On December 14, 2012 Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and started shooting. Before he even walked into the school he had already killed his mother Nancy Lanza. He shot her in the head and them left her home to go to Sandy Hook. That is how Adam Lanza’s day started and it got worse from there. Police don’t know what triggered the events that happened that day, but they do that he had a lot of mental diseases and he was also anorexic. Police agencies have been working closely with their local schools to avoid future massacres. Many police agencies have implemented various approaches to ensure their response times are sharp. Daviess County, Kentucky Sherriff’s office began offering a 2-day training program that demonstrates various entry and movement techniques when confronting an active shooter (Cain, 2010) Many other agencies have introduced live-fire scenarios using artificial projectiles, and the use of ballistic shields. (Law Staff, 2008) As school shootings can never be predicted it is imperative that the education institutions and law enforcement agencies are ready and vigilant at all times to avoid other nationwide massacres.

School shootings are a tragedy, it’s just about impossible to say it’s not. Children are one of our most valuable resources as they are the future of this country and this world and we put so much time and energy into them it would make sense to keep them safe. The thing I don’t understand is why we protect our president with guns, our congressmen with guns, celebrities with guns, sporting events with guns, jewelry stores with guns, and yet we protect our kids with a gun free zone sign. And then when there is an emergency we call someone with a gun to solve the issue.
