alone can forgive sins, and Christ is the one Mediator between God and man, God uses men to bring about his reconciliation. Confession of sins is a ministry of reconciliation. The confession of serious or mortal sins to a priest forces your conscience to recognize your sins. Examining your conscience is necessary if you are to advance in holiness and become more faithful to Christ. It is known as the sacrament of confession, since the confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament. It is also a "confession" of acknowledgement and praise of the holiness of God and His mercy and pardon towards sinful
Catholics and Baptists both believe in relatively the same big points. Catholics and Baptists both believe in God as
Dearly beloved brethren, the Scripture moveth us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness, and that we should not dissemble nor cloke them before the face of Almighty God our heavenly Father, but confess them with an humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart—to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same by his infinite goodness and mercy.
Foster when on to mention that without God’s grace, no confession should be made. Confession is a Discipline that is difficult, because “the believing community as a fellowship of saints before we see it as a fellowship of sinners” (Foster, 1998, p. 145). Believers are given the ability to confess sin, and are given the authority to be forgiven of sin. 1 John 4:19 says, “we love because he first loved us” (ESV). This verse demonstrates why our confessions are followed by forgiveness for our sins. Sorrow and determination to avoid sin are essentials needed when confessing to seek forgiveness. Foster says, “honesty leads to confession, and confession leads to change” (Foster,1998, p.157). Usually my time of confession is during my prayer time, but for this challenge I decided to dedicate special time just for confession. I decided to work on my mindset before confession to try and listen to the advice Foster provided in his book. When I was able to work several days there was a sense of relief, and I felt a huge weight lifted off of my soldiers. Confession is not only a way to ask for forgiveness, but also a time to look within and see where your life needs work and where a person needs to lean on
When the Lord created the heavens and earth, He did so in six days and on the seventh day He rested. The Lord rested to reflect on the magnificence of His work. In honor of this day of rest, the Lord taught the ancient people of Israel to revere the seventh day, called the Sabbath; by refraining from all forms of labor and instead, use this day to reflect on the magnificence of the Lord.
The Seventh Day Adventists and Christians are alike with their views of God. However, Adventists have many differences that set them apart from Christianity, as well as other
Throughout the history of Christianity, Sabbath teachings have always been a fundamental characteristic of the religion. The Sabbath was created by God to allow the people of Earth to strive under His influence and truly appreciate the delight and the magnificence of the world surrounding them. Additionally, the teachings of the Sabbath have shaped the framework for how Christians should morally and ethically live in a world crowded by distraction, financial greed, and overlabor.
One insight that James White (2000) has noted for me is “Reconciliation was not considered a sacrament in any of the Reformation churches although Luther encouraged private penance, and penitential elements became a conspicuous part of Sunday worship. With all its shortcomings, the medieval practice of penance did enable men and women to live life with the concrete assurance that God had truly acted to forgive them when they had been truly contrite, confessed to a priest, and performed works of satisfaction” (pp. 268-269).
Pastor Johann Arnold states that: When we forgive someone for a mistake or a deliberate hurt, we still recognize it as such, but instead of lashing out or biting back, we attempt to see beyond it, so as to restore our relationship with the person responsible for it. Our forgiveness may not take away our pain- -– it may not even be acknowledged or accepted -– yet the act of offering it will keep us from being sucked into the downward spiral of resentment. Forgiveness of one's self by the guilty party allows the guilty party to accept what they have done, deal with it, heal and move on with their partner. Forgiveness does not excuse or minimize the behaviour, forgiveness allows each person to be released from the past and to start living in the present once again. Forgiving is "a point where we are less in touch with the pain of the betrayal and more in touch with the acceptance of the person and the action" (Cordova, 2006, p.
Also known as Shabbat is Judaism’s day of rest and the seventh day of the week. The Sabbath day, I feel is one of the Ten Commandments that can be easy to obey, but generally forgotten about. I am Christian who tries to obey the commandments as best as I can, and I honestly find myself forgetting to follow this one. Some common activities many people do on Sabbath day which are actually prohibited are baking, kindling/demolishing a fire (e.g. bonfire), writing two or more letters and erasing two or more letters; some of which are typical daily activities. Benefits of the holy day would be a day of rest, family bonding and it might bring a blessing to know God more. Who wouldn’t love a day of rest? With our busy lives it might be nice to have
The Sabbath is the day, which my Lord and Saviour Yahshua Ben Yahweh, the Eternal King of the universe rested from His creative power; where in He created “the heavens and the earth and everything in them.”
It was on Easter Sunday that Jesus told the Apostles that God sent him to save us from our sins, so then Jesus sent the Apostles. This is when the gift of priesthood was granted to the Apostles. We cannot just simply tell God that we are sorry and leave it at that. Yes, God does want us to confess our sins to him directly, but there is a reason he gave the Apostles the power to forgive sins as well. He understands that we need to confess our sins aloud to another person. When he gave the Apostles this power, he did not give them the power to read our minds. This means that the only other way to know our confessions is to hear them. God also gave priests the power to forgive sins, meaning that he wants us to confess to a priest who addresses
However, possibly the most integral part of Jewish life is the Shabbat, described as the “centrepiece” of Jewish life. The Shabbat is key when discussing Jewish life, as discussed in the Torah, remaining evident in today’s contextual society. When completing the creation of the World, God, on the Seventh Day,“he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”. The acknowledgement of the need for a day of rest on the behalf of God, the Shabbat, is a feature that is most oftenly maintained in the modern day, with many Jewish people working from Monday to Friday, and resting on the Shabbat, beginning Friday night and carrying on into Saturday eveningunday. In drawing comparisons of God’s demand of rest on the Sabbath and the thirteen principles of Jewish faith, the principle that can be best related to the subject is the initial statement: [1] Belief in the existence of the Creator, who is perfect in every manner of existence and is the Primary Cause of all that exists. If adherents are to fully believe in God’s work, then they must believe in the fact that God took the Seventh day off to rest, also relating to the principle that takes into consideration the purity of the Torah, [9] The belief in the immutability of the Torah . In relation to the quote in Deuteronomy, God says
Just as the tenth day of the seventh month comes on different days of the week, and the tenth day is known as Sabbath, it stands to reason that there isn’t just one Sabbath in every week. Just as the seventh month and tenth day is to be the day of atonement, (a Sabbath of Rest) and it may fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or whatever day of the week, there is still a seventh day of the week (Saturday) Sabbath in that same week.

The Sabbath day was a day of rest (Genesis 2:3). Unlike our days of twenty-four hours that begin at twelve O 'clock midnight, the Jews day begins at the setting of the sun till the setting of the sun, which marks the next day.
