As my cultural other, I interviewed EMG, she is 26 years old and the au pair for my nephew and niece. She lives in their home since she moved from her hometown Cartagena in southeast Spain. She will be leaving this May to return to Spain, for her sister’s high school graduation, after about 18 months with the family. In the time she has been here, I have seen and interacted with her at family gatherings, usually holidays and birthdays. I have not personally created a bond or relationship with EMG, but I think she is a sweet girl. EMG has become friends with my daughter; they have gone to New York City for New Year’s Eve and Pennsylvania for a Taylor Swift concert. My interview with EMG was comfortable since we have spent time around each other previously and it was a good one-on-one conversation. We started by discussing where she is from, which she described as a small city that has the same name as a city in Columbia. She shared that she has wanted to come to the US for a long time, stating her reasons for coming are, “to improve my English and the whole American experience. I love American culture. An example of this is her use of the word state instead of province when telling me where she lives in Spain. The more times that I encounter people that are going out of their way to communicate in my language for me to best understand demonstrates that I should do the same for them and others. I may not become fluent in another language, but I feel strongly that it is important for me to learn some keywords and phrases that will enrich connection with my patients. It will be important for me to attempt and struggle in the same way to find the words in another language to show my willingness to cross into their world and tailor interventions to their
For the intercultural interview, I decided to interview my friend Medelyn, a 19 year old female of Honduran and Mexican descent. During the interview, I focused on her Honduran culture, as she was born in Honduras, I asked her a multitude of various questions ranging from formalities in her culture to gender roles to classism in her culture.. The interview lasted about twenty minutes, I asked her about fifteen questions, and after she answered each question there would be a small discussion about her answer. When interviewing Medelyn, it was important to rid myself of any ethnocentrism, assumed cultural similarity or differences, stereotyping, and anything that could create a bias and compromise the interview.
Jordan Smith is a 33 year old Caucasian female. She was self-referred to counseling due to restlessness, irritability, difficulty concentrating and inability to sleep. The client reported that, for a year, she has constantly felt worried to the point where she often has difficulty performing daily tasks. Mrs. Smith was appropriately dressed and attentive, however, she exhibited physical behavior of bouncing her leg, twiddling her thumbs and cracking her knuckles throughout the entirety of the session.
Mexican culture is colorful and rich, enriched with pride and heritage. Family values and strong moral constitution have sustained the culture for hundreds of years. I have had the pleasure to interact and consort with the Mexican culture most of my life in the business that I'm in. Dedication and hard work are the stables that bound the stigma of the Mexican culture. Being that I truly honor the culture I have chosen a friend of mine that I work with to perform my interview upon. My interviewee is Maria Dimas; she was born in Cancun Mexico but has lived most of her life in the United States.
On Tuesday, March 10, 2017 at approximately 10:am Melinda Acevedo and I interviewed the complainant patient Jeffry Shagawat and obtained the following statement.
Do you think Serge’s skills were assessed adequately? Do you think he was correctly identified as learning disabled? Why or Why not?

Five years ago, I was working for a pool company while attending graduate school majoring in educational administration. During this time, I met several different people on a day to day basis. One person that stuck out in my mind was Mr. Mark Freeman. I observed him as he would bring his family to the pool throughout the week in the later afternoon’s. He was always professional, kind, and respectful in everything he went about doing. He soon began chatting with me daily and I later found out he was the principal of the El Campo Middle School.
My cultural interview was with a coworker, 28 years of age and of Hispanic descent. While conducting the interview I learned a lot about the Hispanic culture. Many Hispanics like to be called Latino (a). Some do not like to be referred to as Mexican when they are from other countries other than Mexico. Hispanics also use slang within their culture just like African Americans. Within the culture the male is the dominant figure in the household. All the decisions that affect the family go through the father. If there is no father in the house, the oldest son fulfills that role. The older son may drop out of school so that they may assist the mother at the house in the absence of the father. Many Hispanics
Overall my mock interview went better than I had initially anticipated it would be. The mock interview allowed me to find out about skills I did not know I had as well as skills I need to hone in order to use them to my benefit in interviews in the future. I have had previous experience doing interviews for jobs and scholarships and have even practiced my interviewing skills in high school. I believe it is essential in practicing as much as possible how to do an interview because there will always be a new skill that can be attained and new ways of formalizing an answer to fit the wants of the potential job or opportunity that may arise. It is important to know how to formalize an answer on the spot without sounding unsure of the answer the

For my interview reflection paper, I decided to listen to the NPR’s interview with Oliver Sacks, “A Neurologist at the ‘Intersection of Fact and Fable.” Terry Gross had the opportunity to interview him in regard to his book, “Hallucinations,” which elaborates on patients who had hallucinations as a result of numerous different causes, including medications and injuries. Gross also asked him personal questions that pertained to his own experiences with recreational drugs and being a neurologist. Therefore, in this paper, I will be discussing what techniques Gross used and whether or not they were successful in obtaining valuable information from Sacks.
Joan is a motivated and enthusiastic client who knows her goals and has the eagerness to tackle them. Despite her many attempts in the past, she is still determined to lose 25 pounds before her son’s wedding in two months. She knows that it will take consistency and maybe some schedule changes to turn her goals into reality. Joan loves exercise and trusts me as her fitness instructor to help her achieve her goals.
I can only imagine what it would be like to be a student who is culturally different from their peers at school and not even the teachers or administrators know how to properly act around students of different cultural backgrounds. I personally would not be fond of being in an environment that made me feel uncomfortable or negative in any way. While interviewing my friend Stephanie, I learned what it was like to go to a school that was predominantly people of her race and then have to transfer to a school that was predominantly white. We discussed our school related experiences throughout kindergarten and high school. The main focus of our differences was our race and how our experiences were affected by it. Stephanie shared about the experiences
Doing my practicum at the Regina Immigrant Women Centre had given me an opportunity to watch the staff interacting with the clients who came from different cultural backgrounds. It also provided me with an opportunity to develop and enhance my own cultural sensitivity when dealing with people that came from different cultural backgrounds. I also gained the opportunity to put into effect some of the theoretical skills such as acceptance of cultural differences between people, empathy, warmth, and a capacity to respond flexibly to a range of possible situations regarding settlement needs. I learned to be very respectful of each person’s culture because of the examples that were set by the RIWC staff and also was able to connect it to JS 460.
