I look up to people who succeed in accomplishing their dreams and who work hard to become better and better at something. I want to be known as being one of those people when I grow up and this person who I am about to talk about is the reason why I do what I love to do. I look up to David Ortiz, a 41-year-old Dominican that was a designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox. He played 20 seasons with the MLB but primarily with the red sox. The inspiration he has given people is unbelievable and he is a very humble person. Through out his career, he experienced many hardships which included accusations of using steroids but he stayed true to himself. He was a big person but yet seemed to be innocent. During his career in the MLB he became a 10x All Star, 3x World series champion, 7x silver slugger, and he made 541 home runs. His career was full of haters and people who judged him for what he would do. He would be criticized every time he would go up to bat. Many people thought that every time he would go up to bat it was just for attention. The kind of attitude he had on the field really made him who he was in the eye of the public. His nick name was “BIG PAPI” because he called everyone who he doesn’t know …show more content…
Each time he would do a homerun he would point his fingers to the sky to dedicate it to his mother that passed away in a car crash in 2002. This act showed that he had a heart and felt the pain of losing a loved one. He also founded the David Ortiz children’s fund in 2007. He helped those that were in need but somehow people still looked him down. Then slowly and slowly his performance was becoming horrible. Soon he fixed his mistakes and made himself better which earned him the spot of “THE GREATEST CLUTCH HITTER IN THE HISTORY OF THE BOSTON RED SOX”. He was a good sport on and off the field. David Ortiz had a humorous side to him but still made blunt

Recognition. Pete Rose has proven that even just an average Ohio kid can turn into one of the biggest and well known baseball stars in the world. He never gave up completely on baseball, and he also set a huge goal for so many baseball players around the world. Pete Rose has personally inspired tons of people to go out and make a huge difference in the world. To go try to do something incredible or even impossible. “It is impossible to succeed in life if you don’t try” is a quote Pete Rose’s dad said a lot that might have made a difference in Pete’s life (Lloyd
Hank Aaron is most commonly known for beating Babe Ruth's home run record of 714. He overcame racism and became one of the best players to ever play the game of baseball. He is a very rare, cross hitting Right Fielder. If you are a left handed hitter, you will have your left hand on the top of the bat handle and the right on the bottom. For righties it is vice-versa. But Hank was different. He was a lefty but he had his right hand on top and it made his swing look very awkward. However, he broke many records, had an award named after him, and even wrote his own book!
Jackie Robinson earned countless rewards during his career and was one of the highest ranked baseball players in the league over all. His all-time batting average of .410 is ranked 25th on the all-time list for the MLB. He is one of 15 players to ever win rookie of the year and the MVP award. Jackie stole home a total of 19 times in his career. Then finally in 1962 he made it into the hall of fame.
Pete Rose was 21 years old when he made his major-league debut in 1963 against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Opening Day. After receiving so much praise while spending time in the minors, Rose’s early start in the majors was not what the managers were hoping for. He started out his career going 0-12 at the plate. However, against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Rose finally made his first hit, a triple, which started a new hitting trend for Rose, as he ended up batting .273, scoring 101 runs, and being named the National League Rookie of the Year for his accomplishments (Sturgill, 2014.) He remembered how his father was a fighter and would always get back up after getting knocked down, so Rose did the same with his baseball career after his 0-12
During the 1920’s and 1930’s was a tough time for a lot of people, but luckily there isn’t only sadness in the world, but there is happiness, and Lou Gehrig was one of those people that would put a smile on your face. The attitude he had towards life was inspiring. I can’t even a imagine the joy he brought to the people of New York, especially when… Smack… he slammed a home run. Lou played in 2,130 consecutive games making him an outstanding role model for many who enjoyed the game
Each day, more games are played, more swings are taken, and the chances get higher. His spot in Cooperstown becomes increasingly more surreal after each clutch home run while he is in the spotlight. He is considered the king of clutch and was the most important factor when the red sox broke “The Curse”. He continues to define the odds during his magnificent retirement tour. He is atop every offensive category for Designated Hitters but, one report could ruin his chances of getting his plaque hung up inside of baseballs Hall of Fame. He is David “Big Papi” Ortiz and he deserves a spot in Cooperstown alongside baseballs greatest.
There were many obstacles that he had to overcome during Jackie Robinson’s lifetime. In the MLB he just had to take all of the heat from the fans, the other teams, and even his own team. Branch Rickey told Robinson that he was not allowed to fight back and say anything bad back to anyone, if he did everyone would turn against him. Throughout his whole MLB career he was always yelled at and made fun of but he just did not listen to
Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the MLB. Back then many people's point of view about African Americans was that they had some things, but the things should be worse than what the things white people had, and because of that he was proud yet uneasy because he would get a lot of hate for playing, and he did. The thing is he didn’t only get hate, but he also got threats against him and his family to physically harm him,“The hate mail piled up. There were threats against me and my family and even out-and-out attempts at physical harm to me.” Being in the MLB was hard and he could’ve given up, but he didn’t. Jackie Robinson stayed strong and he changed our point of view about African Americans not doing things that only white people could do and he helped our country change for the better
Jackie significantly helped his team by scoring 12 home runs in his first season, getting his team the National League Pennant, and helping to get them to the World Series. Although many people disliked him, he believed the only way to block them out was to excel. And he did! He ended the season with 12 home runs, 29 stolen bases, and a batting average of .342 . He was also selected rookie of the year in 1947. Recently, he won most valuable player in the League.
He lost one of his arms in a childhood accident. While only hitting .219 in the major leagues, he had an average of .333 and 5 home runs during his minor league
That was the year he became a superstar, he batted .358, hit 36 home runs, and had 123 RBI’s (Runs Batted In). His stats for that season were good enough for him to finish second in the MVP race (Alex Rodriguez Biography). Furthermore Rodriguez proved himself to be the best all-around player over roughly the next decade (Alex Rodriguez Biography). He gained many fans over these years, however they didn’t know what was going on behind the locker room doors.
With the same idea as Martin Luther King Jr., he worked hard to stay non-violent and to “turn the cheek” to the many threats and racial slurs he received throughout his time in the Major League. He was the target of many cold-hearted fans, and even some of the players on his own team. He was already born a leader, but these things fueled his fire even more. 5 years after he began playing in the MLB, he testified against discrimination before the House of Un-American Activities Committee and called out the Yankees for not yet breaking the color barrier. Along with that, he also served as a leader on the board of the NAACP until 1967.(www.NAACP.org) There, he made speeches that inspired people to get on board and to fight for their rights and for changes. He said, “Certainly if such revolutionary change can be brought about in baseball, it can be brought about in education, in transportation, and in any other area of American life. (Robinson) He believed that change was just around the corner, and all it needed was a little push. Jackie was a firm believer in his ideas and that is why he is such an important figure in our
Jackie Robinson was harassed and yell at, but still managed to be one of the greatest at baseball. During his book, Jackie claimed “ bigoted fans screaming "n-----." The hate mail piled up. There were threats against me and my family and even out-and-out attempts at physical harm to me.” Looking at that evidence proves Jackie was very courageous and knew he would make history someday. Many people say Jackie was the best baseball player ever.
In July 1949, he testified on discrimination before the House Un-American Activities Committee. In 1952, he publicly called out the Yankees as a racist organization for not having broken the color barrier five years after he began playing with the Dodgers.” He was very active in social activism for blacks rights. His biggest focus was impacting others
