The Industrial Workers of the World or called the Wobblies is a great example of protesters. But they did not take the violent route like many others. The IWW did it in a peaceful manner by singing songs to get their point across. IWW goal was to get all of the workers in one big union and to sing. “The labor culture of the IWW was developed through its creation and utilization of songs, poetry, cartoons, jargon, jokes, posters, pamphlets, and newspapers all of which promoted the ideology for the ONE BIG UNION” (Olwig, 2013). The IWW was most known for their materials in the “Little Red songbook” the sold for 10 cents. The protesters would sing the songs in the streets and halls, sometimes even jails when they got arrested. During the civil rights movement, people were fighting for their dreams, for their goals, and for their future. Imagine if you were put in a situation like that; what would you do? These people were not looking to be feared, but to be looked at as equals. They protested peacefully, marched, and used the legal system. They did this all for equality.

There were the peaceful riot advocates and the black power militia supporters. Either way, the civil rights activists gained ground by exploiting several different methods and reaching different crowds. There were the legal gurus at the NAACP that challenged a lot of racist and unethical laws and bills. There were the mostly peaceful but often violent protests like the March on Washington or the Selma to Montgomery March.

The March on Washington is said to be the highlight of the civil rights movement.  The march was not planned by one group, many civil rights activist groups gathered to plan this march.  The agreed to all meet at the Washington Monument and march to the Lincoln Memorial.  Almost 250,000 people showed up for the march, and this was the same day Dr. King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” speech.  Also  on this day John Lewis challenged President Kennedy, but not in protest or violence,  according to the document he said  "We will not stop. If we do not get meaningful legislation out of this Congress, the time will come when we will not confine our marching to Washington…. Direct action was the most effective strategy in gaining civil rights during this period because it confronted the problems directly. In Document #4 it claims “Non violent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue.” This forces the community to do something about the injustice the African Americans have been facing due to the uncomfortable situation they were put in. The African Americans were also strategic while using direct action which forced the community to be equal in the rules such as in court, housing, etc. Additionally, he also stated in Document #4

The March on Washington was definitely a success because many people protested and gained victory so they gained their rights, especially African Americans.

The background of the race in america. The whites in america thought that people with different skin color and beliefs didn’t belong. Because of this the Jim Crow laws became a thing which hurt many african americans, slavery, segregation, and the KKK formed. Speeches is the interpretation of or the ability to express thoughts and feelings by acruiculate sounds. Marches is the meaning to walk or proceed quickly and with determination. Then background and race in the United States was a big deal, it still is relevant today but not as much. Black’s got treated much worse than whites, they had their own schools, drinking fountains, bathrooms,etc. Meanwhile black public schools got the tiniest bit of money, white schools had much more of it and there schools were in very good condition unlike black schools. If you were black you could of gone to jail for touching a white and you possibly could get sent away your entire life. Supposing that you were not white, not many people would want you around them nor their family. You had more privileges being white than any other race at the time. Activists used, during the Civil Rights movement, multiple strategies that resulted in both successes and failures.

Yes it was a success. It was only the beginning. It definitely didn’t end de facto discrimination because we still see it today. It was a start to ending discrimination, and was a success because we are no longer segregated. A lot of people have acceptance for others who do not look like they do, or believe what they believe. Ending discrimination definitely can not happen overnight. It is going to be a long slow process. And there will be times where a nonviolent approach is better than a violent one, and vice versa. The most important thing is the drive that African Americans have to fight for their rights, as long as they have that drive, they should never have a reason to stop fighting. The civil rights movement happened just about 50 years ago, which in history was not a long time ago. It's going to take time for African Americans to gain complete equality. There will be gains for them and set backs. The civil rights era was the start to their fight, and a big influence on the Black Lives Matter movement, and both will influence the many more movements to come. Although there was significant improvement in the lives of black people through the Success of the civil rights movement by the late 1960s, there were also some failures and aspects that the civil rights movement had not achieved. These failures were social, economical, political and cultural. These failures included the fact that some laws were not upheld. Black people saw this as an injustice and inconvenience and as a failure economically.

The Black Civil Rights movement started in 1954, African Americans believed that they should be treated the same as everyone else and that there shouldn't be inappropriate segregation laws dividing people by color. African Americans were considered “separate but equal” but the treatment they received did not make them feel equal. There were many successes and failures during the Black Civil Rights movement. Desegregation was a huge controversial topic and really kicked off the Civil Rights movement. The youth groups of tis generation played a critical role and also helped jump start the Civil Rights movement. A failure would be that African Americans still receive discrimination today, that has never gone away entirely. Although there were other major successes and failures I think that these were some of the most influential, and that they played some of the most important roles.

First of all, It was succesful because African Americans had other ways of transportation besides the bus. Secondly, there is a threat to the city’s government because the bus companies are losing money;due to three fourths of the riders that are black.This was succesful because it made the bus companies lose money. Lastly,It is all over the news and people will eventually start to see it and watch it .Now more and more people heard it and will start to agree with eachother.This is also very succesful because by sharing this news will increase money.As said from Rosa Parks,” You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right” -Rosa

The civil rights movement in the United States was the start of a political and social conflict for African-Americans in the United States to gain their full rights in the country, and to have the same equality as white Americans. The civil rights movement was a challenge to segregation, the laws and ordinances that separated blacks and whites. This movement had the goal to end racial segregation against the black Americans of the United States.
