Welcome to New Haven Middle School’s Veterans Day Assembly. A lot of people think it’s just another assembly that you go to and just listen to people talk, but it’s more than just that. It’s about honoring our loved ones and the fallen ones, the ones who came back injured or scarred for life. We go to airports and gym’s where a meeting s held to welcome home our soldiers. Some kids ask their parents or someone they know about who gives us our freedom. All they have to say is someone who fights for our country. Freedom is NOT free. It may seem free because certain people are out fighting to protect us and our country. Some people throw a party or a huge welcome home gathering or make tons of signs to show their thanks. I’m sure they love it but I’m also sure all they would want is a simple thank you.

Our veterans are extremely courageous, they sacrifice themselves and their lives because they know how many people they’d be protecting and helping. They knew the risks of their living, but they did it anyway for their loved ones, for all of America, and for honor. Veterans are all heroes and all are thanked by the people of America on this special day. These wonderful people all have undying determination, they always accept their responsibility with integrity. These heroes ambitiously fought with compassion, eager to protect America.

Freedom is a feeling as well as a state of being. It can be both internal and external. Although it is nearly impossible to achieve true freedom, many people are able to find a balance between everyday stress and letting go. For example, imagine a bird in a cage. Internally, the bird is free to think and desire anything, but externally, it is trapped inside a cage and therefore limited in where it can go and what it can do. The bird has accepted that it will be in a cage forever but this sadness can be balanced out with the knowledge that it will always be cared for and loved.
