A football involved in the Deflategate scandal involving the New England Patriots, their quarterback Tom Brady, and the National Football League (NFL), has sold at auction, fetching $43,739.99, according to The Washington Post.
The ball was used in the 2014 AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Indanapolis colts. Tom Brady handed the ball off to LeGarrette Blount in the third quarter of the game, and Blount carried it into the endzone.
At the completion of the touchdown, Blount dropped the ball in celebration, where by it was picked up by Patriot’s receiver Brandon LaFell and delivered to a fan in the stands, now known to be Laura Nichols.
Nichols chose to hand the ball over to the auction house Lelands.com, to handle the sale of the ball. The ball was acutioned Saturday, with a ereserve of $25,000. After just five bids, the auction concluded, and the Deflategate memorabilia sold for less than the anticipated six figures, but for far more than what Nichols paid for it - nothing.

“Although the balls were reinflated to the proper levels for the second half, the report by Ted Wells commissioned by the NFL said that they were in fact the same balls used during the first half,” said Darren Rovell of ESPN.com, in a report in Bleacher Report. “So while it’s unclear exactly how much that particular ball was used in the first half, it was in the rotation of deflated Patriot’s footballs. The Wells report cited the testing of four balls after the game.”
The auctioned Deflategate football, is the only football from either the 2014 AFC Championship game or the Patriot’s Super Bowl win over the Seattle Seahawks that was ever available to the
Tom Brady wants to take the NFL to federal court, to appeal his charges of four-regular season game suspension and fined the Patriots with a $1 million fine. I believe that the NFL should negotiate Tom Brady’s charges, before he takes it to the federal courts. There is no direct evidence that could prove Brady’s involvement with the football deflation at the AFC Championship game, even though Brady’s appeal hearing sounded inadequate. He could beat the federal case because there is no proof of his involvement. Brady doesn’t have much more to lose if the suspension is upheld, then the NFL does. Ted Wells stated that his team (NFL) has already been billed $5.5 million, with an additional $600,000 for hiring other experts. By negotiating a deal
Finally, the NFL found that 11 of the 12 Patriot footballs were under-inflated. They were investigating whether the Patriots did this on purpose or it was just an accident. Either way there will be consequences. There are also many questions the players want to be answered. Pat McAfee, Colts kicker/punter, asked if they would be playing in the superbowl or not. Patriots cornerback, Brandon Browner, says that he could have carried a beach ball and they still would have won. The Colts were not happy about what the patriots did, and neither is the NFL. So they have been thinking about what they should do about it
The Black Sox scandal is similar to what is going on today with the New England Patriots football team, and their quarterback Tom Brady. Brady has been suspended for four games in the upcoming season, because “he ruined the integrity of the sport”, for is actions in deflategate. The players involved in the Black Sox scandal were suspended and never reinstated for their part in the throwing of the 1919 World Series against the Cincinnati Reds.
This case opened up more suspicion and also caused an effect on people regarding the hidden information that the NFl
Besides, the 2015 Deflategate indicates that the New England Patriots used the underinflated footballs in the game. According to a now-discredited leak from the laegue, the 11 of the New England Patriots’ 12 game footballs were deflated 2 PSI below the 12.5 PSI minimum legal requirement. The aftermath of
When it comes to sports, a competitive mindset is key. In American football, it’s hard not to win without communication and teamwork. In the NFL playoffs of 2015, the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-7 for the AFC Championship. In a game that originally portrayed the Patriots as an offensive force to be reckoned with, ended out to be a game that goes down in history. After further investigation, the NFL found 11 of the Patriots' 12 footballs in the game to be underinflated by about 2 pounds below the NFL’s requirement. Now whether the allegations are determined to be true or not, it does raise some speculation about the truth of the AFC
The 8-year media deals that the NFL did with ABC, CBS, FOX, ESPN, and Direct TV in January 1998 are worth $17.6 billion. It has fewer games than any other professional sport, but takes in the most money by far. To ABC, broadcasting Monday Night Football for eight seasons was worth $4.4 billion ($550 million per year). CBS agreed to pay $4 billion ($500 million per season) for exclusive rights to AFC games. FOX also agreed $4.4 billion for the right of NFC games. ESPN agreed to pay $4.8 billion ($600 million per year) for Sunday night
The football was placed in a large see-through bag along with other personal items of Reagan. Reagan’s case and personal items were missing for several hours with no idea where the could of been placed or who could've taken them. After several hours of chaos and searching for the deadly case, the bag with the case and personal items were found in the hospital in the storage room where it was hidden by an unknown person. During this event that took place, this is the only time that the nuclear football was out of the hands of the President or one of his military aids. Only the world knows what could’ve happened if the case fell into the wrong hands. The world could turned out completely different if the case was used against American due to the case holding the ability to end human life in blink of an
Numerous former employees say the Patriots would have someone rummage through the visiting team hotel for playbooks or scouting reports. The whole league knows the Patriots are cheaters and they cover their tracks after they leave Boston. The deflategate was no accident; it was a purposeful act. The Patriots claim innocence in the incident. The Patriots are not victims because other teams claim Patriots have cheated against them, Former Patriot employees claim they were asked to cheat for the team, and Patriots claims about weather conditions are false.
Contests in skill, strength and speed have occupied an important place in every culture throughout the ages. The meaning of the term sport and the effect that sport has on society is always changing. Sports have especially changed in the last two decades and can certainly be evidence by the growing number of labor disputes and court cases involving all sports.
“The NFL must open its eyes to the consequences of its actions. The NFL has the power not only to give former players the care they deserve, but also to ensure that future generations of football players do not suffer the way that many in my generation have.” (“Mega-Lawsuit”).
Younger collectors tend to want to play with their prized collectible footballs, so a wall-mount style is usually best for them. Mature collectors want something they can show off to their buddies, and have more control when handling an autographed ball, or one that's considered valuable. For these collectors, a tabletop case would be perfect.
While growing up in the state of Texas I was introduced to National Football League (NFL) at a very young age. Not only was I obsessed with great players like Emmitt Smith and Michael Irving, I had a more finical appreciation for the lucrativeness associated with the NFL. My young adulthood as well as my teenage years was spent playing and learning football with the aspirations of hopefully making it to the NFL. Unfortunately, my playing days ended with tryouts at Texas Tech University, but my love for the game has remained stagnant over the years even till this day. The NFL today is Americas most watched sports league and has taken the crown as the most lucrative and unique economic force in sports. Forbes offered approximations stating that on average, the NFL generates more than $6-9 billion a year in revenues alone. A third of the individual franchises in the league were appraised at over more than $1 billion while the other franchises average nine figures or higher. The NFL as an organization generates its revenues through a multitude of ways ranging from huge television contracts, in-stadium ticket sales, advertising ads paid for by sponsors and merchandise. Their business model unlike most other leagues, is centered on a hard salary cap on player contracts which provides cost certainty with its sponsors. In this paper, I will examine the economic and historical narrative associated with the growth of the NFL’s
When you spend money on autographed footballs or authentic game balls, you need a football display case to exhibit such valuable treasures. After all, you did not buy that particular piece of sports memorabilia to hide it away in a closet. It deserves to be shown off. It deserves a prominent place of honor in your home. However, just setting a football on the mantle or an end table will not do it justice. Having an official display case lets visitors, whether friends, family or strangers, know that you have gotten your hands on something special.
Though this NFL conduct is in the light, it is unnecessary because the U.S. criminal justice system has the ability to end the professional sports careers of society’s worst criminals. Everyone asked themselves how could such a successful, talented person throw their opportunity away like this? Crimes from the past always catch up and come to light in the justice system. The NFL from now on is trying to prevent incidents like this from happening from making their off field standards stronger, and making consequences stronger that come with
