This is physical bullying, here is an example of cyberbullying. Cyberbully: A word that you may see repeatedly in news and social media, even maybe you or your friends have been a victim of this phenomenon. History DBQ Technology is a basic necessity for most people of this period. It has taken a great effect on the children of our age, however with this power they can say just about anything online, however should there be a limit to this power? The first amendment says that there can be no law that limits the freedom of speech, but there are certain limits that are given by the supreme Court. Many are not sure whether it is right to limit their speech, or to let them roam free. In my opinion schools should have the ability to limit their students speech to prevent the cyber bullying that occurs on their campuses, as it happens to many of the student population, creates a toxic environment for the teachers, and considering it is just like bullying, it should not be allowed either.
Is the threat of bullying a real threat to kids today? Bullying has been a threat for a long time in schools and adding the new advances in technology such as cell phones, twitter and facebook bullying is now being done online and school learning is being affected. Schools should have the power to limit students’ online speech because the percent of boys and girls being cyberbullied is raising, teachers teaching ability is being affected, and students learning in class is being affected. One reason schools should have the power to limit their students online speech is cyberbullying is now a problem in the United States. The Cyberbullying Research Center posted statistics in February 2010 saying 16.6% of males between the ages of 10-18 have been cyberbullied and 25.1% of females ages between 10-18 have also been cyberbullied (Doc A).
“We have freedom of speech, but you got to watch what you say” said the comedian Tracy Morgan. And he was correct. In this modern world today, numerous students abuse the First Amendment. Over the media, students are posting comments, videos, stories, etc. about other students and teachers. These students are cyberbullies. The schools should be allowed to limit students’ online speech because cyber bullying privacy and dignity are important, it hurts feelings, and affects the school.
Have you ever been cyberbullied? Cyberbullying is a problem which became worse when the internet was introduced. The internet gives us a huge amount of information but some people harras others with it. They can create hate websites, bully them, intimidate them and more. To limits studets online speech should schools be allowed to do this?
In the 21st century, Technology has transformed society in revolutionary ways. Anyone is able to instantly communicate with someone else via email, text or social media. Any situation of anger or disappointment may cause the teen to cross the line from wanting to die, to actually trying to kill themselves.
Technology can be used in many ways to cyber bully. Barnardos released a booklet in 2012 outlining a number of key risk factors of cyber bullying. Personal intimidation includes actions such as sending out threatening text messages, posting abusive and threatening comments on the victim’s Facebook profiles or other websites and the use of instant messaging in chat rooms etc. to threaten the victim further. Impersonation involves setting up fake profiles and web pages that are attributed to the victim; this also involves hacking or gaining access to the victims profile to contact or instant message others. Exclusion encompasses blocking an individual from a class group or community group on a social media website. Personal humiliation is a behaviour that involves posting images or videos of the victim that are intended to embarrass or humiliate them. This can be done on Facebook or by text messaging etc. And lastly false reporting, this is where the bully reports the victim to the service provider for a range of behaviours with a view to having the account suspended, blocked or deleted (Get With It, 2012).
Bullying is a bad thing but the worst of all the types of bullying is cyber bulling, it is a terrible weapon that can destroy someone's life and reputation. Cyber bullying is a part of bullying in which a person torments or harasses other people in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner, with technology.
