Introduction:
The Explore and Crawl TM Learning Cub is a developmental toy designed by Vtech. It is recommended for ages six to thirty-six months. Essentially, this toy is an interactive bear that encourages infants to crawl as it moves across the floor. The bear has a heart-shaped button that when pushed it will begin to crawl away; while saying fun and encouraging phrases. This learning toy, also features over fifty songs, melodies, sounds and phrases. In addition, the toy teaches colors, shapes and gross motor skill; which are vital for a child’s physical, cognitive and social development.
Physical Development:
A child’s physical development is highly important during their first two years. During the biosocial stage infants develop gross
The expected pattern starts at 0-3 years where a child is expected to develop the most. They have little control over their bodies at 0-1 years and are dependent on their natural instincts eg: sucking, grasping.
A child develops through its whole life. They can develop; physically, linguistically, intellectually, socially and behaviourally. “Physical development is the way in which the body increases in skill and becomes more complex in its performance” [Meggitt, 2000, Page 2]. Twenty five days after conception; the body of the chid has developed immensely from the small fertilised egg. Up to birth the foetus mainly develops physically however once the child is born the child then begins the long process of development. Not only do the gross motor skills and the fine motor skills develop on the baby, but the sensory development also widens on the child.
All babies and young children can show different rates of development. It is often linked to experiences during conception, pregnancy and childbirth.
Each child’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual and language development will be looked at through age stages. All of these categories are as important as each other and can each have a substantial impact on the child’s full adult potential.
The learning opportunities will advance as the child acquires knowledge through sensory experiences and manipulating objects while interacting with the plush puppy as they grow. The puppy is labeled with various body parts to help with hand, tummy, belly and foot recognition There is a cause and effect learning experience as the child associates the squeezing of the hand which in turn will initiate a response from the puppy. The squeezing technique the toy requires to further the child’s learning is also working on fine and gross motor development throughout the use of the toy.
In the eyes of new loving parents, babies are perfect in every way. Perhaps, mothers and fathers count fingers and toes of their new baby, carefully inspecting their child for any deformities. After finding all body parts in just the right place, and hearing the beautiful sound of the baby’s first cry, parents deem babies perfectly healthy in every way. But there could be something lying beneath the physical appearance that could be harmful to the new baby.
All children develop at different rates, information and sources are only guidelines. These help to monitor what children can and can't do at certain stages in their lives. It also helps to plan effectively to ensure the child gets the attention they need, in the areas in which they find challenging. Physical development follows a definite sequence. A baby's physical development may begin with rolling over then sit up, crawl, walk, run. Another may sit up, walk, run missing out rolling over & crawling. Even
There are many factors that can influence the development of infants and toddlers. Two of the largest are biological and environmental influences. Biological influences can include gender, prenatal care, and the mother’s prior states of health. Environmental influences are widely ranged and can include, but are not limited to, income, housing, teratogens, and stimuli. While these two influences are different, they sometimes interlock, creating a cycle within each other.
Infants are a special cohort of a population in the society. Children between the ages of five months to two years are at a stage where they start familiarizing with their surroundings and have different reactions to situations. The surrounding where an infant grows greatly determines his or her development. The primary determinant of the development of infants is the parent-infant interaction (Crain, 2015). The first bond or relation of a child is with its biological parents or guardians in the case of orphaned children.
The development of a child in the first year of life is extremely intense; in just 52 weeks’ an infant goes through major physical, cognitive and social and emotional developments.
Children have a lot of factors that influence their physical changes. For example, after preschool years children start to lose their baby teeth, and the skeleton begins to grow. During the preschool years, when the children grow slower than

Infancy is far from what some have assumed – a time for rigidly and mechanically handling the baby because he seems to have so little capability as an adapting human being. The following developmental tasks are to be accomplished in infancy:
“As infants grows older, they form close and enduring emotional attachments with the important people in their lives”. Reference 1. This essay will discuss the developmental period of infancy. Infancy is categorised as the development stage of a human from birth to 2 years of age. Infancy is a time in the human life that involves rapid growth and extraordinary changes in the first two years of life. Infants not only grow dramatically physically, their brains develop, and there is the start of locomotor skill development as well as the start of reflexes and sensory growth. The essay will also discuss anxiety and the role it plays with infants in regards to physical, cognitive and psychosocial stages an infant experiences. This essay will argue that the attachment of an infant to its mother is highly important. It will discuss the different way in which attachment affects an infant. This essay will discuss typical development milsetones in the first year years of human life. It will then go to analysis the relationship between infants being in day care or at home with their mother. T The typical physical development of a babys starts at borth.
