There are many things that could have been taken away from the FDIC MoneySmart simulated podcasts. One thing that really stuck with me is how dangerous identity theft is. A person can access your credit card information, your social security info and your credit report simply by opening one of your bills. It is scary to think that someone would just go through your mail to access that. We no longer have any personal privacy because people can easily access our information. My sisters wallet was stolen right out of her purse, when she was at the hospital one time. The person who stole it, used her credit card to make multiple purchases. Fortunately the credit card companies were able to tract down where the criminal was by looking at the recent
The Michelle Brown story was a story focused on identity theft. It told about a woman named Michelle Brown who as a child, dreamed about owning a home with a red door and a white picket fence. Michelle eventually achieved her dream because she budgeted, saved, and maintained an excellent credit history until she was ready to apply for a mortgage at a realty company. However, her happiness was short lived when the receptionist from the realty company named Connie stole her social security number, credit card number, and address. Connie stole Michelle’s information because she was jealous of how Michelle was able to afford clothing, jewelry, and many more items while she could not. Connie continually bought items using Michelle’s information and soon developed an obsession with Michelle’s identity. Michelle dealt with many problems because her identity was stolen and they almost ruined her relationships. Luckily, Connie was arrested and Michelle got her identity back.

A multitude of emotions and feelings washed over me as I watched the story of Michele Brown and her struggle with identity theft. I knew I would feel anger and I did as I realized that a young person with a dream to own a home could become exploited and violated in such a destructive way. Then, my feeling turned to disbelief. How could a person be so dishonest as to take advantage of another person? From a Christian perspective it is hard to fathom, but in reality, it is important that we all understand there are dishonest people in the world.
This is a case of my aunty who was a domestic house wife. One day on her way back from shopping her purse got stolen. She carried all her bank cards together with the personal identification numbers for her bank cards in her purse as she was not that educated and used to forget the PIN. She did not realize that her purse was stolen until she reached home. Same time she rushed back to town to get the bank card blocked but it was already late, the fraudster had withdrawn around $700.00 from the ATM. In this particular case my aunt was vulnerable as she lost $700. The controls/measures/practices to protect personal data in this caseare to memorize the
Throughout the United States' early history many government leaders were focused on the safety and security of citizens. The founders of the U.S. were more focused on making the people feel free and respected, in today's society the people of the U.S are more focused on personal liberties due to questionable actions taken by the government for the safety of the people. The 10th Amendment puts states rights over federal rights, but sometimes there are federal laws made to protect citizens that may defy personal liberties. The federal government feels it is their job to keep civilians safe and oblivious to the world's problems, but in doing this governments come across as secretive, invasive, or corrupt. With the amount of technology and terrorism these days no founder of the U.S nor early American citizen would

Every year there is a new cell phone from Apple or Samsung, with new features that make our lives more convenient. From faster software to higher picture quality and so on. I am unable to recall the last time I used a camera to take pictures or went to the bank to deposit a check. Technology advances every day and many can’t wait to see what’s next to come. Identity theft affects millions of Americans every day. Scam artists and hackers lay in wait for an unsuspecting person to get caught up their scheme through ignorance or naivety so they can take full advantage of their personal information to do as they desire with it. Problem is, it infiltrates and depreciates the integral infrastructure of our society which creates a cultural lapse through the declination of economic and cultural growth and double jeopardizes an already unstable system to the brink of its destruction. To understand how
There is currently a huge growing number of criminals that now do greater and more widespread damage to their victims without ever meeting them. Identity theft surfaced in the early 1990s and turned peoples everyday transactions into a data gathering game. Bits of personal information such as bankcards, credit card accounts, income, social security numbers or just someone name, address, and phone numbers are now collected and could be used illegally by these individuals without anyone’s knowledge.
