Team met per parents request to review service hours regarding counseling. Initially Mrs. Ruedemann requested that all counseling hours be removed. Due to Connor's inconsistent behaviors within the school setting the team suggested that Connor’s service hours be reduced rather than eliminated. Mrs. Ruedemann agreed with the team’s decision to have Connor meet with a counselor for 30 min every other week. In addition, to service hours Mrs. Ruedemann expressed concerns with Connors accountability within the classroom setting. She requested two changes be made to the accommodations and modifications page of the IEP. These changes include a five day time limit added to accepted late work, and that modified homework/projects/tests, be changed
Robbie J. is a 19 year old African American male and at this time he is currently a freshman at Henderson County University. The client has been referred to this office by his school residential advisor and family doctor. The reason behind this is that the client has not been attending his college classes and has been caught drinking on campus by campus security three times in the past two months. His parents have been advised by the school that if the client doesn’t attend counseling sessions he will be asked to leave and not return back for the following academic school year. Implementing and designing a comprehensive school-counseling program needs to ensure that they are meeting state standards as well as the ASCA National Model. Assessing the comprehensive school-counseling program allows school counselors consider how well they are meeting the needs of the students, and meeting the requirements of the ASCA National Model and state requirements. School counselors gain the ability to assess the effectiveness of the program and answer the question “How are students different as a result of the school counseling program” (Susan Ireland, M. ED., 2014, slide 1).
The American Counseling Association (ACA) developed the code of ethics with six principles in mind that they thought were the foundation for ethical behavior and decision making: autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, justice, fidelity and veracity (American Counseling Association, 2014). This lead to the six different purposes for the code of ethics. First, it sets ethical obligations and ethical guidance for professional counselors (American Counseling Association, 2014). Second, it recognizes ethical dilemmas that are relevant (American Counseling Association, 2014). Third, it clarifies what is ethically expected and accepted of its members (American Counseling Association, 2014). Fourth, it is an ethical guide for members deciding the best course of action and expectations for conduct, when it comes to those using their counseling services (American Counseling Association, 2014). Fifth, it supports the mission of the American Counseling Association (American Counseling Association, 2014). Finally, it has standards that serve as a baseline for questions and complaints for ACA members (American Counseling Association, 2014). To fulfill the purposes of the code of ethics, the ACA categorizes the ethics into nine different areas (American Counseling Association, 2014).
When reviewing the Virginia State Board of Professional Counseling, they were quite disturbing and I was shocked that professional counselors were charged with such acts. The first case that I reviewed was for Ms. Kateresea L. Ford violated 18 VAC 115-20-130 (B)(1) and (4) and 18 VAC 115-20-140(A)(1),(3), and (8) of the Regulations Governing of Professional Counseling because she fraudulently billed Medicaid for residential services that were never provided. Ms. Ford pleaded guilty and was convicted of one felony count of Health Care Fraud. Ms. Ford was the owner/manager of the Delta House, LLC, which was located in Richmond, Virginia. She was sentenced to two months incarceration, three years of supervised release and one year of home monitoring. She also must pay restitution of $81,216.08. There was no pity on Ms. Ford I see. I wouldn’t have imagined that she would be punished so harshly for her lies. To makes matters worse, when Ms. Ford tried to get her licenses reinstated, she was denied because
Being in a counseling setting is something that one would have to get used to if they wanted to pursue a career doing so. This situation was entirely new to me as I am sure it is for a lot of people who are doing this assignment. For the remainder of this evaluation, I will be discussing some key topics that include a case summary and a detailed review of my personal performance. The first topic that I will be discussing is the case summary.
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to show how using different research methods such as: quantitative, qualitative, single-case designs, action research, and outcome-based research is used to form an intervention focused on an adolescent with any kind of phobia based on the Solution-Focused Brief therapy. Not to retract in time, but to help the client come up with a possible solution of their phobia within a short amount of time. Different researches show the different ways and strategies of information gained by different counselors.
This essay is an evaluation of two counselling models applied to a situation where a client has experienced loss and how a counsellor can create a therapeutic relationship with the client using each counselling model. It will also contain other skills a counsellor could use to obtain/maintain a good therapeutic relationship with the client.
As a counseling student, it is very important to formulate a counseling theory tailored to ones’ own personality and beliefs. A counselor may choose a single theory to model when practicing therapy or pick and choose components and techniques from various theories, otherwise known as eclecticism. No theory is considered right or wrong. Understanding the different therapeutic approaches are important to effective counseling, however, counselors must also understand their own personal value, view of human nature, human behavior, counseling techniques and the purpose and goals of counseling. Understanding these components along with the different theoretical approaches will provide the counselor with a 9 knowledge of their own counseling, orientation and is essential to not only the productivity of counseling but the growth of the counselor as well.
