Criminal Justice Opportunities

When I first started college, my academic goals were to learn as much as possible, join a Christian fellowship, get into the criminal justice program, decide whether or not to go to graduate school, and to graduate in four years. In addition, to also to either get a job or get accepted into an internship. My overall goal was to enjoy and make the most out of my college experience. My career goals back when I was a freshman, were to figure out if I want to join law enforcement or go to law school and find a job in the field of criminal justice, while being happy working the job. Over the course of two years, some of those goals have been achieved and some goals have been changed.

The overall Criminal Justice program at Trinity University helps students discover their own strengths and abilities, expand one’s critical thinking skills, master the three major components of the Criminal Justice system, learn and analyze current issues affecting the Criminal Justice system, apply theories to real-life situations, emphasize the importance of laws and sanctions for violating those laws, understand the process of rehabilitation and its efforts, and in the end prepare students for a successful career within the Criminal Justice field. The program is built on a strong foundation of social science, are combined courses with sociology and psychology, and theories of the outcomes of crime and criminal behavior. Trinity University

The purpose and intention of the research is to determine whether having a criminal justice degree benefit those that graduate within that field. In addition, future criminal justice graduates will have a sense of where their career path will lead to. Experts also examine if having a criminal justice degree is necessary for individuals to become police officers, correctional officers, or probation and parole officers. This research was published by the International journal of Criminal Justice Sciences in December of 2013. Criminal justice administration mainly focuses on crime prevention and punishing any illegal activities. Criminal justice administration is wide and it entails law enforcement and the judicial administration. Some of the jobs that relate to criminal justice administration include; security coordination, juvenile delinquency administration, law enforcement and being a courtroom official. Additional crime is also part of criminal justice administration. This field entails terrorism prevention, immigration policies and social policies. Other duties that criminal justice entails include; police officer, community relations advocate and correctional officer. For an officer working with the criminal justice administration, his work involves law enforcement (Bharti, 2008).

Criminal justice practitioners are necessary for a civilized society. Without those who form boundaries to our freedom, and the ones that reinforce those laws, our community would be chaos. Some of the main social issues our society faces are drug abuse, gang violence, child abuse, and terrorism. The criminal justice practitioners face these types of issues daily. These professionals must act on the morals and laws stated by society rather than their own opinions, sometimes facing hard decisions. The criminal justice field is always active and busy, dealing with countless amount of criminal activity throughout the country.

The importance of analytics and the other requirements on education, info-gathering techniques, and the issues are more complex for criminal justice administrators. For the “new criminal justice” employee, commitment and dedication become questioned, and a career orientation will no longer seem realistic (Rainey 2004). The new criminal justice might be the beginning of the end of appeals to traditional hierarchy as the method of structuring criminal justice organizations. This is a great example of collaboration, Klofas and colleagues (2010) identify the efforts of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) as an example of a community strategy to enlist the assistance and support of many public and private agencies to address serious gun-related crime (Criminal Justice Organizations: Administration and Management). In the new criminal justice technology is one of the main and important parts of it as well.

I am currently a senior this year and will be graduating at the end of May with the Class of 2016. I will be attending Dixie State University this Fall 2016. My intended major is Criminal Justice with emphasis in Corrections. I have always been interested in the Criminal Justice system, the way they use evidence to solve hard cases and how much Criminal Justice can make a difference to society. I also want to take that knowledge and bring it back to my community to help improve the Criminal Justice system on the Navajo Reservation including other neighboring different tribes. Criminal justice field is growing every day. It grows with the help of technology and society. When the technology evolves and society grows the criminal justice has to evolve and grow to fit the society needs. Whether it is an easy or hard change the criminal justice system never fails us. With any state the criminal justice system is to protect and serve the community so the more it evolves the more the system has to. Law enforcement is a career that is both violent and rewarding in many capacities. Justice needs to be served in law enforcement and they have a responsibility to uphold the law and serve the people in the community. Law enforcement is crucial in the world today as a global realm as life continues to be more complex and law enforcement struggles to combat many aspects of crime. In order to combat these problems and have a positive future in the criminal justice system, everyone must work together on a bigger scale.

There will always be a fight for justice, and where there is crime there are those who must solve them. I wish to pursue a career in the criminal justice industry, mainly working as a forensic science criminalist. Those who use scientific logic and evidence found at the scene of the crime to solve the case, The heroes who don’t wear the labcoats instead of the black and blues. Heroes like these need certain skills, interests, and values that make them an official criminalist.

I have decided to take this summer course in Criminal Justice because I’ve always has a strong interest in the subject. My interest in the criminal justice field began when I was about eight years old. This interest stemmed from my strong liking of the television show, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The show made me want to have a career in the criminal justice field. As I’ve aged, my desire of having a career in the criminal justice field has decreased, yet,

I’m currently achieving my long term educational goal which is obtaining my Associates in Art Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. I began as a part-time student for my first two semesters and continued as a full-time student. Law enforcement is at the top of my list for my career goals in which I plan to apply once I’ve earned my BA. My interest for Criminal Justice started to grow when I learned what career meant and watching my mother who works for the State of Florida Department of Corrections and my godfather who was enrolled in Coast Guard and continue his career in law enforcement.

Law enforcement like much of the economy and society has had to adapt to the rapidly changing Atmosphere of the technological advances. To counter these advances, education has served in the forefront to combating the technological sophistication that is rapidly sweeping the workforce. The need and desire to remain competitive with the technology that we have is a need that can be satisfied with more education. Much like technology, education has benefits elsewhere in the equation of remaining competitive. Gathering data and researching material is very important within the criminal justice system. No matter what profession one may have within the judicial system, researching information is something that has to be done at one time or another.
