Positivist school: The beliefs of this school are that human behavior is determined by forces beyond individual control and it is possible to measure those forces, those forces include biological, psychological and socials factors which are the factors in driving an individual’s behavior.
This is important to our studies because it challenged the line of thinking in classical school which suggested that individuals are able to rationally weigh consequences for their actions and decide to commit crime when the pleasure is greater than pain. However in positivist line of thinking that's not the case. A scientific approach is taken and suggest that biology, psychology and social factors influence an individual's behavior.

Classical school: The teachings of the school are based on the assumption that individuals choose to commit crimes after weighing the consequences of their actions.
This is important to our studies because this is the first, traditional perception of criminology. This line of thinking promotes the idea that individuals have free will and have the ability to evaluate the consequences by controlling the behavior based on pain vs pleasure of the criminal gains. As seen from other lines of thinking this is not a common thought process of criminals in today’s society.

Cesare Lombroso: An Italian who lived during the 1800’s whom integrated many studies related to crimes regarding the body, some of these include Comte’s positivism and Darwin’s evolutionism.
