“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy”. They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life.(google.com/images)” Unlike John Lennon, some see happiness as a shallow goal in life. Some think wisdom, self-improvement, or improving the world is more worthwhile and unselfish. Yet philosophers throughout history still thought it was important enough to spend time and energy exploring the way to reach it. Even today, people are still on a constant search for it, whether consciously or subconsciously. Happiness is more than just a feeling, it is its own entity with meaning, …show more content…
How can it be found? According to an article from Psychology Today, happy people feel positive emotions a larger percentage of the time than they do negative emotions. It also states that happiness is a state of being satisfied with and appreciative of life, as well as feeling emotions in a positive and healthy way (Khoddam, R., What’s Your Definition of Happiness?). Emotions are not necessarily negative in themselves; what is negative is what people do when they experience those emotions and how they deal with them. Those who are happy feel negative emotions, but they deal with them in different ways than unhappy people. Many today are also, like the philosophers of old, discovering that happiness is found within oneself. Happiness cannot be found in another person, or activity, or a life without conflict. Happiness comes from inside, and when that is realized, true happiness can be found. Permanent happiness can be …show more content…
Happiness is fluid, inconstant, and achievable. However, it cannot be reached through any one true way. Depending on who you are, there will be a different path you choose to take towards happiness. Or, if you make happiness a life commitment, there is no specific process that will help you progress any better than the others. Happiness cannot be found in any one thing because it is not any one thing. Happiness is an entity with significance in history, meaning, and scientific backing. It is not even complicated. Happiness can be achieved by anyone looking for it. And in the words of Polish actress Izabella Scorupco, “The most simple things can bring the most
Happiness is not something that only lucky people come across, but rather, happiness is uncovered through a positive mindset and an optimistic outlook on life. People who take the time to appreciate the little things in life and view
The everlasting question of "What is Happiness?" has been inquired since the creation of men. Unfortunately, the only agreed answer that humanity came up with is that all the creatures seek happiness, but no one has the concrete directions for achieving it. Our libraries are overwhelmed with books about happiness, but no dictionary definition explains which path men must take to be happy. No mathematician gave us the axiom which we could use to solve the problem of living in bliss. No scientist brought up the formula of fusing certain ingredients to produce the "drink of happiness". Still almost all the people consider that their ultimate purport in
Everyone defines happiness differently, but everyone needs happiness. The book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse talks about how Siddhartha finds happiness through many ways. He leaves home and his friend, Govinda, to find enlightenment. He starves himself, he learns love, he even thinks of suicide… Fortunately, he meets a ferryman, who becomes his best friend, also his “teacher”, and helps him find the ultimate way to achieve enlightenment. Siddhartha abandons his relationships, money, and education which bring him happiness, and in the twenty first century, these still bring happiness as the essential steps to take.
Throughout history humankind has been trying to define happiness. What is it exactly and how do we obtain it? We always think that happiness is a place to be or a destination and technically, that is the main premise or goal of our lives; to obtain happiness. So our whole lives go by from the minute were born to the last breath we take in a quest to work hard in order to reach that destination. Naturally, many philosophical writers have jumped on the bandwagon and put in their two cents of their views on the matter of happiness. Alexander Pope talks about the relationship and purpose man has to the universe in An Essay on Man, Voltaire wrote about living in blind optimism with a false notion of happiness in Candide, and Samuel
Happiness is something that many have debated and argued on for years. From the way happiness can be found, to the quickness that it can be lost. Happiness though does not have to come from the things around us, it can come from within our very being. It can be found in the interactions we have with others. And even the smallest, most insignificant of experiences can bring someone a happiness that could mean the world to them. And although the sayings that many see and have been spread around typically have to do with finding inner peace or searching within yourself, it does not mean that there this is the only way to find peace from within. And above all else, I believe that happiness can be found even in the most unlikely of places. This is because of the fact that happiness, though generally talked about, does not have a uniformed meaning and is something completely different for each person.
Happiness can come in a wide variety of things. Different things make different people happy. Seeing a cute dog can make me happy for a moment. Do we long to be happy one day at a time or are we longing to know we will never be sad? Assume every person on the planet has had their happy moments, there is always a deterrent. Always the next moment that can be taken in any direction and if you have experienced emotions then it is known. People may long to be happy but. I think no one can ever be one hundred percent happy for their whole life, but I think people can be content. There will always be moments that are not happy moments but there will always be another moment that can bring joy. I believe you can be happy with your life, even with those moments of other emotion. One of the main things that I want in life is happiness. What can make me happy are many different things. I long for happiness, and in that longing many things that have the
People travel through life with what seems like a single goal: to be happy. This may seem like a selfish way to live, however this lone objective is the motivation behind nearly all actions. Even seemingly selfless deeds make people feel better about themselves. That warm feeling experienced while doing charitable acts can be described as happiness. But what is authentic happiness? There is an endless possibility of answers to this question, and man seems to be always searching for the solution. Although one may reach his or her goals, there is always still something one strives for in order to be happy. In the book Stumbling on Happiness, Harvard psychologist Daniel Gilbert takes the reader through
Happiness, an elusive eight letter word with a mighty punch! Many have sought to define happiness, but found it a difficult task to do. While reading an article published in the New Yorker by Will Sorr on July 07, 2017 titled “A Better Kind of Happiness”, I was informed that happiness is more than just a word, happiness is essential to the well-being of human health. Dating back nearly two and half million years ago an ancient Greek Philosopher and scientist, Aristotle, proposed the idea of eudaemonic happiness. He stated that “happiness was not merely a feeling, or a golden promise, but a
Knowing they're happy for whatever reason is where i find my happiness. The feeling of happiness starts off with just a simple look at something or even someone you love. Having the feeling of happiness in your heart that slowly creeps up until you're smiling for what seems like ages. True happiness doesn't last for seconds or even minutes, it feels as though it lasts a life time.
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There is not one kid who does not get excited over a dollar to spend at the candy shop. What about the feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn a bad day to a good one. Individuals will compromise to attain their happiness. You can not get what you want without giving something first.
Happiness is not a strange term to us. We usually use that word to express our feelings in every day. Additionally, more than a word, “happiness” is what we really need and always seek in life. However, finding and understanding deeply its meaning is not easy. The online dictionary, “vocabulary.com” defines, “Happiness is a sense of well-being, joy, or contentment. When people are successful, or safe, or lucky, they feel happiness.” Thus, we always wonder if we are happy or how could we be happier in our life. Happiness, therefore, becomes a goal for everybody.
Happiness is fleeting. Or rather the instant gratification of achieving what we desire is a fleeting feeling as it creates only a temporary absence of unease. According to Buddha, happiness is simply the absence of dukkha. He believes that we must detach ourselves from the desires that we “believe” make us happy because desire is the root of all unhappiness and letting go of those desires will help us discover lasting happiness. The method to help us acquire this happiness includes the Four Noble Truths. The first three are diagnosis that we need to understand about life before reaching the fourth step about the “Middle Path” lived out according to the Eight-Fold Path.
Happiness will never be defined; although dispiriting, it’s important that happiness not be a central idea. Happiness does not have one definition because everyone has their own definition. The path to happiness is similar to a fingerprint, so we can’t create on definition. Everyone has distinct aspirations in life, and this creates a one-in-a-million chance that people will share the same path to happiness. Despite that, I have grouped eight generalized conclusions to happiness. These conclusions are generalized because my path to happiness will never be the same as the next person. The first conclusion I have found for happiness is wealth and fame. People tend to see these direct paths to happiness; however, they are used to get things that will bring people happiness. After this, there is also religion and philosophy. Religious people are often happier than secular people. A third conclusion is that understanding that suffering and death is inevitable. Death is bliss, and while people live suffering is the way to measure how happiness. Another conclusion is understanding our personality. The world is almost a 50-50 split of introverts and extroverts, and oftentimes introverts don’t know how to be content with themselves. Understanding how people’s personalities tie into their lives can bring happiness. The fifth conclusion is people gain happiness through contentment and meaning in life. People want to be included and have a meaning in their life. The sixth conclusion is
The journey to find true happiness is a long and confusing one. Many people have sought the answer to the question of what is true happiness, but have found a different answer every time. The idea of happiness is what is so addicting to the human race, even if they have no idea how to get it or where to find it. Happiness becomes something that seems almost impossible to get as we live, because as we search for it we try to find it in the things other people tell us it is. What this does is begins to warp what we know true happiness is; However, the moments in life when we are at our lowest and desperate we begin to try anything to achieve happiness. Happiness is not something that can be found by hunting it down like some animal.
Happiness is something that we strive for in our lives and expect to have in our futures. I don’t know a person out there that would openly choose to be unhappy for their entire lives. We all know we want to be happy and that we want it in our future, but we have never really opened up to the idea of specifically how we were going to be happy. Is there a structural way to find happiness or does happiness find you? Keeping in mind that everyone is different and we all live different lives it’s impossible to create one direct way of finding happiness. Where one way of finding happiness can work for me it won’t work for you. While finding happiness is different for everyone there are similarities in the search for happiness. We find ourselves
