The change in administrations in 1973 proved to be immensely helpful in finally negotiating a way out of the mess. With the transition to a Republican administration Mr. Reaves had lost most of his influence in Raleigh and found it in his interest to negotiate a resolution regarding his land. In addition, as a side effect of NER’s negotiating for State Park land, it had developed a very good working relationship with the Republican administration in the Department of Interior in Washington, specifically with one of the Assistant Secretaries of Interior, Douglas Wheeler. Wheeler and I worked closely together on several matters and this contact proved to be vital to resolving the Cape Lookout Seashore

The site chosen for this report is the Moolap Waterfront and its hinterland. It is located 5km East of the City Centre of Geelong, South -west of Melbourne, Victoria. The site is generally flat topography with a significant coastal frontage and it’s considered to be a flood prone area.(This should go up)

I am writing to you today to explain the habitation loss that has been occurring in Hastings point. Hastings point is a great tourist destination, due it not being full in development and it is close to the beach. Furthermore, discussions about these issues will be throughout this letter to why the council should reject from building more infrastructure, many of these reasons will be due to habitat loss.

An up-to-date survey of the entire property which shows the existing improvements and the location of all wetlands and poorly and very poorly drained soils (including wetland flag numbers), wetland buffer, and 12’ primary structure setback from the buffer edge. The survey should be prepared by a licensed surveyor. For properties where the wetland delineation is older than 3 years, the professional who did the original delineation should reconfirm the accuracy of the boundaries in writing as part of the application. The Conservation Commission reserves the right to request documentation/notes for any wetlands delineation.

The Avon Heathcote area has suffered extensive damage from the 2011 earthquakes which has caused land surrounding the Avon-Heathcote Estuary to drop by 20 to 50 cm as described in figure 4. This combined with the expected sea level rise has left some areas vulnerable to flooding. However, housing in this area was not red zoned and more than 1300 homes are at risk. A flood in this area is largely due to water flowing freely from the river and sea into the estuary. The council wants a solution to be formed which will reduce the risk of flooding in the area. There are multiple constraints that need to be assessed when determining a solution. These constraints include: social, environmental, economical and physical factors.

With respect to beaches protection, per household annual WTP to protect a one percentage point of Old Saybrook beaches and dunes is $10, statistically significant at 1% level. The differential impact of private homes vulnerability to flood-related risks on the WTP for beaches protection is consistent across all subjective and objective measures (in terms of the sign and being statistically significant at the conventional levels). The difference in the annual WTP to protect one percentage point of the existing beaches between two otherwise identical households is $3.60 higher for the household with perceived likelihood of sustaining damage to their home that is ten percent lower. Using the flood zone indicator, the per household annual WTP to protect one percentage point of the town beaches by those whose homes are located outside flood zones is about $15 higher as

The Isle of Wight includes a variety of geology, with exposures along stretches of coastal cliffs recording millions of years of continuous coastal change. The geology is of great significance on account of the completeness of a large scale of historical time periods that make a exceptional contribution to the appreciation and understanding of the geological history of the region and Britain. The geology and geomorphology of the Isle of Wight coastline provides a very rich natural environment, with a diversity of coastal habitats, the above mixture of selected natural environmental assets, supported by natural processes creates a coastline of great importance, with a regionally vital tourism economy.

These are things such as sea walls, groynes and revetments. Other hard engineering techniques are things such as the dumping of boulders and sub surface drainage When deciding what coastal management scheme to put in place whether it a sea wall or an area to hold flood water, the people undertaking the project must look at possible solutions that would be best in relation to physical factors the chosen scheme will be the best scheme to limit or stop the thing that is occurring. They are likely to take into account the rock type in the area the height of land, shape of the land and the cause of the problem. Possible and reasonable solutions would be put forward and the best solution in relation to the physical geography is likely to be put in place.

I am writing this letter in order to turn your attention to two different sites on the Isle of Wight. I have been contracted by DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) to assess the current state of the southern coast of the island. The Isle of Wight is always susceptible to landslides and coastal erosion. Hence investigations need to be done regularly in order to minimise the negative impacts of these events. The sites I will be talking about include:

Coastal dune systems serve as a natural alternative to hard engineering defence methods. They act as a barrier which contribute to the stabilization of the coastal landscape and protects it when coastal disasters occur. During storms, waves flatten the beach and collapse the dune facing the beach, realising sand offshore and creating large bars in the surf zone. These sandbars cause waves to break further offshore, and following the storm, waves with less height return the eroded sand slowly from offshore back to the beach, allowing the dune to recover. In this way, the dunes absorb the impact of storms preventing or minimising intrusion of waters into inland areas, protecting structures from flooding. On the other hand, hard engineering methods tend to interrupt natural beach processes, increasing erosion risk and beach scour, which often ends up in artificial replacement of sand. Therefore, dune systems are highly efficient and the least expensive defence against shoreline erosion, and is a softer solution since there is no introduction of harsh elements to the system (Choi et al., 2013; Gomez-Pina et al., 2002; Cornelis and Gabriels, 2003). An example is the dune system along the Dutch coast, where plenty of research has been done due to their importance as a line of defence feature in the Netherlands (de Groot et al., 2012).

The beautiful city of Cambridge has an enviable reputation as one of the world’s greatest universities as well as being an agreeable place to live and work. The inhabitants enjoy low unemployment, a cluster of good schools and plenty of green spacious parkland. The river Cam provides a focal point in the summer with its flotilla of punts gliding around gentle bends overhung with lush willows.
