I n t h e p a s t , Australia has participated in substantial events, poised against other ethnicities, but as Australia’s identity emerges, we discover just how far we’ve come since the White Australia Policy and the Cronulla Riots. However, under closer inspection, we discover the real truth, and that is that we truly haven't moved forward at all, and that realistically we put up the facade of being a multicultural country, but once that mask is removed, Australia is just the same as it was all those many years ago.
Despite being one of the most devastating military losses for the allied forces during World War 1, for some reason it is considered one of the most important and celebrated holidays in Australian history. Why was this, that something that cost so many Australian lives, considered something to be celebrated and cheered on about. The answer of this will be explained after a basic background is established.

Australia day, the national holiday where the Europeans took the land from the aboriginals and hundreds of deaths took place, what a great thing to celebrate! For years now, aboriginals have protested to change Australia days' date, the 26th of January, because of the true significance behind it. It is commonly suggested that the 1st of January should be Australia day as it is the federation of Australia. The date is not a thing to be celebrated as it is the day where families were killed, homes were stolen and it does not celebrate Australia as a whole, because of this, Australia day must be changed. To Aboriginals, Australia day is known as, 'Day of Mourning' or 'Survival day', as it marks the dispossession, theft, slaughter, disease and death of their people.

Over the past 230 years, Aboriginals have protested in many different ways to gain rights, which they believe they are deserving of. Through aims of what they wanted to achieve, the processes they went through brought them disappointment over the poor results of some actions and pleasure over the success of others. Over those years, very few periods of protest have been as revelational or effective as the protests occurring between 1938 and 1972. During this period many different groups of Aboriginals have fought for the common cause of being recognised as people rather than interferences caught in the midst of Australians expansion as a nation.

The most immediate was consequence of the British invasion was a wave of diseases the Europeans brought with them, Through the power of speech and words as a whole, it allowed for the Aboriginal people to embrace their culture for who they are and leave their former selves in the dust of their forefathers who have come
Contrary to what Anderson proposes, in the case of Australia, it can be said that the primary day of celebration is racist toward Indigenous people. Hence the campaign to Change the Date, reveals the inextricable links between the two terms. The 26th of January belongs mostly to an Australian that was happy to define itself as being for the white man. To reiterate, Australia Day is not just offensive to the Indigenous population, but it is a day, of all days that the Indigenous population don’t feel ‘Australian’ (Bond, The Conversation, 2015). Dan Sultan (ABC, 2017) agreed while it was a good idea to have a national day of celebration, the current day should be see as one
