Creating High Quality Experiences for Young Children

In order for children to receive high-quality early child care and education depends on the teachers and the environment. The environment needs to be developmentally appropriate for children. It should have interest areas for the children so they can develop their physical, social-emotion, language, and cognitive development. Children that are in a high-quality care help parents stay in their employment. Children that get high-quality care stable child care engage more complex play, demonstrate more sure attachment to adults and other children, and they score higher on measure of thinking abilities and language development. If teacher have that warm sensitive, and responsive interaction with children it helps them develop security, positive sense of self, and encourages the child to respect and be cooperate with others. The second standard is Curriculum. The curriculum should be consistent for children’s goals and provide learning and development in their physical, social-emotional, language, and cognitive development. A curriculum helps the teachers to plan their daily schedule. It maximizes the child’s learning through effective use of materials, use of play, self-initiated learning, and creative expression. It offers the children the opportunity to learn as an individual or in group according to their interests and developmental needs. The third standard is Teaching. Teachers use developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate and effective teaching approaches that will enhance the child’s learning and development in the context of program curriculum goals. The teachers who use multiple techniques optimize the child’s opportunities for learning. The instructional approach creates a positive learning environment for children to develop in all areas. The fourth standard is Assessment of Child Progress. These assessments are ongoing systematic, formal, and informal assessment approaches to help provide information on child’s learning and
In today's society, early childhood education programs have become an almost expected first step in every child's life. Studies have shown that when children attend they children who attend a preschool program are exposed to numbers, letter, and shapes on a daily basis. They also begin to learn many life skills, like how to socialize, share and separate from their parents. These first steps of learning are so important that now forty states in the U.S. now offer state funded pre-k programs (Kanter, 2016). With some many different preschools and early childhood programs, how do parents know if the programs are being held to a certain standard? The Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) is one comprehensive assessment tool available. Using this tool while quietly observing a preschool classroom, will help to define areas of strength as well as areas needing to be strengthened. The scale has thirty five different areas that are divided into six subscales, that will be observed. Each question is yes or no answer to a specific question and example.

We know understand that to have a quality child care program, it must include high quality educational experiences. We understand that must include comprehensive services, family engagement, and collaboration as children transition across settings. Research clearly indicates that highly skilled and well-compensated teachers with specialized knowledge make a difference for child outcomes and program quality ( Martin, 1988). Childcare is the starting point in your children 's lives. The choices you make on childcare can affect them greatly. It is when they will begin to meet the friends that they will grow up with as they go through grade school. Children need this step in their lives to adjust from staying at home, to staying with other children in a completely different surrounding. There are so many different options for childcare now a days, it is extremely hard to say which is the most beneficial for children. In this paper I will discuss the childcare decisions that my mother made for me, what to consider when evaluating childcare, and compare them to some of my references and see how they are similar and also how they differ.
Michele Borba, an educational psychologist and parenting and child expert who is recognized for her practical, solution-based strategies to build strong families and strengthen children’s behavior and character. She says that, “High quality care in early years does affect children’s social, academic, and behavioral development. And those behavior and achievement differences, though small, were still evident more than a decade after parents stopped those day care payments”. Dr. Michele Borba also states that “Parents have far more influence on children’s growth and development than any type child care they receive”, based on a federally funded study by the Early Child Care Research Network; however, she agrees that high quality child care will improve a child’s development. The study showed, “Academic and behavior gains from child care that endured until age 15 were slightly higher when children were involved with ‘high quality child caregivers’. High quality is defined as “caregivers who are warm, supportive and provide high quality cognitive stimulation”. Here, Dr. Borba describes that the parent does have a larger influence on the child’s morals than the caregiver, but putting the child into these care centers will allow the children to thrive in academics. This early growth in education leads to a more developed child who will advance in learning. In a personal interview with Dr. Borba, she said that the quality of the daycare really makes a difference with the development of a child, but does not limit that “nothing beats the attachment of the child with a mother”. Dr. Borba continues to say that she did a report on Ann Curry's child care findings, saying “Impact continues 15 years later. Along with knowing the purpose of quality daycare/child care facilities, the next important factor is to be aware of what generates a high quality daycare/child care facility. It is vital to know the characteristics because these prime objectives are the driving forces influenced by what children need in order to succeed and grow in their developmental skills. Fundamentally, “High quality [preschool] education can support early development in ways that yield long term social, cognitive and emotional benefits” (Barnett 2005, p1). Children dont have to go to a legit child care facility to get an early education. Early childhood education comes in many forms most of the learning starts at home. “Playing with your child helps keep your child engaged in the kind of play where learning occurs. Your interest, questions, and comments as you play alongside will help your child use toys productively,”(How to Support Children’s Approaches to Learning?). In saying that children learn best through play based experiences they learn from things they experience or items they can touch and hold. Children learn from the comments thier parents give, they pick up on the little things. Children who don’t participate in some type of quality education programs are 50 percent more likely to be placed in special education. Children are also 25 percent more like to dropout of school and are 60 percent more likely to never attend college. 40 percent are more likely to become teen parents ,and finally 70 percent more likely to become a teen parent.

Relatives and the parents are the environment and first set of people that newborn and children have contact and interact with. They learn first few things from siblings and caregiver. Most times, due to the economic situation of the family, children spend less time with parents due to education or employment. Most times, children are raised by relative or caregiver because parents have to work. Child development starts from when their cognitive skills are developed. Time spent by caregivers and Parents and their literacy level are important in early child development. Belsky et al.(2007) research on effect of early child care on children’s showed that parenting was a stronger and more consistent predictor of children’s development than early childcare experience while higher quality care predicted higher vocabulary scores. According to Susanna et al. (2004), Children display stronger social development when providers have education beyond high school. Children with high literate guardian are more likely to participate in children's home literacy activities. Magnuson and Waldfogel , (2005) stated that Children who attend center care or preschool programs enter school more ready to learn, but both the share of children enrolled in these programs and the quality of care they receive differ
Not only does early education bring the benefit of interaction, it also lets the child feel loved and have trust in others. If a child is encountered with early programs then they are able to meet the needs of their child stage life. If these needs are not properly met, then they may become less successful in their performance in an educational environment.
