He played for the NY Yankees for 20 historic seasons known as the prime for their organization. His position for them was shortstop and never played anywhere else for the Yankees. In regards to athletes who are viewed as heroes, I feel Barry Bonds has to be somewhere near the top. I have been to several San Francisco Giants baseball games and everyone I have talked to at those games boasts about how great he was. Somehow the people who admire him are able to overlook the fact that he took performance-enhancing drugs to become an elite player and set baseball records. The Giants have even hired him to work with the current team and plan to retire his number. To me, this is a way of saying to the current members of the Giants, along with their fans, that is okay to cheat and take drugs because in time all will be forgiven. Players like Bonds who take drugs to cheat should be banned and have no business being around current

Do you prefer a bases loaded double that clears the bases and involves an exciting play at home plate? Or a boring three-run homerun where the base runners trot around the bases, while the defense stands around with dazed looks on their faces? Do you prefer stolen bases, squeeze plays, and trying to move the base runners to make something happen; as opposed to a team waiting for someone to hit a homerun? If you answered “yes” then consider yourself a fan of “small ball.” The characteristic of a Designated Hitter is the major difference between Major League Baseball’s two leagues: The American League and the National League.
