My favorite part of the story was the race against the steam powered drill. He and the captain both thought that each of their ways to drive steel was the best and most efficient way. But when it all came down to it, John Henry won by him being able to drive in more feet into the mountain. The story itself is like the idealization of how hard work pays off no matter the situation, since he passed away when he put down his hammer and stopped working. Through all of his hard work paid off, he got the name “steel driving man”.

In the 19th century the market revolution, was the byproduct of those striving to acquire the American dream. Advancements in technology prompted better industrial machinery, and factories were no longer
In the late 1700’s and early 1800’s the United States was in a transformation from the Jeffersonian vision of an agricultural nation, into Alexander Hamilton’s vision of an industrial America. The book Sam Patch, the Famous Jumper gives a good idea of what America was like during the Early Republic period. The industrial life would turn America into a country that is dependent on the work of manufactories.
During the late 1700’s, the United States was no longer a possession of Britain, instead it was a market for industrial goods and the world’s major source for tobacco, cotton, and other agricultural products. During the 1800s, our nation experienced a technological revolution. The United States’ population increased immensely due to immigration and to the development of technological advancements. During this time period, our country was transformed into a more industrial nation. Technological advancements occurring during this time, such as the Erie Canal, the expansion of railroads, and the invention of the cotton gin permanently changed American life.
Industrialization changed the lives of the people of this nation. By the late nineteenth century, with advances in technology, communication, and transportation, a new type of industrialization was formed, a global one.
The Second American Industrial Revolution was a time of great social improvements and advances in technology. It was also a time of great turmoil for the workforce and the lower class. Industrialization allowed the growth in gross national product of the United States, which helped improve the economy (doc 1). The period of advancements that dramatically aided in the growth of America occurred between 1780 and 1860. This growth included movement from rural areas to urban areas. In 1870, 70% of the population lived in rural areas, but by 1910, only 54% lived in rural areas (doc 1). The flight from the farmland and the immigration movement overpopulated the cities. It affected both rich and poor, both natives and immigrants. The Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution drastically altered the American society and culture. This era began to develop step-by-step with developing industries, factories and railroads. Being the protagonist of his own story is not an uncommon occurrence. Everyone, in some way, can relate to John Henry. His determination and work ethics are admirable. However, he is a rather static character. He doesn't change much throughout the story and also a somewhat stereotypical character as well. The time frame the story takes place in is still during slavery. Most African Americans were hard workers, and John Henry was no exception. He is also a flat character. We only ever see him as a worker on the rail road, and that is all he is to us.
There is no question that the Industrial Revolution had an enormous impact on American society between 1870 and 1940, but the question is what kind of an impact did it have during this period. The overall effect of the Industrial Revolution turned out to be a positive push towards modernization in America. As Stephen Gardiner, a British architect and writer during the 20th century, said, “The Industrial Revolution was another one of those extraordinary jumps forward in the story of civilization.” While Gardiner hit the nail on the head with his quote, the part of the story that most people tend to forget is just how quickly we Americans, made that extraordinary jump forward. There were Americans, who, at one point in their life were
