By subscribing to AT&T's Gigapower internet service and taking them up on their discounted Premier Offer, users are opting into take part of AT&T Internet Preferences. From the FAQ, it states that "your Internet traffic is routed to AT&T Internet Preferences web browsing and analytics platform" which strongly implies that AT&T is applying deep packet inspection methods to offer targeted advertising.

Deep Packet Inspection
Deep packet inspection, as opposed to shallow packet inspection, is the practice of analyzing the contents of internet packets all the way to the application layer, In the context of AT&T's Internet Preferences, AT&T may be applying deep packet inspection to take a look into non-encrypted HTTP traffic to gather information about users. The information, in this context, would then be used for targeted advertising purposes. DPI has been the center of many privacy and net neutrality discussions because of the possible privacy and net neutrality violations the practice could afford. DPI could be applied by government agencies to monitor traffic or censor traffic, ISPs could use DPI to shape traffic (ie slow down a content provider until the user or provider pays more).

As searches through Google are now through HTTPS [6], the first proposed example that AT&T provides of searching for concert tickets and receiving targeted ads for nearby restaurants would not be directly possible. (However if the user followed a link from Google to an unencrypted website for concert tickets, this targeted ad would still be
In this experiment, the solid copper metal was weighed to get the initial mass to later compare the mass to the copper after all the reactions. The copper was put into a 250 ml beaker under the fume hood in order to measure excess amounts of 15.8 M nitric acid, HNO3 because the copper has to be the limiting reactant in order to change the state of matter of the copper. It needs to be aqueous instead of a solid. (Cu(s) + 4 HNO3 (aq) -> Cu(NO3)2 (aq) + 2 NO2 (g) + 2 H2O (aq)). After the reactants have reacted, 25 mL of water was added to the beaker to dilute the dangerous acid in the beaker for safety. Then 4 squirts of potassium hydroxide, KOH, was added to react with what’s now in the beaker, Cu(NO3), and this caused another reaction to happen (Cu(NO3)2 (aq) + 2 KOH (aq) -> Cu(OH)2 (s) + 2 KOH3 (aq)). Now the
The Home Depot knows that they must stay on top of technology and management must be able to organize this function in a way that surpasses the competition, pleases the customers, and keep the employees satisfied.
The business environment of an organization reveals much about its competitiveness and the possible influences on the success of its strategies. The focus of this paper will be an environmental scan of the internal and external environments of two real-world firms, their competitive advantages and company strategies for creating value and sustaining competitiveness, measurement guidelines for verifying strategic effectiveness and their evaluation.
Scott Cleland from Net Competition said that net neutrality legislations “mean less privacy for all Americans, as Net neutrality would require more government monitoring and surveillance of Internet traffic” (qtd. from “Net Neutrality”). But what is he talking about anyway? Net neutrality, or the separation between internet service providers (ISP’s) and the content being retrieved through their networks, is an extremely hot topic nowadays. The ideals of net neutrality can be compared to the way you would use electricity in your home. You do not pay your power company a “toaster fee” just so you can plug in your toaster, or a “light bulb fee” just so you can turn on your lights (Gordon; Ammori). Similarly, net neutrality states that ISP’s
In May 2016 Verizon released a new commercial for a prepaid plan to compete with the cell phone providers such as AT&T, Sprint, and others. The 2016 Verizon commercial was titled “Verizon: A Better Prepaid”. Its purpose was to let the audience believe that Verizon’s product was the best on the market for the prepaid plans that are available. However, this is a common claim among companies regardless of what the product they are selling is. Therefore, Verizon needed to create a commercial that was both memorable and affective, and they did just that with their latest ad. With the ever-growing competition in today’s economy, instead of bringing something fresh to the table, Verizon’s marketing crew boldly brought back some old, and somewhat forgotten popular tunes that appeal to the 80’s and 90’s kids. This technique was useful in drawing in a specific audience and initiating a positive feeling of nostalgia in them, which in return gave Verizon’s ad a boost in the eyes of its viewers. It is small things like this that marketing teams strive to put into in their work. Along with their superior use of marketing techniques, Verizon offers a wide variety of information about their product. According to Verizon’s official website, their new prepaid plan offers 4G LTE coverage. However, their information regarding this product varies depending on where you receive your information. Nevertheless, Verizon created a successful advertisement to make revenue for their company, and
I believe my team’s modification would be best for a child with cerebral palsy. The other team's design ideas were great but they all added extra parts to the toy which I feel complicated the process of assembling the toy. Adding velcro or magnets meant the child had to wear a glove of some sort which is not beneficial because the purpose of the toy was to help the child learn how to grasp. Velcro involves too much from strapping the toy puzzle piece and then having to deal with unstrapping the piece of the glove when you are trying to remove the wrong piece is too much. Adding knobs to the toy is beneficial but not as much as adding texture to the toy. The child might start focusing on how to grasp the knob instead of focusing on how to put
Privacy in this era is threatened by the growth in technology with capacity that is enhanced for surveillance, storage, communication as well as computation. Moreover, the increased value of this information in decision making is one of the insidious threats. For this reason, information and its privacy are actually threatened and less privacy is assured.
“At the end of the day, the purpose of advertising is to sell. Marketers who ignore this fundamental usually get into trouble.” (Chimoff, 2014) Verizon has been a strong competitor in the electronic communication arena for years. Verizon totes that consumers are looking to get the latest devices, but these devices are only as good as the network they are on. They boast to be the network with the most coverage availability and fastest internet speeds. Fiber-optic technology provides the most efficient and reliable way to transmit data to your home. As the largest national provider to offer 100% fiber optics straight to the home, Verizon’s FiOS delivers a faster entertainment and communication experience simply by transmitting data as pulses of light through hair-thin bundles of glass. While other cable companies connect to homes using copper, FiOS stands alone using the latest technology that can support future innovations in communication and
The telecommunications industry is a multi-billion dollar industry worldwide. The key success factors in this industry are hard to pin point, because they vary from having the right amount of money to having the right amount of customers. This industry is a very expensive industry to do research and development in. Besides the money required for R&D the companies in this business have to spend tremendous amount of capital on advertising and consumer awareness. The services provided by the different competitors in this industry are essentially the same but with very different reputations. AOL spends millions of dollars every year to send free trial C.D., in order to gain customer awareness. Which in turn shows the results as being very successful, making AOL the largest internet-service provider in the United States.
As shown above, internet privacy and security is an expanding crisis in the United States. While this issue is prominent, stating the problem is pointless without suggesting solutions.
Could the world in Nineteen Eighty-four (1948) and Animal Farm (1945) ever really exist? Orwell believes it could. In Animal Farm, the pigs gradually twist and distort rhetoric of socialist revolution to justify their behavior and to keep the other animals in the dark. The animals embrace Major’s ideal of socialism, but after Major dies, the pigs began to altering his words. At end of the work, Squealer’s has repeatedly reconfigured the meaning and words of the Seven Commandments in order to decriminalize the pigs’ treacheries. The seven commandments have been brought down to one “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” Orwell’s use of this abuse of language remains one of the most compelling and enduring features of Animal Farm, and parallels a major theme of Nineteen Eighty-four, propaganda. “Big Brother is Watching You.” This is used by the Party and in the media also. These words are depicted beneath the picture, on posters that are hung about Oceania. This slogan is meant to give citizens a feeling of protection, and to prevent them from breaking any of the laws of the society. A feeling of safety, the Party uses this to make them think that within this government, nothing can go wrong. In George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-four and Animal Farm language is the greatest tool of oppression. Orwell hopes that readers will leave Nineteen Eighty-four accepting the possibility that this government could existed and has indeed existed enough to
I have not always known that I wanted to become a social worker. As a little girl I was never the child who could answer the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I did not want to be a doctor, a lawyer, or a movie star; I only knew that I wanted to help people around the world. This desire to help others continued through middle school and high school, but through my babysitting I realized that I wanted to specifically help children. I contemplated becoming a teacher, a guidance counselor or any other profession that worked closely with children, but none of those professions seemed like a good match.

This market allows organization a free long term ability to adjust their good services and prices with the changes in the market conditions. Thus AT&T should take advantage of the freedom in this market structure and ensure that their supply and prices are correlated to their demands.
Detection engines capable of inspecting packet payloads for application-layer network information are urgently required. The most important technology for fast payload inspection is an efficient multipattern matching algorithm, which performs exact string matching between packets and a large set of predefined patterns. This paper proposes a novel Enhanced Hierarchical Multipattern Matching Algorithm (EHMA) for packet inspection. Based on the occurrence frequency of grams, a small set of the most frequent grams is discovered and used in the EHMA. EHMA is a two-tier and cluster-wise matching algorithm, which significantly reduces the amount of external memory accesses and the capacity of memory. Using a skippable scan strategy, EHMA speeds up the scanning process. Furthermore, independent of parallel and special functions, EHMA is very simple and therefore practical for both software and hardware implementations. Simulation results reveal that EHMA significantly improves the matching performance. The speed of EHMA is about 0.89-1,161 times faster than that of current matching algorithms. Even under real-life intense attack, EHMA still performs well.
