Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are huge contributors to cyberbullying. These social network sites grant their members the privilege to engage in the actions of the attacker which is a menace. A majority of the cyberbullied population have committed suicide due to the abusive comments. Cyberbullying has gone into a hyper drive with new devices and faster types of social media.

Contrary to this general misconception, cyberbullying has the potential to be more dangerous than traditional bullying because the aggressor has the ability to be anonymous and can harass the victim 24/7 every day of the week. Scientific research examining the consequences of cyberbullying helped establish it as a social problem by linking it to emotional and mental health conditions. The rapid spread of cyberbullying-related media over the Internet has raised awareness on its possible hazards and helps justify cyberbullying as a social problem. A growing issue in America today is cyberbullying. As technology advances in society, it also becomes a ground for bullying and harassment of others. Cyberbullying has become a major issue in our society and we need to act up take precautions to stop and to help others that are victimized.

With the evolvement of time, it has become popular amongst people of all age groups. It is useful in the way that it allows the sharing of information and messaging between people of all over the world. The term cyberbullying refers to the usage of internet boards to intimidate, threat, and harm individuals. It is roughly estimated that about a third of the population have experienced this type of negativity at one point or another. The downside of excessive social media use is that once information is out on the web, it is spread quickly and then becomes difficult to get rid of. Cyberbullying has become a very big issue today in society and it is something that should not be taken lightly when considering penalty. Negative outcomes of cyberbullying include things such as social anxiety, privacy issues, and even suicide.

Cyberbullying has the potential to be devastating to children, adolescents and adults as it is being cruel to others by sending or posting harmful material or engaging in other forms of social aggression using the internet or other digital technologies (Morgan, 2013). Firstly, this essay will look at the internet, what it is, when it came about, what it is used for and the benefits and disadvantages of the internet. Secondly, I will discuss cyberbullying, what it means, the concern, what is involved, and who is involved. Thirdly, the effects of cyberbullying, why and how has it become a concern, consequences for those involved, how bad the problem is, and will it continue to be a growing concern unless something is done. And lastly, what is being done to address the problem of cyberbullying, what is the government doing about the problem, people and organizations that are or need to be involved, and what else could be done.

The 21st century has had many revolutionary advances, but with such advances come multiple drawbacks. Though social media is an advance within itself, it is also a massive step back in actual sociability. Even though social media can connect people together from hundreds of miles away and spread ideas from one part of the world to another, social media can also spread hatred, insults, and can overall promote negative activity.

Cyberbullying is a big issue in the world right now. With the growth of technology over the past decade, more and more people have become acquainted with it. People do everything on technology nowadays. From talking to friends, to playing games, and even doing your banking. But there are people who use technology for unjust. Not criminals even though the things they do could be counted as crimes in some people’s eyes. Bullying, antagonizing, or oppressing; all of these are unjust. These actions push and beat down their victim mentally through social media and private messages. There are many different reasons why people bully. It could because of the jealousy, a way to become popular, anonymity, getting even, others are doing it too, or they have been the victim before. Theses beatdowns of abuse can take a toll on the victim. The victim could start a eating disorder, self-harming, push away people, and worst case scenario is suicide. Even the bully will have bad effects from their actions such as guilt, regret, and trauma. The effects of cyberbullying are horrific and it should be stopped.
