How would you help others in need? There would be no one trying to help one another and you were the only one that wanted to help everyone else. What if everyone you knew were getting hurt all the time and were always fighting for no real reason what would you say to try to help them get back on their feet? If you were the one that everybody dependent on what would you tell them to try to solve their problems? Most people don’t know what to do in these sorts of situations. Therefore they look for help or stay in their comfort zone and stay quite as long as they can or solve their own problems. Suicides are one of the most prevalent deaths that occur across the world. Suicidal cases have been examined by philosophers, scholars and researchers since decades (Bertolote, 2000). Majority of the suicidal cases reflect stress, fear of losing reputation and disbelief and anger as reasons. As hard it is to counsel the patients with suicidal tendencies, it is equally hard to prevent them (Bertolote, 2000). It is recorded that suicides are the tenth major causes for death in United States and it increased to 12% from the period 2000-2009 (Schmitz, et al., 2012). The biggest irony in the case of suicides is the people who save our lives i.e. doctors are more prone to suicides. Amongst the doctors who commit suicides, Dentists

In our day and age, even after the Supreme Court’s ruling over same-sex marriage, those who identify themselves as lesbians, gays, and bisexual remain targets of humiliation and abuse. For adolescents and young adults, suicide is the third leading cause of death (Hatzenbuehler, 2011, p. 896). It is of particular concern to understand the causes and risk factors that lead to suicide attempts so that we may better prevent such circumstances in the future, and better plan interventions. The article “The Social Environment and Suicide Attempts in Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Youth” discusses how previous studies have showed that lesbians, gays, and bisexual (LGB) individuals are increasingly at risk for suicide attempts, when compared with heterosexual
People have been committing suicide since the beginning of time. A suicide attempt, is a non-fatal, self directed, potentially harmful behavior, with any intent to die as a result.. A suicide attempt may or may not result in personal or physical harm. Suicidal ideation is an individual having ideas and considering or planning to end his or her life. Suicide is usually carried out as a result of ultimate despair due to certain mental disorders such as severe depression, schizophrenia, borderline and bipolar personality disorders, alcoholism and or drug abuse. High stress levels and anxiety due to financial difficulties and personal relationships can also be contributing factors of suicide. According to The National Institute of Mental Health, research has shown that the majority of victims of deaths by suicide had been diagnosed with some type of depressive mental illness. Suicide and suicide attempts have a dramatic impact and take an enormous toll on society. According to recent studies by the CDC, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death among Americans. The American people are living longer with advances to medical care and technology, yet suicide rates continue to rise. According to the CDC, suicide rates have increased by 24% from the year 1999 to 2014 (Curtain, Warner & Hedegaard, 2016). Consequently, the suicide epidemic continues to grow with no clear path to prevention. This literature review was conducted using the Robert Morris University Library online databases.
