An immeasurable amount of insight and knowledge can be gained from the study of literature which contributes in providing readers with an understanding of the past, and a philosophical assimilation of the moral behind a writing piece.
Literature; it has compelled us, entertained us, educated us, and drove us to madness. It has served as life instruction, by using the characters as the lesson plan. It is sometimes blunt, sometimes ugly, and in Truman Capote’s case, is so gruesome that we do not dare forget it.
The populations are being portrayed as people who will fill their lives with superficial things to make them happy. This implies that the people who do not value literature also do not desire to learn about what really matters, such as classic works. Salter’s techniques to defend that popular culture is the cause of a disaster in literature are not effective to his
Violence has become a major social disturbance that is continuously on the rise to become more common within the media. There are different forms and examples of exemplary and classic literature which have been deemed as significant works that are highly esteemed worldwide. These examples of literature would awe the world with how much literary skill they entailed when they were composed and written: attention to details as to formation of characters, the most crafty of plots, the most eloquent speeches and lines, the most astounding of twists of scenes, and most of all, the most universal and meaningful of themes. The theme of any literary work is what makes it great as it should be able to encompass the immense diversity of the world and as it would be able to transcend the boundaries of religion, age, race, gender, etc. Two examples of this great and
As the era of literature slowly declines, the expert critiques and praise for literature are lost. Previously, novels were bursting at the seams with metaphors, symbolism, and themes. In current times, “novels” are simply short stories that have been elaborated on with basic plot elements that attempt to make the story more interesting. Instead of having expert critical analysis written about them, they will, most likely, never see that, as recent novels have nothing to analyze. Even books are beginning to collect dust, hidden away and forgotten, attributing to the rise of companies such as Spark Notes. An author deserves to have his work praised, no matter how meager and the masses should have the right to embrace it or to reject it. As
The work of fiction delves readers into an environment that may appear foreign to us. The underlying mystery of the story, is a pull as a device to keep our fingers eagerly turning the pages. The difference between fiction and non-fiction is just an illusion. The reality is – fiction at its best can capture people beyond merely reading is covering up the hard truth of non-fiction. Truths are revealed about our society, reality, and human conditioning. The mystery is solved by playing with the readers emotions, leading them to take a different perspective on the view of the world. Fictional works are falsehoods, that reveal truths in a more eloquent fashion rather than non-fiction, by exposing corruption and imperfections of the real world, such as issues of Nazism – represented in three separate novels. In The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, demonstrates the ways in which modern society instills in people – students, are capable of violence, predisposition, and corruptions, same problems that made Nazism feasible. This poem has a deap meaning about out society and how we indivaduals are so influnced by it. Eventually, society corruptes our purity and made us crumble until everything falled apart. In this world, literature is used and seen in many different forms, and through this forms we see profound effects in their time and even after that. We can see how literature influences modern society, and how most of the ideas were spread through some kind of literature form. We see the spark of cultural change through influential works of literature, and these works take the forms of writings, movies, or songs. These forms go on to change the core of culture, so we can see a different world every time. It causes us to be very manipulated by the message it spreads out. Literature does spark cultural change using influential works like the Bible, or the song ‘Fireworks’ by Katy perry and even poems like ‘Still I Rise’ by Maya Angelou. These kinds of influntial works tend to spark cultural change throught inspiration and knowledge.
Throughout the span of recorded human history, there are countless works of literature written by authors who engraved their thoughts and feelings on paper, hoping to impact the world through the art of writing. While time cast many of these works into the forgotten abyss of irrelevance, a select few pieces of literature managed to stand the test of time, becoming “great books.” Highly regarded by modern literary critics, these lasting pieces form the benchmark in the study of literature. However, an important question must be raised when discussing these “great books.” What makes a book “great,” that is, what qualities of a piece of literature make it significant to modern societies
Indeed, the best works of literature are those which are of relevance to our lives today. Through their relevance, these novels continue to persist and endure on. Through their relevance, we can better comprehend the messages, the themes, and the ideas that are imbued in them. Rather than literature being contradictory and in conflict with the truth and unpleasant reality of daily life, it becomes a weapon through which we can be educated about the existential crises facing our world today. In fact, the statement above could not be more far and distant from the reality of literature today. It is fatally flawed. Literature, whilst at the surface, seems whimsical and amusing is, at its very core, a medium through which we are enlightened

Reading any piece of literatures is always supposed to reflect this or that type of social account: be that of present or past or future time or with blending of all. For the reason, Tyson writes, “A better understanding of the world in which we live, it seems to me, automatically comes along the ride when we study literature… (xii), and then cements the feeling that studying literature is a most enjoyable way of accessing the world. Winch argues that the interrelation between history, philosophy, literature and social theory is vital to a better understanding of our social worlds (Winch 1990); and he well supports the feeling as Tyson regards over literature as to be the mirror to reflect society in part or whole. So feel the literary figures and expose society from various angles through literatures.
