My first introduction to nutrition began at age eleven when I would often read health books at my leisure. As a result, I slowly began practicing nutritious habits and even encouraged family members to join me. After realizing how I positively impacted close family members into making healthier diet and lifestyle choices, I came to understand the value that education can have in creating change. I was eager and motivated to start a career helping others live healthier lives and desired to use my dietetics degree to make an influential impact on rural and underserved areas where resources and community organizations are limited, yet necessary.

Food -- it is a necessity. There is not one person who does not think about it on a daily basis. For a college student, the quality of food available is not always to the highest of standards. Many students can not afford to buy expensive food or eat out on a regular basis. Many times their only option left is to eat from their school’s dining halls.

A sports dietician provides individual and team nutrition counseling and education to them in order to improve the athlete’s diet and health. The science related career that I chose was a dietitian. The main parts of this job are to help and tell people about healthy eating and living. Some of the other tasks of a dietitian are, giving people advice about healthy eating, making presentations, doing reports, making sure that people can accept their illnesses, explain health nutrition to the public, helping people with dietary changes and knowing all the key health needs. Dietitians are trained health care professionals. They have to know how to help people change their eating habits to help people with sometimes life threatening illnesses. A dietitian researches new ways to improve health care and can prepare future dietitians for their jobs.
