Behind the Scenes How do people create a story? Where does their creativity come from? A writer uses their personal life to create brilliant stories. Marry Shelley was around 19 years old when she created Frankenstein : the Modern Prometheus. Although the story is about a brilliant scientist creating a monster, Marry's personal life was spread through out the entire book. Mary was able to finish the book in May 1817 and published it in January . Her classic tale of fiction began in a summer mansion. "The tale began to shape in 1816 as a result of ghost story telling sessions held among Mary;her husband British poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and the self exiled British poet George Gordon,

Victor Frankenstein was obsessed with science and the idea of creating new life. "On this occasion a man of great research in natural philosophy was with us, and excited by this catastrophe, he entered on the explanation of a theory which he had formed on the subject of electricity and gal- vanism, which was at once new and astonishing to me." (Shelley.37) For many years, he isolated himself from family and dear loved ones to focus on his studies. Science was a very important role in Victor's life. Like Mary, science and philosophy played a key role in his life. The same idea of lightening coursing through our bodies, giving us life is what helped Mary with the idea of creating the monster and reviving his body with electricity. He is successful and is able to create a living creation out of corpses, theirs many reasons as to why the book is so tied into Mary . Victor isolates himself for a majority of his life. In the end of the novel, the Monster, wants to stay away from. Humanity and lived to the icy cold Arctic to be alone and …show more content…
Just like the Monster, she believed that all she ever did was destroy those who are close to her. In the story, you see that many deaths occur due to the violence of the Monster. Mary believed that all she ever did was hurt, the people that were close to her. The Monster hurts the people that Victor loved and cared for the most. He hurts the people who are closest to his creator. His first victim, is Victor's youngest brother who he murders after discovering he was a Frankenstein. Then filled with anger and revenges, he planted William's necklace onto Justine,a family friend of a Victor's. She was then put on trial and found guilty. Victor was crushed when they had her executed, he knew she did not kill Henry. Later on the Monster finds Victor, and confesses what he had done. He says he wants to leave to South America but first he had a request. The monster wants a companion and convinces Victor to make a she- monster. He begins to at first and then realizes all the horrible trouble that can be caused by two monsters. He dismantles her body and tosses it into the lake. This causes the Monster to be furious and stares he will seek revenge one way or another. On the night of his marriage to Elizabeth, his forever love, the Monster murders her, showing that if he can't have a love, then neither will Victor. He also kills victors best friend Henry. Victor is left all alone, and has so many people close to his heart die.
Victor Frankenstein finds himself exploring the world of science where “it was the secret of heaven and earth… the outward substance of things or the inner spirits of nature and the mysterious soul of man” that attracted him (Shelley 18). Victor thirst for knowledge comes from his study of chemistry with a zeal for the antiquated world of alchemy. It was the alchemy books that convinces him to go beyond what the normal human limits can do, that is, the answer to life. Through the books he thrives on learning about natural science and looked upon the alchemists works and “took their word for all that they averred, and became their disciple” (Shelley 25). His readings direct him toward the study of forbidden knowledge which ultimately set him up for failure as he became addicted to create life to the point where he robbed graveyards for limbs and committing many unholy acts to create his monster. His unchecked ambition proves to have devastating consequences as his irresponsibility causes the death of those he loves most and he himself falls under the ascendancy of his own
He was a robust and sustainable kid during his schooling, but once he created his monster, it was all down-hill. He spent days, even years without contact to the outside world and stayed isolated from his family. When Henry came to his assistance the first time, Victor gradually became better and started to write letters back to his family. His father then wrote to him and said that Victor’s brother, William, was murdered. Again, Victor entered a state of depression and anger.
Over the course of Victor’s life time, he loses everyone he loves and cares about because of his creation. Victor decides to track down the monster, which leaves clues leading to the North Pole. Victor runs into a ship captain and tells him the story. As they both continue to look, Victor becomes very sick and eventually dies. One night the ship captain, Robert Walton, hears noises from the room where Victor’s body lays. When he walks in, he sees the monster weeping over the body. The monster tells Mr. Walton how regretful he is and that he has nothing to do now and his life was over. After that he ran off into the cold, darkness and was never heard from again. The puzzle of the story is what was going through Victor’s head through all
His father tells him that he needs to come home as soon as possible because the death of his brother William. When Victor gets back home, he is locked out of his town. He then sees a figure from far away. It turned out to be the monster. At this point Victor ends up having to come across another quest.
Victor goes to England to create the monster’s mate, taking Henry with him. When he is almost done making his second creation, the monster comes to claim her only to find Victor destroying it. The monster vows to take revenge on Victor’s wedding night and goes and immediately kills Henry. Victor is accused and eventually acquitted and returns home where he married Elizabeth, who the monster kills on their wedding night. Victor begins following the monster to get his revenge and had chased him to the North Pole where Walton finds him. He dies while on Walton’s ship and the monster feels responsible for his death. The monster vows to kill himself and then disappears onto the ice.
Victor had failed to protect his monster from everyone, including Victor. Victor would spend all of the monster’s life neglecting him. Victor failed to love his own creation, the monster knew that deep down. The monster just wanted Victor’s love, so the monster went and did things that were not right. The monster framed many people and almost led Victor into depression.
His passing truly destroyed Victor into pieces both physically and mentally, which is why the monster wants him to feel the true pain of being alone. Furthermore, his life would fall into even more because of his reckless actions towards his creation. Near the end of the book, Victor is frustrated about the threat that the monster said about how it would be with him on his wedding day. These words made him carry a pistol and a knife around his honeymoon trip with Elizabeth in Lake Como, waiting for the night to search for the monster. However, only a few minutes later he heard a scream which made him run back to their cottage.
Rather than just killing Victor, however, the monster decides to kill his loved ones. The death of a potential companion in the world incites the monster to create even more death.
Victor, after being convinced to create a female companion for the monster, realizes that this will only create double the amount of destruction, he then makes the choice to discontinue his project to prevent more devastation. Instead of less damage resulting from this choice it only brings more harm to his life and everyone around him. First, his good friend Henry Clerval is murdered by the beast and Victor is accused of this murder, “The human frame could no longer support the agonies that I endured, and I was carried out of the room in strong convulsions.” (Shelley 129). This was Victor’s reaction upon seeing Henry’s corpse and demonstrates how deeply his pursuit for knowledge affects him. Even though he is later released on circumstantial evidence, he will be scarred for life knowing that he responsible for yet another death. Given that Victor destroyed the monster’s only hope of having someone else like him in the world; the monster swears revenge and that he will return on Victor’s wedding night. Victor misinterpreted this warning and instead of the monster attacking Victor, his creation attacked and
Then his creation all suddenly turns on Victor killing everything he is dear too in the name of vengeance. The monster eventually murders three people in cold blood as well as one indirectly. First Williams’s brother who is accidently strangled to death. With the death of William the monster framed the servant Justine by placing a picture of William in her pocket. Justin was then executed for the unjust murder of William. Sadly Elizabeth, Frankenstein’s cousin and new wife on the wedding night. He also kills a good friend of Frankenstein’s Henry Clerval. The deaths of these innocent people were a result of the monsters revenge on Victor. The monster is seeking this revenge on the doctor because he did not want to be brought into this world especially looking like he did. Another key point that this book beings forth is why human beings should not try to play God and artificially create a being in a laboratory. When Victor creates a bride for the monster he decides to kill her before the monster can have a companion. Victor can’t give the monster what he wants not after what the monster did to his family.
That is when they made an agreement, the monster will stay far way from Victor and his family as long as possible, but he has to make another creature as the monster’s wife. Victor, who at first agreed with the deal, later realizes that it could be dangerous if there is more than one monster in this world. He broke his promise which makes the monster angry. It promised to come on his wedding night. After that, the monster killed Henry Clarvel, Victor’s best friend. Victor was not only sad mentally, but he also sick physically because of his sadness. When he started to recover, he marries Elizabeth, but then again, the monster killed Elizabeth in her wedding night. Victor’s father who cannot stand the sadness anymore passed away. These people’s deaths have cause a lot of changes in Victor’s feeling. Victor, who at first afraid of the monster, become more brave to kill the monster by his own hand. That is why he decided to go and find the monster. The story ended with Victor’s death because of his age and tiredness after chasing the monster anywhere. The monster who actually doesn’t have any purpose anymore since Victor passed away, decided to commit suicide by burning itself in the Arctic. So, this story is dominated by the Life-Death events which remark every important and major steps of the story. Victor’s obsession of making living thing, his mixed feelings, his chase-the-monster journey, and the tragedy in his love life, it all starts because of his family member’s
XXIII). The reason Victor went to search for the monster is because he thought that they were going to get into a fight. Even though Victor thought that the monster wanted him, he actually wanted to kill Elizabeth and get revenge on Victor. Victor left the monster and did not want to have responsibilities for him whenever he was younger. Victor did not approve of what the monster was doing and he could not stop him because the monster was bigger and stronger than he
I am sure that the monstrous being will destroy the loved ones of its creator, because it realizes that it is rejected by its horrible aspect. The revenge of the monster is to kill what Victor, his beloved people, wants to kill, and it is for this reason that he goes after him to places so distant, cold, with the fixed idea of ending the life of the monster forever.
Victor had a friend named Henry. After a friendless monster killed him, Victor, then became friendless too. “I saw the lifeless form of Henry Clerval stretched before me.” (Shelly 223) The monster killed Henry because Victor promises to make the monster a partner. At the last moment, Victor decided to not finish the partner. Then Victor destroys the partner and the monster gets really mad. After you read that part of the story you should always keep in mind to always keep your promise. If you don't something bad might happen. Henry was the only main friend to take care of Victor when he got sick. He was his family when his main family was absent. The next paragraph is going to connect with Catherine losing her friend Isabella but, it is not as painful as Victor.
The monster 's appearance causes his creator to abandon him and prevents him from normal human interaction. He is forced to learn about the world on his own and spends most of his time watching others. Frankenstein is not the only one negatively affected by his existence. In the process of bringing the monster to life, Victor had deprived himself of rest and health, causing him to fall ill for several months. Shortly after his recovery, Victor learns his younger brother has been murdered. Frankenstein has killed his creator’s brother and framed an innocent girl to get back at Victor for abandoning him. After the girl is executed, Victor becomes consumed with guilt knowing he is responsible for two of his family members deaths. The monster does not stop there, he goes on to kill Victor’s friend Henry and fiance, Elizabeth. Because of his creation, Victor is haunted by depression and guilt for most of his life and died a lonely death hunting Frankenstein.
