Every culture was remarkable but the most remarkable one was The Maya. The Maya were inventors. The lived in Mesoamerica which includes, southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. The Maya lived isolated from the rest of the world. Even though they were isolated they had many remarkable achievements. The most remarkable achievement of the Maya was the Number System. Their number system affects how we look at numbers today. It also helped others learn better. Other of their achievements included Trade Network, Building Cities, and Calendar. These can based off of scale, genius, human effort, and significance. All are remarkable but the most important one was the Number System. The Trade Network really impacted the Mayans. They had a huge population. Ancient Copán had an estimated population of 26,000 The Tikal had a population of 70,000 (Doc B). The Maya were able to organize the labor of masons, plasterers, and supervising architects (Doc B). The government had the power to organize and conduct the construction (Doc B). Because of this, the Mayas had a better place to live. Just like us, the Mayans had a Number System. The Mayans number system was based on 20 (Doc C). They used different symbols for different numbers. It is very important to have a symbol for zero because it is the place value (Doc C). Making a number system was a genius idea because it really helped out people in the past. The number system also helped how the calendars would be. The Mayans last achievement, was the Calendars. The three calendars were the Tzolkin, Long Count, and Haab (Doc D). The Tzolkin was used to keep track of religious days. The Long Count was used to track days. The Haab was useful for predicting the beginning of rainy seasons because it spanned the entire
