In the essay David Zinczenko wrote about how fast food chains are making it easy for people to become obese especially in children. Zinczenko makes some very good points throughout his essay. At the beginning of his paper Zinczenko stated “I tend to sympathize with these portly, fast-food patrons, though. Maybe that’s because I use to be one of them.”
In his essay Zinczenko argues that diabetes in children could be linked to a genetic disorder. Now “type 2 diabetes accounts for 30 percent of childhood cases of diabetes.” Zinczenko also states that there is little nutritional information about the fast food you consume.
An example of this, is a salad which is considered one the healthier items on the menu. Zinczenko broke it down in calories

So if you were to eat this salad in order to stay within the recommended calories it would be really hard to stay within the recommendation.
Now days people eat fast food once, twice, maybe even three times a day. There are several reasons why people eat out more. Zinczenko made one very good point. He stated that it can be hard to find healthy food when there are so many fast food companies and chains all around America. It is also hard to live healthy and eat healthy for kids and teens because the price is significantly more than just grabbing a quick burger.
At the beginning of my response paper I had a hard time understanding how someone could sue a fast food company. Then I began feeling for these children and the situation these fast food companies are placing on them. I understand how hard it is to eat healthy and how difficult it is to lose weight. In this day and age it has really become a two family working home, with both mom and dad working to make ends meet. Because both parents are gone it is easy for kids to just go and eat out. I mean who really wants to stay home and cook especially if there is no one at home to teach you how. I can understand why they want to sue these fast food
This paper examined in detail the reasoning, evidence from a claim that Robert Florczak arguing Why is modern art so bad? Robert florczak is an American artists and illustrator with many years of experience in field of art. The motive of the speech is to convince the art community of the ineffectiveness of modern art. The speaker uses a compare and contrast method during his speech between western and modern art. To show differences between the two, he illustrates his ability to back up his argument with evidence. He uses rhetorical analysis techniques such as, ethos, pathos, and logos to build on various point of views to strength his point. The speaker could achieve the overall purpose of the speech in convincing the art community of the

In David Zinczenko’s article “Don’t Blame the Eater” he focuses on the fast food industry and their role in the increasing health and obesity issues of our nation’s children, as well as these issues potentially becoming a serious problem that we will all have to deal with if we collectively don’t do something about it now. When it comes to the topic of fast food, most of us can agree that it is not the best source of nutrition. It is unhealthy and can be the cause of many serious health issues with our children such as obesity related Type 2 diabetes, stomach ulcers and even heart disease, high cholesterol, sleep apnea or even cancer. We can even agree that fast-food diets are a major contributing factor to
Obesity has become increasingly more prominent in American society. It is also a major health issue affecting many adults and children in the US every year. In his article "Don't Blame the Eater," David Zinczenko sympathizes with children who are suing McDonald’s making them fat. In his own experience as a “latchkey kid”, he knows how easily fast food makes teenagers put on weight with a steady diet of fast food meals. Zinczenko argues that both lack of fast food alternative companies and lack of providing nutrition information contribute to childhood obesity.
* Reducing the calorie / kilojoule (energy) and sugar content of Salads Plus muffin and yoghurt menu items.
Zinczenko’s rhetorical comments on the fast food industry are spaced throughout his piece. Zinczenko also states that alternative options are hard to find when fast food is readily available. “Drive down any thoroughfare in America, and I guarantee you’ll see one of our country’s more than 13,000 McDonald’s restaurants. Now, drive back up the block and try to find someplace to buy a grapefruit” (Zinczenko 463). This strong statement proves Zinczenko’s irritated tone throughout his piece. Zinczenko’s stand that the fast food industry is responsible for obesity.
David Zinczenko was one of the lucky ones. He used to be one of the kids whose only option was fast food, but had the opportunity to turn his life around and join the Navy Reserves. As the type 2 diabetes rate keeps increasing the amount of money spent to help the kids with type 2 diabetes keeps increasing. Kids are getting more and more angry at all these companies claiming that they are the ones responsible for their health problems. Even though in a way these kids are passing the buck, these companies need to realize that they advertise for people to eat their products. David Zinczenko points out that, “Fast-food companies are marketing to children a product with proven health hazards and no warning labels. They would do well to protect
Fast food restaurants are commonly associated with the topic of obesity. It is not uncommon for these restaurants to be blamed for the growing obesity rate in America, but how exactly do they contribute? Simply, obesity occurs when a
In the article,” If You Pitch It, They Will Eat It”, it states that since nineteen eighty the number of obese children has more than doubled to sixteen percent. Many are blaming schools for their lack of consistent physical education programs but in all honesty it is because of the ever growing fast food companies via the “proliferation of electronic media” (Barboza 4). Just about everywhere you go your bound to come across some type of fast food restraunt. From McDonalds to Taco-bell, Quiznos, Wendys, Jack-In-the-box, you name it, they got it! It seems like fast food companies purposely dominate areas so that it would be easier to attract a lot of costumers. Besides the fact that fast food companies are everywhere, they’ve made sure that
A limitation of using USDA nutrient content information in designing nutritional interventions is that this website is only specific about a person’s weight, height, age, calorie history, and physical activity history. If we want to design a nutritional intervention for a malnourished person, or for a diabetic person, we will have to make our own research first,
This assignment helps to know how important checking food label is. While I was looking different kinds of food labels, I realized that my guesses about food nutrition levels in different foods are wrong. I was surprise to see some nutrient levels in different foods. For example, I was not expected ranch salad dressing to have high level of calories. After I saw the calories level it has from food label, I decided not to foolish myself by eating too much ranch dressing with salads and think I am eating vegetable with low calories. On contrary, some of the foods I was expected to have a lot calories does not have at all. Even though the foods look like the same, there is a huge difference between them in the nutrient contents level. The calories
Some may dress it up in fancy formulas and measurements, but it all falls in the realm of getting you to eat less calories.
Many schools around America serve fast food for lunches. After they started to serve fast food, average weight of American teenagers has risen. Fast food is very unhealthy and shouldn’t be served in schools. Just one reason why we shouldn’t serve fast food in schools is because a school in California did a survey in their school. It showed that 71% of California high schools had fast food in their schools. More than half of the 171 districts also reported carrying the brand name fast food (Wong). This shows that just in California there are more schools that serve fast food than schools that don’t. The fast food that they carry is brand name and very unhealthy like all fast food is. Another way to show that fast food can lead to obesity is, many kids in school eat lots of fast food out of school and then added the fast food in school is just making it worse. After
Food is not as simple as it seems. Once Anthelme Brillat-Savarin wrote “Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are”. We, as human been should pay attention to what we eat because it will be reflected in the future. A lot of times we know if someone eats healthy by just seeing them, because physically they do not have a good body, healthy skin, or something like that. As we already said more than 50% of USA’s population eats fast food for many reasons: economy, quick service, etc., but the real problem come when we consider health. If People should care more about what they eat and try to avoid fast food, then they will have less possibility of diseases like high cholesterol, obesity, or cardiovascular issues and heart diseases.
The amount of calories per serving is listed next. If more than one serving of food is eaten, the amount of
