Did Adolf Hitler work alone during the Holocaust? Some would say yes, for it was Hitler and Nazi soldiers that physically executed and tortured Jews during the Final Solution. However, Hitler did not immediately start murdering Jews when he became Chancellor in 1933. He did implement the Nuremberg laws, but the majority of white German citizens did not challenge these laws. They accepted anti-Semitic propaganda and did not try to rescue Jewish citizens from ghettos or concentration camps. These were civilians, not Nazi soldiers. Their indifference led to the deaths of over 6 million people during the Holocaust. Indifference is the most ruthless accomplice of evil, carrying two main weapons and leaving evidence of its dangerous ways throughout
During World War II from 1933 to 1945 in Europe, horrifying systematic events took place were millions of innocent people were tortured and killed based on their religious views, culture, and sexual orientation. The Nazi’s under the command of Adolf Hitler committed these crimes. These horrifying systematic events that took place are known as the Holocaust. The following texts Elie Wiesel’s Night, Eve Bunting’s Terrible Things, and Martin Niemoller First They Came all convey how the surrounding public during World War II stayed silent and didn't stand up for the people who were being oppressed. All three of these texts explains why it is highly important to stop indifference and inaction. Indifference can lead to horrific actions; those actions can probably lead to the genocide of an entire group, furthermore the inaction of a bystander can not only affect and hurt the victim but can also strongly affect the bystander, and finally inaction against oppression can harm and devastate many lives.
People can be cruel, malicious, and awful to each other, that is a fact, consequently, blame may be pinned on these people for the catastrophic events in history, but sometimes the bystanders are just as guilty. This is clear in the horrible event known as the Holocaust, the Nazis were terrible, murdering as many as 6 million innocent people, clearly the blame is on them. This tragic event lasted an astounding 12 years from 1933-1945, but could the Holocaust have ended sooner if the US had intervened earlier on? Bringing into account the idea of indifference. The dictionary definition of indifference is “lack of concern, interest, or empathy.”
Many people stood by and did nothing while Adolf Hitler killed millions. Some people might have not done anything because of the pure fact that they were scared for their lives, and for the lives of their families. Others may not have done anything because they agreed with Hitler. Some may of just of not cared what was going on as long as it did not affect theme.
During the Holocaust the Jews were seen as creatures and treated as if they were creatures. When Moishe the Beadle came back from the forest where he was forced to dig holes by the Hungarians, He said he saw terrible scenes. Moishe said, “Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the machine guns.”(Wiesel 6), But the people of Signet didn’t believe Moishe, The jews that were in the camps probably could’ve avoided all the pain and suffering throughout their time in the camps. That quote proves that the Nazis did not care about the Jews and were doing it out of pure joy and following orders. That quote also showed to what low-level we can come down to.Living in the concentration camp meant your life could be taken away any second for any reason. The Nazis took lives that didn't matter to Jews but it could’ve meant the world for them.
First, at 4:45 am on September 1, 1939 Hitler stationed 1.5 million German soldiers in Poland starting World War II. Hitler started World War II when he invaded Poland in 1939 and killed a rebellion in Germany getting rid of his main threat to his plan. Second, Hitler and the Nazis also got a lot more violent and aggressive towards the Jews. When Hitler started the Holocaust he started killing, torturing, and forcing Jews to do work. Finally, on May 8, 1945 Hitler killed himself ending the Holocaust. During the Holocaust Hitler rounded up 6 million Jews, the sick, those with disabilities, and handicapped people all around Europe. Adolf Hitler played a key role in World War II because he made many interesting decisions throughout the
The infamous Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel once said, “Being a neutral bystander helps those who are evil; that remaining silent encourages even more evil to happen.” Wiesel was part of the millions of Jews and protesters who Nazis shipped off to numerous concentration camps during the Holocaust. The apprehended and inaccurately claimed convicts had to go through many terrors to survive. Wiesel was one of the few Jews who survived the time Hitler ruled. I agree with Wiesel’s significant quote for many various reasons. To begin, I agree with Wiesel’s statement because victims that could have helped others during the Holocaust ignored that there were evil actions occurring around them during the time Hitler ruled. The victims also ignored
The people scared to look behind them, in fear of what they may see, did exactly what the Nazi demanded. The poor mothers and children dressed in shorts and skirts almost frozen to death, just a jacket wasn’t enough to keep you warm in this weather. The soldiers just
When Hitler became chancellor of Germany in 1933, he immediately began enforcing an authoritative state. An authoritative state is a state favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom. Hitler started a world war to achieve his dream of world domination. The war left behind an estimated 72 million dead, among them 47 million civilians, of whom some six million were Jewish. Jews were the targets of the Holocaust because Hitler hated Jews and blamed them for all of the problems in the world. Throughout the years of the Holocaust, this is seen in many ways, starting from the Nazis having book burnings to get rid of un-German writings proclaiming the death of Jewish intellectualism all the way to the extremity of the mass murder of Jews. This process progressed rapidly, and it had lasting effects for the entire world.
They left them to starve with little food, to work in all terrible, deplorable, uncouth conditions all for them to feel and to be treated like vile animals. Prisoners even acted like animals fighting for food, water and clothing - anything to get them to live one more day. A lack of compassion for others can not change what they saw in the concentration camp ”bela katz- son of a big tradesman from our town-had arrived at Birkenau with the first transport, a week before us. When heard of our arrival, he managed to get word to us that, having been chosen for his strength, he had himself put his father’s own body into the crematoria oven “ (Wiesel 33) Having to put his own father into his own death bed is a harrowing experience and not being able to protest at the fear of his own death is an irrefutable memory that will never be forgotten. The nazis and their unvarnished mistreatment, ciless hostility that showed no compassion for the prisoners “ then came the march past the victims two men were no longer alive .their tongues were hanging out swollen and bluish . but the third rope was still moving; the child too light was still breathing ….. And so he remained for more than half an hour lingering between life and death, writhing before our eyes.and we were forced to look at him at close range he was still alive when i passed him .his tongue was still red, his eyes not yet extinguished”(Wiesel 65) . death
What has been a hot topic for several years now is why the NCAA still refuses to pay their student athletes as well as ban them from making any financial income off their names. The amount of time put in to athletics can interfere with performance in the classroom. They are students first and athletes second and the purpose of the scholarship is to get an education while competing in athletics. A highly controversial topic for several is the amount of time put in to athletics can interfere in the classroom while at the same time, they are students first and athletes second NCAA athletes have gone on for several years trying
A quote from Albert Einstein states “the world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything”. As difficult as it is to describe the terrible deeds of those who were part of the Holocaust, it is true that those who did nothing are at fault just as much as those who carried out the actions. When one thinks of the Holocaust today it is difficult to picture that such events were done by human beings. Societies have advanced but it is important to acknowledge the reason as to why many bystanders refused to help or why they were so indifferent to the pain felt by the Jews. “The psychological mechanisms used to come to terms with the suffering of another appear to be very similar, whether the person is standing right before us or is 2,000 miles away. (Barnet:118) Barnett explains that ideological and moral principles also come into play, as do self-interest and the weighing of the possible consequences of our actions. We try to establish what is or is not possible. In the end, our decision will be determined not so much by whether we actually have the power to change a situation, but whether we have the will to do so. (Barnett, 118). In the case of many of the individuals who chose to become bystanders rather than change the situation they were not willing to get involved. Although not every German was a bystander, those who
Hitler thought of the Jewish population as a worthless society and treated the individuals as worthless creatures. When Hitler came to power, he established the camps "for the purpose of isolation, punishing, torturing, and killing Germans suspected of opposition to his regime."10 The Germans wanted to guarantee the death of as many Jews as possible "while extracting some useful labor from the doomed."11 The camps were set up technically and psychologically to
The German Soldiers did many things to Jews, and it should have been stopped earlier than it did. The way that they treated the children and the prisoners were worse than what it ever should have been. “Get up! Roll call!” We stood. We were counted. We sat down. We got up again. Over and over. We waited impatiently to be taken away. What were they waiting for? Finally, the order came: “Forward! March!” (19). They were treated like dogs doing the same thing over and over, waiting for something good to happen, waiting to be taken away. Not caring about their lives is one thing, but they also did not care if it was just one person that messed up. Everyone would be killed if one person made
Hitler had shown unwillingness to tolerate the Jews and once he was appointed Chancellor, he started to take elimination measures like deportation, forced emigration, and isolation to enforce his belief. He took advantage of Germany’s weakness in World War One, then used it as an opportunity to blame the Jews for Germany’s defeat. Hitler’s political party was the largest political party in Germany thus allowing them to draw very large crowds to gatherings. He had very good oratory speeches with hand gestures that easily manipulated people to adhere to his views. Hitler constantly targeted the Jews because he knew people believed in these speeches. People in Germany were already anti-semitic but Hitler made it worse by constantly consuming them in his speeches. From the way he spoke about the Jews, we could clearly see the possibility of genocide. Hitler wanted Germany to be free of any humans that anyone other than his ideal master race so he personally selected bodyguards to be part of a group called the SS. Hitler was responsible for ordering the SS to carry out the extermination of anyone who did not fit this ideal. The SS handled oppositions using force and as a result of which people were forced to give into the idea of violence. Sometimes people purposely went along with this Holocaust ideal due to the fear of getting killed. These terrors allowed the holocaust occur
The Old Spice commercial called “The man your man could smell like” is unique. When you first watch it, it almost looks like it is mocking men in a way. There are many different angles the audience can take on this advertisement campaign. Normally, a men’s advertisement would only focus on selling to men, but in this case Old Spice is targeting both men and women. They are doing this by drawing in both sexes by telling them what can be achieved if this product is used. If a woman’s man uses this, all their desires will come true, and if a man uses this, he will be able to please his woman in all different ways. Something else that stood out to me was that they portrayed their actor as a well-fit muscled man who is coincidentally handsome.
