The article “Families Are Taken into Custody as Push to Deport Immigrants Denied Refuge Begins." is about a woman, Joanna Gutierrez, who talks about how her 30 years old niece Ana Lizet Mejia, and her niece’s 9 years old son were taken by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Mejia came to America in 2014 for seeking refuge from violence, when his brother was killed by gangs. In her interview she talked about how one day agent's first entered Mejia house without warrants, and said they can enter her without any kind of warrants. Those agents searched the whole house, but didn’t really find anything but they take her to court. This affects me personally because I belong to immigrant family who came from another country so we could live a better future. Americans are always pointing their fingers towards immigrants for the country's problem such as the downfall in the economy (taking away jobs), crimes, changing of culture, population,etc, but in reality immigrants are literally building America up brick by brick. People believe that the US is a best place to live because there is more freedom, protection, and opportunity. No country has the right to take that away from anyone. America was formed by immigrants, then why are we stopping now?
This article is related to the public policy topic because it deal with one of the most important issues of immigration. It is related to the American government because it is their responsibility to make policy regarding immigration. There are over 11 million illegal immigrants in US right now, and if we talk about deporting them it seems nearly impossible because we don’t have enough resources.
