In another study teens actually reported that in situations where revenge, retaliation, or prevention of face loss was the reason for the abusive behavior, the violence was justified (Sears, Byers, Whelan, & Saint-Pierre, 2006, p 1197). I think to decrease rates of sexual assault and dating violence on campus’s would be to get rid of the Greek system completely. Such institutions are rooted in tradition of male patriarchy and the continuum of a gender socialization process of what makes a young relationship “normal”. Males in fraternities and females in sororities are both more susceptible to hold stereotypical gender attitudes and experience sexual assault. This would be a hard plan to implement because the Greek system is such a huge tradition at college but I think a significant step like this could in fact help protect college students from dating violence and sexual assault.

They explained that there are several strategies used by the aggressors to attempt to fulfill their sexual desires while they are at the same time ignoring the others protestations. Some individuals feel that exerting physical violence; threatening, belittling or deceiving the partner is some of the forms of psychological and emotional abuse. By using these tactics, the partner who is not willing to engage in sexual interactions is faced with a conflict of rather performing the expected behaviors or feeling guilty, ashamed and incompetent.
