Studying abroad to Costa Rica is one of the best decisions I have made this school year. I expected the trip to be amazing, and I was not let down. Of course, not everything was exactly the way I thought it would be, but that made the trip even better. I expected the country to be beautiful, but it was far more beautiful than I ever imagined. The terrain features, forests, and wildlife absolutely blew my mind. In the dense rainforest of Monteverde there were more plants than I’ve ever seen before. Every plant competed against each other for their spot in the forest. Vines and other climbing plants overtook trees, and every other thing in the forest due to the extreme competition. My favorite plant that I saw while in Monteverde was the strangler …show more content…
I especially wanted to see the herps that inhabit Costa Rica, as well as the monkeys. I have never had the chance to see a monkey in the wild, but in Curu I got the chance to be up close and personal with a white-face capuchin! We were hiking through the forest when we stumbled upon a troop of them. They did not take kindly to us being there, and the leader of the troop began making noises and running at me to show that he wanted me to leave. So, I looked away from him and kept walking. It was a unique experience I will never …show more content…
Their food, homes, and general way of life was something completely new to me. I loved the bright coloration of all the buildings, and how simple they were. All the people I had the chance to meet were extremely friendly, and seemed to be proud of who they were and where they were from. The food was also amazing. I have never been so happy to eat as I was while in Costa Rica. Every meal it seemed like there was something new to try. Rice and beans were a staple of every meal, but I never got tired of eating them. The fruit was fresh and delicious, as was everything else that I got the chance to eat. I didn’t expect the meals to be as good and filling as they were, but man was I wrong. I don’t believe I ever finished a meal without being completely and utterly
Costa Rica is currently at the population of 4,500,000. The national territory is 31,682 square miles. If you compare that to size of the United States at 3.79 million square miles, its a very small piece of land. The capital is San Jose located in almost the middle of the country. The country of Ecuador has many different kind of nice features. For example: the rivers, the mountains, the different kinds of animals, the view of Ecuador itself, and the different wonderful places there are to visit. Ecuador is a fun place to go. Ecuador has different animals that we do not have in the United States like the Amazon frog, they have the largest export for bananas, they have places where the elevation is really high. I learned that Ecuador has the highest mountain. They also have a place in Ecuador where you can stand on the
The Other Side of Colombia Travel adds interesting dimensions to a person’s life. Some people find difficulty and unfamiliarity to be compelling reasons to avoid travel, while others thrive on the adventure of new and unknown destinations. I’ve been fortunate to embrace the latter, and have travelled and lived in many places, and a few countries. Colombia was my home for just over two years. The people, places, customs and food are spectacular! The reputation of illicit activities are confined and few, and I experienced none. There is a very progressive governmental structure, and Colombia does not have any border issues at this time. The people are welcoming, friendly, and enjoyable to socialize with. I lived in Barranquilla, a city of nearly two million inhabitants, and is
In my travels of the world I have found myself immersed in many cultures and varieties of ethnicity; I have been very fortunate to live in a day and age where such communication and experience is possible in one lifetime. I have seen La Cathedral de Notre Dame, the Statue of Liberty, the home of Da Vinci, and so many more wonderfully spiritual and historic monuments. Yet still I can say with the utmost certainty that no location has left such a lasting impact on my soul as the quaint, simple country of Costa Rica. Although many places have penetrated me with a sense of what the majestic earth and her inhabitants are capable of and have forced me to question whether or not anything is beyond the grasp of human ingenuity, none have brought

Life expectancy in Costa Rica is actually higher than any other Central American country. The average life expectancy is 80 years for both men and women. A quality culture, cheap healthcare, and a low crime rate contribute to this high rate. Some of the most dangerous Central American countries are near Costa Rica, but they mostly don’t affect the country. Life expectancy and quality of life is actually increasing every year in Costa Rica. This rate is exceptionally high compared to the rest of the world, including the U.S. It has one of the best healthcare systems which is why a lot of Westerners retire to this tropical country. On the flip side, there are some natural borne diseases that derive from the rainforests areas, but whatever ailment a traveler has there is a herb found in the jungles that can most likely cure it. Sometimes mosquito borne diseases such Malaria is imminent in the swamp areas. On the bright side, there are no vaccinations required to enter Costa Rica so that implies the country is generally safe.
Costa Rica is located in Central America, and on the north side of it is Nicaragua and to the south of it is Panama. The Pacific Ocean is to the west of giving us beautiful Beaches and by the east side there is the even better Caribbean Sea. The percentage of Costa Ricans in Costa Rica is over 70%, but many people from the other South American countries have imported there for a better life and education.
Costa Rica has a narrow Pacific coastal region that rises abruptly into central highlands. The highlands, forming the rugged backbone of the country, descend much more gradually toward the generally wider Caribbean (Atlantic) Plain. The Pacific coast is generally lowland in character, and, like the Caribbean coast, it is lined with white sandy beaches. The country has made use of its
The dominican Republic is known as the breadbasket of the Caribbean because it grows, farms, and catches almost everything that’s served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Dominican Republic was the first colony founded by Christopher Columbus. It used to go by “La Hispaniola” in colonial times. Also the flag of the Dominican Republic is the only national flag in the world to feature the image of a bible. My country is the Dominican Republic. I learned about the culture, food, religion, imports and exports, geography, sports, and family. All of it was very eye opening.
One country I would like to visit in the next couple years is Costa Rica. Costa Rica is a Central American country situated between Panama and Nicaragua. Costa Rica is popular tourist attraction known for its rain forest, beaches, volcanoes and pre-columbian history.
Costa Rica is one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world. It's filled with beautiful beaches, abundant wildlife, lush rainforest, lovely waterfalls and dozens of volcanos. It's known by many to be one of the friendliest locations on earth, being one of the few countries without a standing military force. If these facts don't sell you then knowing that it is also one of the cheapest travel capitals in Central America sure will. There is almost never a bad time to visit Costa Rica but in January it is not only the perfect weather-wise but also in the midst of a Shoulder period making hotel prices and travel cost much more affordable!
We ate at a restaurant there in which the owner made ox carts. He did all of the woodwork using hydroelectricity with a waterwheel in the back. They were all also hand painted and hand carved pieces. It was very beautiful. We finally got to Turriabla that night. The next day we went to the college and botanical gardens of CATIE. In the botanical gardens we got to try all of the different fruits grown in Costa Rica. They are all very good and different tasting. Even the mangos and pineapples taste so much better there. Now that we are back I dislike the ones here. One example of something we tried there was called the miracle fruit. It made anything you ate afterwards that was sour taste sweet and it actually worked. We toured the coffee plantation there as well as the college campus and had more traditional Costa Rican food in the cafeteria there. Finally, in Turriabla we went to a fruit market and an ice cream shop and practiced our Spanish. We then prepared for our third stop.
Quality of life in Costa Rica is high. Costa Rica provides series of tax incentives for encouragement of foreign investment, making it a very
