Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always dreamed about working in the field of law. Growing up my favorite TV shows were and still is “The First 48” and “Criminal Minds”. Both shows portray investigating, administration, and problem-solving, which are three components I will be assisting in my career. The last three years I’ve attended Tennessee State University, I’ve came to the conclusion that my major being “Criminal Justice” is meant for my life. Of course Criminal Justice is a broad topic with various occupations and skills you’ll have to select and understand. The list of duties, responsibilities, salary, employment change & outlook in the next year, unemployment rate, and education in the field are essentials one needs to be successful

After taking career assessments including the “Myers Briggs Type Indicator” which have helped me explore my career options from my personality, I have come to the conclusions with a family lawyer. It was hard to believe that some quiz was going to help me find a career that I would actually take an interest in up until I actually read the results. I had difficulty choosing just one. My options varied from ‘dentist’ to ‘cook’ but lawyer really caught my attention. Lawyers must be creative while problem solving and persistent which are two qualities I would say I have. A lawyer is the the perfect job because it requires
If I could take any of my passions and turn it into a job I would make a non-profit organization for Criminal Justice. This organization would help people who don’t have a fair trial or they need help with the law without having to pay for everything. Getting a layer can be very expensive and some people cannot afford that, so therefore they have a large disadvantage in the court case. This job would solely be based off of donations and it would help provide jobs for people in the community. In this organization I would make sure that there would be no racial discrimination because that is often a factor in why some people get sent to jail, for their color. Sixty seven percent of the jail population is people who are colored.

Although, defense attorneys are advocates for the accused, prosecutors represent the people, and the state attorney general is the chief legal officer of the state, all of these attorneys have played critical roles in the criminal justice system. Although, quite unsure of what area of law I would like to practice, I know I will be a great attorney because I will go above and beyond the call of duty to be an advocate against the wronged and serve my community
It is important to have a good defense attorney as their job is to advocate for the client and protect his or her right to due process. As the highest court of the land, U.S. Supreme Court should set standards to define a good defense attorney. They should be able to set some general effective and achievable standards. The defendant’s guilt or innocence should rely heavily on our criminal justice system as a whole and not just to one’s lawyer. Without a good system, any person standing out will not fixed the problems. Agreeing to a certain point regarding the sentiment that the criminal justice system treats people with money who can afford a high-quality attorney differently from those that rely on a public defender. I love the thought of being the first person to get the children started with their education by helping them along the way with fun filled classroom activities and games.

The career I have chosen is to become a lawyer, in either a private practice or firm, or for the government. The definition of a lawyer is an advocate or advisor in society, that is as an advocate, to represent one of the opposing parties in a criminal or civil trial, and as an advisor to counsel clients as to their legal rights and suggest courses of action. But that is not all a lawyer is about. Being a lawyer takes hard work, dedication, and many years in school.
I want to be a lawyer, because I would like to help people who cannot defend for themselves, and I would like to learn how the law work as an attorney, counsel, or solicitor, and its responsibilities I would have to take in order to have become a successful lawyer.
