In order to be sure that he kept power and the prophecy did not come true, Cronus attempted to escape fate by swallowing each child as soon as it was born. He ate his kids when they were first born one bye one but Only 1 kid remained. So he ate his kids so he can be king but he ate a rock in baby clothes and still had one son somewhere.
