The death penalty has both supporters and non-supporters. The following essay will not solve the issue; I will only try to persuade the reader to understand my point of view. The death penalty is justified in certain cases such as Mcveigh Vs State of Indiana; however it is unjustified in other cases, including Bloodsworth Vs State of Maryland. The death penalty is a must, especially in today’s society. With the increase in vicious crimes today, the government must act just as harsh with our justice system to try and prevent these types of crimes. Non-supporters argue that the death penalty is inhumane and should be considered murder. People of this malicious caliber must be dealt with in the same way, an eye for an eye. The Bible also states that there should be retribution for a crime. The Bible says “whosoever sheds man’s blood, by man shall be shed.” This statement has been interpreted as a divine justification for putting a murderer to death.
A very fine example of the death penalty doing something for the general welfare of the American people is the death sentence of Timothy McVeigh, the brains behind the Oklahoma City bombing. “On April 19, 1995, 168 people, including many young children in the day care center, died in the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK.” Many people believed that McVeigh should fry in the chair, and it looks like it will happen. It shows that capital punishment does some good for the country to keep the citizens safe from violent offenders such as convicted murderers and rapists. Capital punishment is a logical form of justice for the United States, even though many people are against it.
For the people against the death penalty, they need to realize that capital punishment is for the general welfare of the people because the death penalty is the most logical way to punish criminals of vicious crimes. Everyone in the world needs to follows certain laws, and if they are broken, the accused has to pay to price for his or her crime. The sentences might be anywhere from ten to twenty years in prison, but some crimes force the defendant to die for their crime or crimes. Capital punishment is just, and it should stay
Now many would think what type of pros can you receive the death penalty? One pro would be retribution this is just to make sure that the person takes full reasonability of the crime they committed and know that they are being punished for it. The next one would be deterrence which will help them understand that they should engage in no form of a crime because of the consequences behind it, however, I don’t believe that it actually works all the time because many individuals learn the consequences of a crime in elementary school from DARE. Less damage is adopted to prevent more now this can mean different levels to many. Well, a criminal is like the flu, they are an airborne virus to society. They affect everyone’s life rather they realize it or not. The death penalty is actually cheaper than what people think. Society pays less for individual who are sentenced death than those who are not. The death penalty eliminates all the negative on society if a person kills someone we never have to worry about that person again because they will be put to death and never have a chance to hurt society
There are many reasons to both support and oppose the death penalty. Many people can feel very strongly about whether or not they approve of this method of punishment. I feel that the death penalty is wrong, and I believe that there is much support to back this up. I believe that the death penalty is wrong because it is not an effective deterrent, racially and economically bias, unreliable, expensive, and morally wrong of society.
Capital punishment can be a tough topic to approach because people tend to have many different opinions on it. The death penalty is an advantage to society; it deters potential criminals as well as serves retribution to criminals. There is a huge difference in expenses of a lethal injection and life in prison. The death penalty can be an extremely beneficial tool in sentencing criminals that have committed some of the worst crimes known to
The Death Penalty has aided or the U.S. in times where large crimes have been committed and the perpetrator has been convicted for their crimes. When the prisoner is taken into prison, they take up more space in another prison where it already is overcrowded. Secondly, Tax money that is taken away from law abiding citizens is given to prisons to care for them. Thirdly, for some of the most gruesome, cold-blooded, killers the death penalty is the only reasonable punishment for him/her to face. Therefore the Death Penalty has helped many people in many ways. Yes, there are some naysayers that disagree with this argument that would like to share their opinion. Surely this can help them understand that the death penalty helps more than it hurts.
It is more reasonable to utilize the death penalty than to abolish it. The death penalty should not be abolished because (1) it deters people from committing murder and (2) because the death penalty gives peace of mind to the victims and their families and puts an end to the crime.
While criminals must be punished for their criminal actions, “legalized murder”, as author Coretta Scott King put it, is immoral. The death penalty is legalizing the very thing that many on death row are charged for, murder. There is a multitude of lawful alternatives, to the death penalty, of reestablishing a better reputation for the criminals. The Constitution has no true right to allow such a felonious form of rehabilitation.
The death penalty has a lot of pros and cons. However I have found that there is a lot more issues with it. The death penalty is a controversial topic. Some people see it as useful and some people don't. Some Americans think that an inmate put on death row is just getting the easy way out of prison and they would rather have them in prison for life. There have been cases where the people think that the rulings have been racially biased and that people who are of color don't get fair judgments. Also people that are intellectually disabled have gotten unfair rulings as well.
The death penalty has been around legally in the United States since the early 1970s. It has been used to execute those who have committed terrible crimes like murder or terrorism. Many people feel that this is a good way of bringing the families of the victims closure and making our streets safer to live on. While this may be true, it is hard to ignore the fact that many innocent people have been killed because of wrongful convictions. Through DNA testing and other evidence, the courts are finding people who have been convicted for a crime are actually innocent. The death penalty has killed over thousands of people who have committed terrible heinous crimes. It has gotten these people out of our streets and into prisons or even out of this world for good. Many people in America find this to be very pleasing and beneficial to the states and country because it is one less criminal we will have to worry about. Even though the death penalty takes many dangerous people out of our streets, it should be abolished because of the number of innocent people that have been on Death Row or are still on it.
In society today there are murders committed everyday. Everyday the people who commit these crimes are found guilty in a court of law and sentenced in prison. Some even get chances for parole. What the courts should do is take every murderer, give every one of them the death penalty, and follow through with it. The death penalty should be legal in all 50 states and carried through when given out as a sentence. Gary Gilmore faced a firing squad at the Utah State Prison on January 17, 1977. There have been 55 murders in that state during 1976. During 1977, in wake of the Gilmore execution, there were 44 murders: a 20 percent decrease. As you can see, the execution had some effect on the murder rate in Utah (Solotaroff 2001).
Death Penalty laws were first established back in the Eighteenth Century B.C. in the Code of King Hammurabi of Babylon, which codified the death penalty. In modern times when Capital Punishment reached America it was influenced by Britain more than by any other country. Death Penalty is not the best way to punish criminals for their actions because it is expensive for people who haven't committed any crimes Taxpayers. The Death Penalty also shouldn't be allowed since it fails to recognize the actual crime. Death Row does not deliver justice and it’s less painful than what they really deserve for their crimes, this process should be abolished in all states since is morally wrong.
The death penalty or capital punishment is an issue that has sparked controversy and anxiety in today’s society. Capital punishment refers to “a sentence of death by execution”, for the crimes committed. In order to receive the death penalty an individual needs to commit certain types of crimes known as “capital crimes” or “capital offences”. Capital crimes include treason, perjury, kidnapping, rape, terrorism and murder. Today, executions are carried out by either a lethal injection or electrocution. Countries like the United States can allow the convict to have a degree of “amnesty” by letting the convict choose other methods such as a gas chamber, hanging or even a firing squad. Although a vast majority are against the death penalty .
Some people appose the death penalty because they believe it cost more to kill the person than to keep them in prison for life. If you put any thought into this at all, you will see that it is entirely wrong. If you put someone in jail for life, you have to feed them every single day, keep them sheltered, and take up the space in the jails. If you put someone to death, you don't have to worry about any of that. The cost of executions is far less than life in jail. Death penalty cases have alot of appeals, that cost alot of money, but life without parole cases have just about the same amount of appeals and cost just the same. When it comes down to it, putting the murderers in our country to death saves money, time, and space in our jails.
As in any other debate this is the other side of the coin, the supporters those who are in favor of capital punishment. They believe that the death penalty is absolutely necessary because it is a form of prevent crime. Also, they said that the death penalty honors human being self-esteem by treating the criminal as a free moral character in the life story able to control his own destiny for good or for bad.
Capital punishment is the lawful infliction of the death penalty, and it has been utilized to punish a variety of crimes over the years. The penalty of death is reserved for the most serious and heinous crimes. But some Americans would rather put people in prison for life instead, but how is that fair to the criminals who did not commit such a horrible crime? Even if the crime committed is much less than that of murders and rapist, they still get the same punishment. Criminals convicted of murder or rape should be executed because they are dangerous to the world and the human race. The world is a safer place without certain kinds of criminals in it. The death penalty should continue to be used, and used more often, because of its deterrent value, and for its role as a plea bargaining tactic. As well as in other cases, life sentences simply do not supply a harsh enough punishment for the act committed, and people affected by such terrible acts of evil should not have to think that the criminal is getting off easy with an all expenses paid for life sentence.
The death penalty is a very controversial topic across America, and even the world. Undeniably, with every topic there will often be more than just one argument to a particular subject. In the case of capital punishment, the two main sides are simply for capital punishment, and against capital punishment. For the portion
