Culture, society and health are three different variables that not only involve and is part of only one context towards the patient health care. These patients present unique behaviors and thoughts regarding the experience of the disease, as well as particular notions about health and therapeutics. These particularities do not come from biological differences, but from sociocultural differences. In short, one assumes that everyone has culture, and that it is the culture that determines these particularities. Equally, it is maintained that the issues inherent to health and disease should be thought from the specific sociocultural contexts in which they occur. By assuming that culture is a total phenomenon and therefore providing a worldview to the people who share it, thereby guiding their knowledge, practices and attitudes, the issue of health and disease is contained in this worldview and social praxis. Illness and health concerns are universal in human life, present in all societies. Each group collectively organizes itself - through material means, thought and cultural elements - to understand and develop techniques in response to experiences, or episodes of illness and misfortune, whether individual or collective. Each and every culture has concepts about what it is to be sick or healthy. They also have classifications about diseases, and these are organized according to criteria of symptoms, gravity, etc. Their classifications, as well as the concepts of health and disease, are not universal and rarely reflect biomedical definitions. For example, fallen ark, shroud, rupture and evil eye (16) are considered diseases for several Brazilian groups, however, they are not recognized or treated by (bio) doctors.
