America prides itself in the freedom offered to her citizens, the promise of prosperity, protection, and justice. She has laws in place for the common good, police to ensure that her people are safe and not hurting each other. There are courts for those that are accused of breaking the law, and justice is served here. Or is it? Some of society believes that the criminal justice system is unjust towards men of African decent. It is. The polices and practices of the criminal justice system have unfairly targeted African Americans which is far from the picture America paints of herself. Looking at the topic of unfairness in the criminal justice system, three questions came to mind: What does society consider unfair in the justice system? 223). It was among the community sample (the individuals who had no experience with the criminal justice system) that voiced the difference in expectation (Woolard, Harvell, & Graham, 2005, p. 222) . The anticipatory injustice in the group with criminal justice experience did not show significant differences across races, however (Woolard et al., 2005, p. 222). With African Americans, older adolescents expected greater injustice and more punishment than their younger counterparts (Woolard et al., 2005, p. 221). This must mean that blacks see injustice as they grow up and develop this negative view of the criminal justice system. Woolard, Harvell, and Graham’s study points to the beginning of the unfairness view which helps answer my question of why blacks are seen as treated unfairly. It starts at a young age in African Americans and grows with experience and observation of the criminal justice
