WISCONSIN, THE BADGER STATE The soothing breeze blows gently through the trees and down low to the branches, going under and over the tall mountains and green, grassy valleys. Cows in black and white graze on the olive colored field of grass, waiting steadily amidst the sights of this beautiful state. More and more dairy products such as cheese, curd, yogurt, and milk are being produced quick as can be in the busy factories. As the blue skies start to clear out for nightfall, the animals start to get ready for the end of the day. This herd keeps no distance from each other, and together they all slowly start walking to their way to their resting spot. Some are under the water, on land, and up in the air. Wisconsin has over 160 fish species, which include the largemouth bass, bluegill, and black crappie. In lakes, northern pikes roam freely throughout the day. They can reach three or four feet a day in length, and are speckled. Lake Winnebago has the greatest population of sturgeon. These fish lay eggs called caviar, making people consider them as a delicacy. In most lakes, other small fish are found, such as rock bass, yellow perch, and sunfish. Over three hundred types of mollusks, oysters, snails, and mussels are also there. There are quite a few species of birds, four hundred eight to be exact. Wisconsin is a birdwatcher’s paradise. This state has pheasants, hawks, wild turkeys, and eagles common all throughout the state. Typically, there are one million Canadian geese that visit Horicon National Wildlife Refuge near Waupun each year. Wisconsin’s wildlife has many animals, including the grey wolf, wild turkey, eastern redbud, pumas, and much more. Most dairy animals, such as cows and goats graze on grass standing in the middle of stretched out plains, fern green like tree tops.
