Cypress College: A Case Study

In 1937, Meridian Community College (MCC) was founded as a part of Meridian High School in the local school system. In 1965, the College also formerly known as Meridian Junior College moved from its original location to its present location. In 1970, the College merged with the historically T.J. Harris Junior College according to a federal court order to the Meridian Municipal Separate School System. There were more than 400 students and faculty joined the MJC campus. In 1980, Meridian Junior College established its own district and Board of Trustees. Blue State Community College located in Mississippi is a small community college with a population of 5,000 students. The college which is located in a rural area is one of two community colleges in the state of Mississippi has recently undergone a leadership change. The former leader resigned amidst controversy. The Board of Trustees along with other entities is responsible for working with the Board of Governors to identify another leader.

Although Pensacola Christian College and Academy maintain many unique strength, but some weakness become obvious under globe business setting. One of the biggest weakness which is the core reason for this proposal that is foreign to many people. Three separate but similar surveys had been conducted during research. Three international students group from Asia are Chinese, Indonesia, and Korea. Twenty-five people from each group had been asked to answer to a same questions: “How do you know about Pensacola Christian College?” The results of surveys indicate that on one ever heard any advertise about Pensacola Christian College before they came. South Texas College has locations conveniently located throughout Hidalgo and Starr counties. The Pecan Campus in McAllen, Mid-Valley Campus in Weslaco and Starr County Campus in Rio Grande City offer traditional college programs. The Nursing Allied Health Campus and the Technology Campus in McAllen provide specialized training for students entering the workforce. In addition, South Texas College has Workforce Training Centers at the Technology Campus and the Mid-Valley and Starr County campuses. The Percentage of applicants submitted is 58%.Students who do not qualify for admission under either of the above conditions are admitted if they are at least 18 years of age and submit placement score test results from the Texas Success Initiative

Cypress College offers many student services. However after three semesters at Cypress College I can personally say that the library and LRC are one of the most helpful student services in the entire college. As students we all have different schedules, some of work others have tight schedules that make it seem impossible to go print our or work on that paper we need to do. However the LRC and the Library are open from Monday – Friday from 8:00am to 9:00pm there for allowing students to go in at later hours to work on any assignments they may have. Both the library and the Learning resource center have amazing and friendly staff who are always willing to help you in anything you may need. Cypress College has an array of services for students to take advantage and make use of to purse their academic goals. For many students, like myself, the goal is to transfer to a CSU or UC. Fortunate enough, students at Cypress College have the benefit of accessing the transfer center to ensure one is taking the correct course and have a smooth transition from Cypress College to the university of choice, as stated on www.cypresscollege.edu/services/transfer. The transfer center offers individual counseling, general education coursework check-sheets, and online transfer planning resources and link to ensure student success and extending their education to university level.

Alcorn State University is the oldest public historically black land grant institution in the United States, which was founded in 1871 as a result of the citizens of Mississippi’s efforts to educate the descendants of former slaves. Today, the institution exists as one of eight Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning. Current enrollment is approximately 4,000 student, which 96% are Black American.

Two specific groups that I identify with as part of my decision to attend Columbia Southern University is based on my family and work. As an individual my choice to attend is based on my own desire to achieve a higher education in order to obtain a job that is satisfactory to the life and goals I have mapped out for myself. By having a job for which I have specifically attended school for, it will allow me to get and sustain a career conducive to my own happiness and prosperity. While my own individual choice to attend school is great, I have a family that encouraged me greatly in this decision. Both my mother and father, between the two, have a Master’s degree in criminal justice, and a Bachelor's degree in paramedic studies. Naturally

School is an expensive investment in one’s future, and the financial aid office enables students to pursue higher education by providing financial assistance through fee waivers, grants, and federal loans. The cost of education varies widely depending on the type of degree or certificate program the student is pursuing, as well as the type of school the student is attending. Cypress College is a two year institution which allows students to transfer to a four year university or to obtain a certificate in their vocation of choice. Although Cypress College is affordable compared to four year universities and other private colleges, the cost of school is still a heavy burden for most students and their families. Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) is a nonprofit university that offers exemplary undergraduate and graduate education in the liberal arts and professional disciplines. During my time at SCSU, I am fortunate to have worked as a student worker and currently I work as a graduate assistant for the Community Alliance for Research and Engagement (CARE) program. Being able to serve as a graduate assistant in a nonprofit university encompasses a great deal of responsibilities and reward. For instance, I work with New haven residents to identify and tackle social and health issues identified by the community. I also work alongside the resident partners to build relationships with other neighborhood leaders and community organizations who have diverse knowledge, expertise, and skills. In addition, I help to create health activities with community residents, conduct outreach about neighborhood-level projects, and assist with research-related activities.

Originally many schools, including some post-secondary colleges, were designed as factories to train workers (Ackoff & Greenberg, 2008). With a focus on reading, writing, and arithmetic, individuals gained skills needed to complete robotic instructions, but unfortunately, not problem-solving techniques. This concept is still present in many of our schooling systems today including some of classes and graduation tracks at Your State Community College (YSCC). Founded in 1968, YSCC serves about 6,000 students preparing them for jobs in both academic and trade careers. Unfortunately, many of the students who enter the school do not score high enough on the placement examination and need remedial courses prior to taking college-level Math

There are many challenges college students have to face while attending school. The major ones most people think of are trying to find a way to pay for tuition, getting good grades and studying, while also carving out enough time to have a social life and staying healthy. Now imagine trying to do all of those things while also taking care of a child or maybe multiple children. While that may seem crazy, many students have to face this challenge every year. One of the hardest parts of this is finding someone to provide quality childcare at an affordable price. Hawkeye Community College has seen this problem, and has decided to do something about it.

There are many student programs and services which are available for Cypress College students. The services and programs Cypress College offers, such as Counseling, Bookstore, and career Planning Center, are very beneficial, and they also lead students to achieve their academic and personal goals. Southern University A&M College welcomed Dr. J.S. Clark as the new African American leader and president in 1914 after the big move. As Dr. Clark as president, he made numerous improvements on campus and off campus. He established a Junior College, teacher-training curriculum, Agricultural Extension Program, a summer normal school, six brick buildings for instructional activities, five brick dormitories, and eleven wooden structures for the faculties. Before his retirement came, he funded money from the government to build a library, a football stadium, an administration building, a gymnasium, and additional dormitories.
