“Courage is the discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose”- Tom Krause. Courage is something that we all need in our lives. Maya Runyan is blind but she doesn’t let that stop her, she has won 4 gold medals in the paralympics for women's running. Maya is a huge act of courage. There has been many debates saying that you can’t have courage without fear and being overly courageous leads to unnecessary risks, which are all very true. Sometimes it just comes down to being able to control fear and not let it take over. The real answer is that we need both in our everyday lives to balance each other.

You can’t have courage without fear. Think of it as if the world was peaceful, we wouldn’t need courage because there would be no fear involved. Fear is also set up for courage, like if there was a house on fire, our minds would be set on some way of helping and that leads to courageous actions. There is other cases where fear is common but no courage. If I had a fear of heights but was not willing to even try getting over it by going up high, is a situation where no courage was involved. …show more content…

Back to the burning house story, if an everyday citizen comes to the rescue and doesn’t have any background information on how to be safe in that life situation, will likely backfire. That's when our over confident selves kick in and say that you are capable of anything. Sometimes we can be overly confident in what we say not just what we do. Talking yourself up about things that aren’t true just to make yourself look better, is also apart of being overly confident. Often times overly confident people can end up knowing the least and by doing and saying unrealistic things can not only make yourself look better but it can make yourself feel better and more
