ABSTRACT
Globalization can be defined as a system of interaction or increasing global relationships between cultures, people, and economic activities among the countries of the world. Globalization in its simpler form refers to conglomerate exchange of languages, ideas, and cultures. Behaviour or impacts of Globalization differ from country to country having a demarcation between developed countries like Britain and developing countries. Some critics allege that it has been footing down the cultural values and increasing conflicts between two nations. Globalization is a double-edged sword as it impacts and affects all generations of people, economically, politically, environmentally, and culturally. While Globalization has its benefits-millions of people around the world are now more empowered because of global interconnectedness-there are still many problems that can and already have risen from cultural and economic development around the world KEYWORDS: globalisation, environment, opportunity.
INTRODUCTION The historical origin of the process of Globalization is debatable as in common usage refers to late twentieth century but some scholars regard it as having ancient history. One can confirm this by observing the trade patterns between the empires in ancient times. Some examples such as Silk Road between eastern world and Ottoman Empire, trade links between Roman Empire and India can be cited. Another stage of Globalization began during the Islamic age with the
Globalization refers to the interconnection among countries, politically, economically and culturally. Globalization has come into existence due to the following factors: (i) betterment in transportation and communication, (ii) human and capital mobility, (iii) increasing formation and existence of NGOs and multinational corporations.
The term globalization can be defined as a process by which societies, regional economies and cultures have been integrated via a global network of transportation, communication and trade. It has both positive and negative impacts in all the areas that it touches on be it economical, social, technology, cultural, political, environment, health or any other. Globalization started to have an impact on businesses world wide in the eighteenth century since that time marks the merging of modernity and globalization. However, in the modern sence, globalization kicked off after the end of Second World War since its during that time that leaders felt the urge to break down the borders
There are many ways to look at and understand modern globalization. In general terms, globalization means that the world, as a whole, is leading to a more utopian society, meaning that the globe is become very interconnected and similarities are growing between different regions and cultures of the world. Globalization is a phenomenon that has been evolving since before 10,000 B.C. This constant evolution can cause many problems, but it can also solve many issues positively as well. Development of any country, however, seems to be a key issue when discussing globalization. Globalization and development present two different factors in the world today. Many countries are lacking in their own development while the world around them is becoming more developed and globalized. Globalization hinders development because with globalization, less developed countries depend on more developed countries to help them to sustainability and self-reliance.
Globalization is the buzzword of today as someone think it could develop the international. People can contact different things in their own place which are from other countries. Moreover, internet is more important things in globalization whatever for personal or society as it can let us to contact the things in the outside such as the international news. Globalization let the world being ‘smaller’. Nevertheless, most of the interests are brought in by the developed countries. They cannot take care developing countries. As a result of these companies only want to bring in the profits, thus that arises a lot of issues because of globalization. The positive things just on the surface of globalization.
“Globalization refers to all those processes by which the people of the world are incorporated into a single world society, global society.” Definition by Martin AL brow, 1990, a British Sociologist. Globalization helps to under developed countries by increasing their economic. On the other side, researchers and experts are saying that, globalization helps in increasing gap between poor and rich people in all around the world. The impact of the globalization is so wide and board, it is difficult to solve, because every countries of the world are crying to develop their economy by globalization. As a result, the globalization increase the gap between rich and poor because of, improper wage system and insecurity of jobs, multinational companies, environment treaties, and technology.
Globalization is a process of increasing integration and the result of economic, cultural and political interdependence among countries. Globalization has been a controversial debate, since this phenomenon has affected the world in several ways. Consequently, there are plenty of economic, cultural and political arguments in favor of and against it. Some arguments in favor of globalization are that it promotes democracy, creates jobs (by dividing labor around the world), promotes knowledge and an interconnected world, and makes the world “borderless.” On the other hand, others argue that
Cultural globalization has negative aspects because of cultural toadyism, cultural uniformity, and its political influence.
Globalization is commonly examined by simply dissecting its political and economic consequences. As a result, the effects on culture are often overlooked. According to U.S. Census projections, by 2043 non-Hispanic whites will become a minority consisting of 47 percent of the U.S. population (Barreto, et al 1). Examining the world as a whole, a 2015 study by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs/Population Division found that between 1950-2000, an average of 2.8 million people per year migrated to North America and Europe. From 2000-2015, that rate accelerated to 4.1 million per year. What is more, this study projects that from 2015-2050, 91 million people are expected to migrate to high-income countries and produce an 82 percent increase in population in destination countries. Clearly, the prospect of steady migration and the continuing effects of globalization are expected to produce more multicultural societies. Unfortunately for many, “foreign” has become synonymous with danger (Rothkopf). The debate between cultural unity and cultural plurality dates back to the Greeks where they questioned universal human goodness and the differences between societies. More than two millennia later, the issue of a common versus diverse human culture remains contentious. This paper argues that a diverse human culture is more desirable than a universal culture because states and societies benefit from promoting and protecting diversity.
Globalization is a power that affects everyone on the world. Globalization is when companies expand internationally. Globalization offers a great deal of opportunities such as opening up new trade routes and new technology. Globalization is seen differently by different people. M. Khan (2004) argues, “for the economist, globalization is essential the emergence of a global market. Sociologists see globalization as the celebration of diversity and the convergence of social preferences in matters of lifestyle and social values”. In a way all of these perspectives are true.
Culture is a person’s way of living, the way they speak, eat, and worship. From the stimuli given, the common theme is culture and the way of living being affected greatly. In Vanishing Voices, it discussed how many languages are disappearing in favor of more commonly used ones. In A Letter to My Nephew, it was about an African American man encouraging his nephew to stay true to himself and not to let others decide his destiny because he did not have to be just like [the white man]. In The Struggle to Govern the Commons, it was about people with more power shaping the world in their own image. Lastly, in Self Portrait Between the Borderlines of Mexico and the United States, it shows how Mexican people loss their connection to nature and themselves as they are shaped to the ideas of America. The source behind their culture and way of living being affected is globalization. Globalization has an immense impact on culture because it connects different cultures and causes “small” cultures to assimilate into “larger” cultures.
Globalization and the global trend of culture have defined the processes in which we share and connect ourselves, others, and the world. Globalization can take on many different shapes and forms in its free flow of goods and services across national borders. As we know globalization is an integration of business and trade between different organizations. So, when there is an international interaction that can easily affect people’s cultural, environmental and social life in one way or the other that can easily create a disorder in growth and could impact the local human right in different ways. Culture is one of the many things affected by globalization through different ways of international trading processes. Nations have been tackling to preserve their indigenous cultures and mores from the influential cultures in different ways.
Although connections might not seem apparent, nations around the world have become closer to one another now more than ever before. Countries are creating stronger internal ties; goods and services are being promoted and exchanged between nations, which creates relationships. Globalization is a process of intercommunication and integration within people, companies, and different nation’s governments. Globalization is processed by international trade and investments aided by information technology. This process has many effects on a nation. It affects the environment, culture, political systems, economics, and development. In addition to human’s physical wellbeing in societies around the world. Citizens and companies do not desire to do business with other nations just because, but instead it is an occurrence because there is a better benefit for that citizen or company. Globalization will progress until the government applies rules and regulations to control it, or stop it. Globalization and developing countries have a parallel correlation. As a country develops globalization occurs. Globalization can bring on both great opportunities and disadvantages. Globalization can create aggressive competition.
One of the most outstanding elements that define an ethnicity is their culture. The definition of culture is based on the beliefs, customs, arts and other elements of a particular society, group or place. Therefore, customs, practices, ways of being, rituals, the way of dressing and behavior standards are topics within the culture of a specific society. In many cultures, globalization and consumption are two very identical phenomena. Globalization is undoubtedly a phenomenon of our time, which has great influence in many aspects on which the various contemporary societies develop. Globalization has a great impact on cultures. During my visit to a regular supermarket store and to an international supermarket, the sociological concepts were easily very noticeable. The melting pot at an international market becomes alive with all the different ethnicities. The first difference I noticed was the congestions in the parking lot, when I visited the stores, the parking was packed. At the regular American store, it was very obvious that most of the customers were Caucasians. From the moment one enters the stores, the differences and similarities are very obvious; in this case, I felt the differences were more obvious. The neighborhoods where these supermarkets are located are very different as well. I would say that most people living in the surroundings of the regular mainstream grocery store are Caucasians or African Americans, and most people living near the international store
Globalization is the process regarding an increasing interaction of people, states, or countries through the growth of the international flow of money, ideas, and culture. It can also be tied to business ventures where businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale. The idea of globalization has become very controversial in the United States labor market. There are many pros and cons on how it affects the labor markets. Along with the labor market controversy people also debate over whether globalization is a threat or opportunity to the United States economy. Although Globalization has brought a significantly positive impact on most countries in terms of economy, culture, and politics, it also has left some drawbacks behind on the same aspects.
Globalization is the process of international integration arising from the interchange of world views, products, ideas and other aspects of culture. To better understand globalization and how it can impact someone in different ways, I interviewed two people. The first person I interviewed is Jane Beamon. Jane is the General Manager of Off-Highway Business for Cummins Emission Solutions. Cummins Inc is a global power leader that designs, manufactures, distributes and services diesel and natural gas engines and engine-related component products, including filtration, after treatment, turbochargers, fuel systems, controls systems, air handling systems and electric power generation systems (2017). Cummins is also a leader when it comes to globalization and how it can play a role in the success of a company. When asked how globalization has impacted her community, Jane was very supportive of globalization. “What makes America great is the merging of different cultures and the many benefits that are a direct result of that merging." When asked to clarify, Jane stated:" the rise and popularity of cultural festivals and events yearly is confirmation that Indianapolis has embraced other cultures." When it comes to businesses that are present here, Indianapolis is a melting pot of franchises as well as locally owned ventures. Take Ikea for instance; most people are not aware that it originated in Sweden advised Jane. When it comes to affordable shopping and convenience, globalization
