Every culture was remarkable but the most remarkable one was The Maya. The Maya were inventors. The lived in Mesoamerica which includes, southern Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. The Maya lived isolated from the rest of the world. Even though they were isolated they had many remarkable achievements. The most remarkable achievement of the Maya was the Number System. Their number system affects how we look at numbers today. It also helped others learn better. Other of their achievements included Trade Network, Building Cities, and Calendar. These can based off of scale, genius, human effort, and significance. All are remarkable but the most important one was the Number System. The Trade Network really impacted the Mayans. The Mayans traded items like cotton, salt and honey from Mayapan. They also traded Jade and Animal skin (Doc A). By the trade network, the Mayans …show more content…
They had a huge population. Ancient Copán had an estimated population of 26,000 The Tikal had a population of 70,000 (Doc B). The Maya were able to organize the labor of masons, plasterers, and supervising architects (Doc B). The government had the power to organize and conduct the construction (Doc B). Because of this, the Mayas had a better place to live. Just like us, the Mayans had a Number System. The Mayans number system was based on 20 (Doc C). They used different symbols for different numbers. It is very important to have a symbol for zero because it is the place value (Doc C). Making a number system was a genius idea because it really helped out people in the past. The number system also helped how the calendars would be. The Mayans last achievement, was the Calendars. The three calendars were the Tzolkin, Long Count, and Haab (Doc D). The Tzolkin was used to keep track of religious days. The Long Count was used to track days. The Haab was useful for predicting the beginning of rainy seasons because it spanned the entire
For over 2,000 years, the Mayan civilization was a very developed and complex culture with many major advancements that caused its nation to thrive in then Mesoamerica. The Mayan society had an extremely sophisticated method of constructing massive buildings without the use of beasts of burden. They also invented their own Number system, basing it off of the number twenty, unlike our own number system. Another one of their achievements was their calendars, which predicted religious events and even the beginning of a rainy season. The Mayan society built their powerful civilization using these three major accomplishments. In these next few paragraphs, I will provide more detailed explanations to why I believe these three Mayan standards
The greatest of the achievements that the Mayans had came mostly from hard work and their genius ways of doing complex things and making them look easy. Documents A, D, And C talked about how the Mayans Used their minds to the best of their ability. For example, the Mayans built trade routes, created a calendar to tell the time of the month/seasons, and lastly, they created symbols for numbers to do math easier and more efficient.
* The Mayas created a written language, a numerical system, an accurate calendar, and an advanced agricultural
What happened to the Mayan civilization before it mysteriously collapsed is still a mystery, but heart-stopping achievements were made. Throughout 3000 years the Native tribe of the Maya inhabited México, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras until the Spanish arrived. They were so secluded from anyone else, that they could not learn information from other tribes and they came up with all ideas themselves.(BGE) Trade routes, the creation of beautiful cities, establishing the number system and developing three calendars we all breathtaking achievements accomplished by the Mayan culture. Using scale, effort, genius, and significance four achievements will be argued about which was the most remarkable. Obviously the development
First of, an achievement of the Mayan society was their development of the ritual and civil calendar. They developed the calendar further than any other New World people. In Document D it states that the sacred and civil calendars (based off of the solar year)
The Mayan, Aztec, and Inca civilizations brought major accomplishments to the world today. These accomplishments established them as advanced societies during their time without the influence of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Some of these accomplishments ranged from agriculture to architecture and on to writing and trade. Such as, the Mayans with their agriculture system of chinampas and there monumental temple/pyramids, the Aztecs with their trading in the city of Tenochtitlan, and the Incas with their road and bridge system connecting the whole empire.
I believe the most remarkable achievement was how the Mayan were able to create and build their cities. The Maya lived in mesoamerica, part of Central America including central Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. The Mayan had over 2,500 Maya locations according to Document B in the packet The Maya: What Was Their Most Remarkable Achievement. How is it possible that the Mayan were able to make over 2,500 cities? They had populations in tens of thousands also according to Document B in the packet The Maya: What Was Their Most Remarkable Achievement. One of the largest Mayan cities had a population of 70,000.
The breathtaking splendor of ornate cites, the beautifully constructed grand temples, and the ingeniously developed and advanced caledretics, mathematics, and astronomy easily mark one of the most interesting and prosperous periods in Latin American history. Over period spanning approximately six centuries, the Maya of Central America reached artistic and intellectual heights that no other group in the New World had seen
In some ways the Mayan people were very advanced. In other ways they seemed to be very primitive. What was their most remarkable achievement? In my point of view there remarkable achievement was the Mayan calendar because of my 3 reasons and I would also include ethos, pathos, and logos and an counter argue. First, there was two main calendars which had an impact in the Mayans world. There was a ritual calendar and a solar calendar which the solar calendar we use today and in fact we still use those guidelines. Second , they were advanced when the Maya priests-astronomers took the time to put in predictions and to develop their systems. Saying, “ So great was their knowledge that they could predict eclipses of the moon. ” This was a
The most remarkable achievement of the Maya is their number system. However from all of their achievements I feel the less but still important ones was the cities and buildings they built, their trade network, and their calendar.
The Maya were known for their agriculture, trade, science and religion. They had a complex writing system and developed a calendar from observing the earths movements around the sun. One can’t say that just one
The Mayans were also were technologically advanced. They used their own math system. One dot stood for one, a bar symbolized five, and a shell figure was zero. The numbers were expressed vertically with the highest on top. The also created a very precise calendars. Two different calendars were calculated 260-day and a 365-day. They were able to calculate the dates because at noon time there was no shadow. This was important for them to use in predicting eclipses, scheduling religious ceremonies, and when to plant and harvest.
In hieroglyphic writing, astronomy, and mathematics, the Mayan Indians were far ahead of any other people in the New World.(Foley 20) The Mayan invented a solar “civil” calendar including three hundred sixty- five days.(Ivanoff 86) The accuracy of the Mayan calculations is all the more extraordinary in view of the fact that they had no
The Mayans created many things to affect the world. They created a 365 day calendar. They also made great strides in mathematics and astronomy. They used the number zero, which was very advanced for their time period. The astronomers were able to tell what day of the week a date would fall on in future years (Encarta). And they were able to calculate the length of years of other planets with remarkable precision given the instruments they had to work with (Mexico).
The Mayans most remarkable feats was the creation of their Calendar. The Mayan calendar was considered to be one of the most accurate records of time created by an early civilization. This
