I have decided to apply for a variety of single and joint honours courses with the main subject area being criminology. My very first interest for criminology was triggered by TV crime shows such as CSI. Crime is one of the main problems society is facing today and I have been troubled by many questions for example are criminals born or made? Why black people are more likely to get stop and searched than white people? Why do people commit crime? These are some of the questions that grab my attention and show how difficult it is to define crime and the reasons behind it and how we can prevent crime for happening. I studied GCSE Sociology and I specifically enjoyed the topic Crime and Deviance. I am currently studying BTEC Law, A-levels English Language and Communication and Culture. English A-level has helped me with my writing skills for example writing timed essays. It has also taught me analytical skills and expanded my vocabulary knowledge. Communication and Culture has helped me to improve my time management especially when writing coursework, and it has also improved my team work skills as I had to work and interact with other students. Last year I studied Religious Studies which has taught me to be independent in my work as it required me to do my own research, however it also taught me to look at things from other perspectives and not to be bias but to be open minded, which has benefited me in my everyday life. Studying law has stimulated me to learn more about criminal law which has inspired me to study criminology. During secondary school, I visited the Old Bailey, I had the privilege to sit in the court room and listen to a real life case. This was a good experience as I saw how the law works in practice and how the British legal system
