On December 14, 2012 Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School and started shooting. Before he even walked into the school he had already killed his mother Nancy Lanza. He shot her in the head and them left her home to go to Sandy Hook. That is how Adam Lanza’s day started and it got worse from there. Police don’t know what triggered the events that happened that day, but they do that he had a lot of mental diseases and he was also anorexic. Police do know that he planned the event out because he studied books about mass murders and played video games on school shootings. One of the worst school shootings in American history. First, in the morning Adam lanza killed his mother and then goes to the Sandy Hook school with 3 guns. Adam walked in and killed 20 kids and six adults. He then killed himself. Because of the light security, Adam lanza went in the school and then he was able to do whatever he wanted to. Because the school had low security, the shooter walked right into the school and killed lots of people.

American society is prone to violence and no one is safe from the possibility of becoming a victim to crime. Every day the news covers stories that is filled with public violence or the brutal death of someone. Some believe that people commit crimes with the belief that they will not get caught. Born on November 9th, 1970, Lisa Vanderbeck grew up in a very close knit neighborhood, always doing things with her neighbors, whether they were thirty years older than her, or ten years younger. One person who she was extremely close to was a friend of her moms, Mrs. Louis, who lived five doors down from her. Lisa, her mom, and twin sister would go over to her house at least once a week for “Avon Lady Day”. They would drink coffee, and hang out with the other neighbors who attended.

On April 20, 1999, two high schoolers attacked Columbine High school using guns along with bombs. There were 20 people injured as well as 13 people dead. Nobody knows the real reasoning behind this act of terrorism. Many people believe that the boys did it due to lack of attention, while others believe the boys did it because they played violent video games. These two boys go by the names of Dylan Klebold, and Eric Harris.

Amidst all of the violence surrounding not only the United States, but also the whole world, I felt like the July 7th Dallas Shootings interested me. The attack took place on a Thursday evening during a Black Lives Matter Protest. The protest came shortly after the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, and occurred in many major cities that evening. After reviewing many different stories from both CNN and Fox News, I found one article hours after the attack occurred and one about one week later. This story definitely had a large amount of coverage online, in newspapers, and on television. The content of information was similar, but the article published one week after the killings had more accurate information since more become known

While the Tri-State is more than 1,000 miles from Sutherland springs area pastors are responding to the tragedy. Church leaders say the Texas shooting is sparking a conversation amongst their members about what unfolded and what can be done.

In particular, the shooting has brought attention to school safety throughout the country and beyond, has contributed to children’s fears, and possibly inspired future generations of shooters.

The assailant’s intention is to assault as many individuals as possible with no hope of surviving. According to the New York City Police Department report on active shooters, 46% of active shooters are stopped by law enforcement officials, or other bystanders, and 40% of the active shooters either commit suicide or attempt suicide. (NYPD, 2011) Police departments nationwide are training their officers to confront the active shooters quickly and as aggressively as possible. (Cain, 2010) Police departments have begun introducing various tactics in concealment, entering doorways, and working in small groups to have a tactical advantage in eliminating the assailant. Police agencies have been working closely with their local schools to avoid future massacres. Many police agencies have implemented various approaches to ensure their response times are sharp. Daviess County, Kentucky Sherriff’s office began offering a 2-day training program that demonstrates various entry and movement techniques when confronting an active shooter (Cain, 2010) Many other agencies have introduced live-fire scenarios using artificial projectiles, and the use of ballistic shields. (Law Staff, 2008) As school shootings can never be predicted it is imperative that the education institutions and law enforcement agencies are ready and vigilant at all times to avoid other nationwide massacres.

A way Americans should respond to this tragedy is in a non violent was or combative way, which is a more effective and morally right way to do so.
