I Refuse To Be Enslaved
Jane Austen wrote in book Mansfield Park that if you "give a girl an education and introduce her properly into the world, and ten to one but she has the means of settling well, without further expense to anybody."I want to receive a college education in order to fulfill a bright future for me, become independent, and to overcoming the barriers which have defeated other females around me.The greatest thing I have learned from the females in the world around me is that without education our minds become enslaved to mediocrity, inferiority, and even insecurity.
Earning a college degree will allow me to explore not only higher fields of academics but also to ultimately realize the full potential of my capabilities as an individual. Coming from a first generational point of view college is a privilege that was not made available to my mother and other loved ones around me. I often listen to elders talk about how much they wished that they had received a college education and how better things would be if they had the same privilege of education that I do. Women in today's world already feel insecure about themselves due to the outrageous standard set by society, media, and culture so lack of education makes it worse. I have seen females with brilliant mind and intense potential fall prey to insecurity because of lack of higher education. The females in my who were able to reach for higher education were exposed to having high dependency on others which caused to think less of themselves and wonder what their lives would have been like if they were more
