3…2…1… Go. I throw myself to the ground, not caring if I bruise my knees, and burpee my way through the workout. The sound of blood pulsing in my ears is deafening, yet all I’m focused on is completing this workout. My palms are sweaty and I’m nervous. However, I am excited to tackle this challenge, to prove to myself that I am capable, I am strong, and I am determined. This is my experience in The CrossFit Games Open workout 18.2. I have been able to utilize the perseverance and strength I have gained from CrossFit and apply it to my immediate life and my trials at West Chester. At times, situations do not go exactly my way, and others I am riddled with confidence that I am prepared to confront challenges. However, every experience and hardship is a way to learn and better myself everyday. I never had the nicest clothes, gadgets, nor did I get a car for my 16th birthday. However, my parents instilled the value of hard work and effort into me at a very young age. I come from a white, Italian, mid class family, that works for everything we have and appreciates the little things in life. I’ve worked my way through high school and college in order to put myself in the best possible situation to succeed. I’ve always understood that nothing comes easy in life and, in order to chase dreams, I have to work hard and experience failure. However, asking for help is not a sign of weakness. Through a scholarship, it will further my academic position at West Chester, and lessen the burden I face trying to sustain my academic
We at Bombers CrossFit love creating tight bonds with our athletes in the Dayton, OH community. After all, that’s what we do here—build connections. It is through these connections that we help you find your strengths and your speed. When you enter the CrossFit Open, you will have an opportunity to show the community what you have learned and how much you have grown. Most importantly, though, you will have the chance to show yourself how courageous you have become.
Not knowing what is going to happen is a scary thought. That could go with anything school, your job, or your life in general. The Reebok CrossFit games are all about the unexpected, the unknowable, and with that you have to train for anything and everything. Rich Froning is a four-time consecutive Reebok CrossFit champion, but during the writing of this book he's only talking about his first two, which was in 2011 and 2012. I got enjoyment out of reading this autobiography of Rich Froning’s experience at the Games; because it showed his development before CrossFit, it showed me what mental capability, you have to be at to even make it to the games, and finally I related to it due to my love for the sport.
For 2 years I was a member of the Central Toronto Athletic Club. CTAC is a competitive middle distance running club that trains its athletes to compete in track and field and cross country events. It is a year round athletic club that is a platform for talented people of almost all ages to train and to focus on their self-progress as an athlete. At CTAC I was encouraged to push myself to test the limits of my speed, endurance and strength and to discover what my body is truly capable of. Running was a very satisfying sport because my achievements were directly proportional to the amount of work that I put in. At CTAC, I learned discipline, dedication and perseverance. I had to balance my schoolwork with daily practices or workouts, I ran six

You've probably heard the newest craze in the athletic arena, it's called Crossfit and it is tough stuff. CrossFit was founded upon the strength and conditioning programs used by many government academies such as police, military and special ops units. However crossfit is not solely entitled to those in elite fields, in fact you could do your own Crossfit workouts at home by yourself and still achieve results. CrossFit was designed to be used by elite athletes and elderly individuals alike. The only difference is the amount of load used in the workouts and the intensity.
In 2000, Greg Glassman founded an intense fitness program, called CrossFit. CrossFit has become wildly popular and is known to be a very successful workout. They have proven that their specific workout, will always give results. They combine cardio and weight-lifting, to make an intense, but rewarding, workout. They have a specific workout plan, that is unaltered, no matter the client.
Ever since I was a young child, my parents always told me to try my best in school, they always told me this for the reason that they never had the opportunity to have a good job because they never finished school. This event is shaping me to care a lot regarding my education. In addition to that, another event that has shaped me to become the person I am today is that since my parents don’t have good paying jobs they have to work hard to take care of me and my siblings this event has caused me to become a hard working person and to seize all opportunities to live a good life because I don’t want to struggle like my parents.
As a senior at Red Cloud High School, I’m a member of National Honor Society, captain of the cheer squad, lifeguard, swimming instructor, and part-time employee at the local grocery store. I’ve come to learn from a young age that money doesn’t grow on trees. When growing up, it was just my mother and I. While living on her single parent income, I learned money doesn’t grow on trees. My mother worked a minimum wage job, facing financial struggles at times. Her willpower drove her to get the job she has today. My mother married, and I have a little brother now. As his big sister, I always wanted to be someone he could look up to. At the age of fifteen I became a lifeguard at the community pool. The next year I took classes to be a certified Water Safety Instructor, so I could teach swimming lessons to local children. That same year I applied at the local grocery store, to have a job during the school year.
I've always been the odd man out on any sports team who looked forward to conditioning at the end of practice and would hold my plank an extra few seconds until I really felt the pain. I loved pushing myself beyond my expected limits and the satisfaction of leaving the gym knowing I gave my full effort. Although the thought of taking a weight lifting class was extremely intimidating, I acknowledged my deep love for training and bettering myself.
To satisfy my curiosity and gain a broad understanding of athletic training, I chose to interview my boss, Pete Stevens. Pete is employed by Physiotherapy Associates, a nationwide corporation that specializes in physical/occupational therapy, athletic training, and fitness/sports training. He has worked there for three years. He is currently the Head
My parents always encouraged my siblings and I that we were capable of doing anything that we set our minds to. It didn’t matter where or what we wanted to do; all that mattered was if we had the passion to do it and succeed. From that, I was always set on becoming a doctor. It didn’t matter what kind; I just knew I wanted to help people. From a young age, I knew that my parents worked hard so that my siblings and I might have a better life than my parents. Both of my parents came from Vietnam with little to nothing. They both got jobs at Excel before they were twenty, and, after ten years, they met each other and got married. They and bought a motel and restaurant, and managed that for another ten years. They were

Both of my parents came from conservative backgrounds raised by grandparents who worked to give them better opportunities much like they did for me, my grandparents, however, didn't attend college. For these reasons and struggles, my parents raised me to appreciate hard work. I work at my family business of my mother and father. I do things for the benefit of the family firm so that we all prosper even if it inconveniences me. All for the greater good of the family, I never complain and even try to do more. This positive mentality will be important as an adult in college and the workplace because I can’t become successful by wallowing in self pity because my circumstances have made a few waves ahead of where I’m sailing
As I got an invitation to go to open gym with my friends, my main thoughts were, “I hope I can get some new skills tonight.” Little did I know, my thoughts about four hours later would be, “I have never been so upset, angry, or disappointed in my life.” As I walked into the cold, noisy gym, I was prepared to achieve my round off back handspring back tuck. I assured myself that I would be able to do it successfully. I wished that the ground was as soft and comforting as the dark trampoline with orange and blue bumpers. Seeing girls doing back walkovers on the thin, beige, four- inch beam, swinging their bodies around the slippery, uneven bars, and flipping themselves into the sky blue, squishy mat made me tell myself, “If they can do that,
