With the way the world is today it is to no surprise to find just how depraved the legal system truly is. What is the legal system? According to the Collins Dictionary the legal system is, “the set of laws of a country and the ways in which they are interpreted and enforced.” It seems as if now the legal system has been twisted by authority figures for their own personal gain.

One issue that makes me furious would be the inequality between men and women when it comes to prison sentences. There have been countless cases where men and women have committed the same crime yet the woman receives a less severe sentence than the man. According to a 2012 study done by Sonja Starr, an assistant law professor at the University of Michigan, men receive sentences that are 63 percent higher than a woman that committed the same crime. For example, Etta Ann Urdiales was murdered on February 21, 1986 both Jesse Jacobs and Bobbie Hogan confessed. They were tried in front of two entirely different juries, one convicted Hogan the other convicted Jacobs yet the woman, Hogan, was …show more content…

Now witnesses have the ability to have video documentation of these violent assaults and spread them all over the internet within moments. People of Color such as Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, and many more are victims of documented police brutality that sadly died as a result. A popular social media hashtag, “#BlackLivesMatter” empowers young people to help put an end to police brutality. As a result of the hashtag many police officers have been terminated for their actions. The danger of the fact that more and more people are becoming aware of police brutality is that now people assume that all police officers are the same. One thing people need to learn is that there are good police officers and there are bad police officers they should not all be stereotyped as awful
