Of course we can express our opinions but we have to recognize that those opinions are ignorant to the context of said culture. However, since human rights are universal that implies a shared understanding of the duty of care and entitlements of people by virtue of being human. Young girls cannot give consent for the practice or perform an appropriate cost/benefit analysis for future risks as it relates to medical issues and cultural acceptance. The UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is a legally blinding treaty that protects children’s rights internationally, and this may fall under that protection.
I feel we need to look at the purpose of the act and how said purpose relates to the well being of women. The act is described
After careful consideration Congress has decided to release new statewide rules for Women. The cause of these newly profound laws sparked from recent a recent Supreme court case. The court case Smith vs Smith has forever shook the hearts of not only of we, Americans but the entire World. The case started out in Judicial court but was taken over by the Supreme court because of how controversial the case truly was. The case sparked when husband John smith returned home from work to find the house completely empty and no food on the dinner table. John was so concerned about the safety of his wife , Mary , because she was not in the kitchen cooking. Mary had taken it upon herself to go to shopping
The roles of women, and the views society have on them have changed dramatically throughout the past century due to the movements and events that have taken place in America’s history. The reason for the change corresponds directly to the Women’s Suffrage movement, the rise of feminism and the Women’s Rights Movement. The transition of women’s roles in the 20th century has encouraged them to fight for their rights but unfortunately the fight has not been finished. Even with successes, like the ratification of the 19th amendment, and various laws protecting women, they still lacking equal rights in America and it wont change with out the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). If the Equal Rights Amendment is passed women will have the same equality as men under the constitution, discrimination will cease to exist, and as a world leader, America cannot afford to see this issue last any
The procedure is done so often in some cultures that the procedure has become the norm. Another issue that is briefly discussed in both V-Day and the articles is using professional medical advice and doctors during procedures. Doctors should be able to make the procedure less painful with less emotional scaring, however, the use of medical advice does not follow cultural rules/regulations. There is still a large percentage of girls who have this procedure done (over half in Indonesia). Additionally, there is no benefit to this procedure, yet some cultures continue to have it performed. This is another aspect that I do not fully understand. Many cultures realize there is no benefit to the procedure, but it is still performed regularly. I was even more surprised to learn that this procedure is performed in America (even though it is typically performed for people who have immigrated). When the procedure is practiced in America, I wonder the type of conditions the procedure is performed in. I can not imagine this procedure is performed in hospitals or private practices.
The AHRQ organization has several portfolios’ that are funded and supports research projects. Such portfolios are information technology, health patient safety, prevention and care management, and value portfolios. Within these portfolio’s, grants are there to fund new projects that relate to each category. Within each portfolio, research has been started and effectiveness of these projects is underway. Some clinical research projects are a set of priority conditions of importance to the Medicaid, Medicare, and SCHIP programs. Projected initiatives are to improve quality of care. The Value portfolio finds ways to reduce unnecessary cost and waste while maintaining or improving quality without adding cost which is a critical, national need (2012, p.5).
Gun control nowadays seems to be a huge problem and prominent topic of discussion due to the horrific events happening all over the nation from convenient stores to college campuses. A Boise State professor of biology and criminal justice, Greg Hampikian, decided to voice his opinion about control through an article published by the New York Times. After his state legislature passed a bill that permits guns in state colleges and university campuses. Hampikian mocks the state legislature and uses sarcasm and irony throughout the article, but eventually gets his point across towards the middle and end of the article on the topic of allowing hand guns to be on campus.
This served a very likable element for the women as the got a much fair consideration, i.e. the Act was absolutely meant for their survival and well being .
In terms of policy design, the ACA does benefit the American population, expanding coverage and giving Americans better access to care. Moreover the ACA focuses on preventative health measures which is better for the population health in general. This falls in-line with our National Agenda on health as my health policy framework outlines. As mentioned before, the debate of health care reform has been going on for almost a century and it is agreed upon that something must be done to address the issues in the health care system, both in terms of healthcare delivery and health insurance.
Although many western cultures denounce these practices as being barbaric and unfair these western cultures actually practice genital surgery on children. For example, many baby boys in the United States are circumcised at birth for both aesthetic reasons and for health concerns. Children born with both male and female genitalia are seen as medical emergencies and surgeries to correct this anomaly are done as soon as possible.
Such examples include establishing shelter and rape crisis hotlines to care for victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence, form place for women to work and receive pay and offered counseling for parenthood/abortions. The civil right act would also establish women to seek occupation was once considered a “man’s job” and become an independent
There are a lot of issues facing the upcoming congress. Hence, I consider the women act as a very crucial issue to be looked at. The congress is expecting a heated debate on the violation of women act. The women’s act is an article which was specifically signed to protect women against several grounds termed to be unfair to them. When Congress passed the Violence against Women Act (VAWA) in 1994, obviously it was a milestone federally as it acknowledged the scourge of domestic violence. It also emphasized on a very workable change, destined to address the problem of the police treating such cases as domestic and private family affairs instead of treating them as real and pressing crimes. (Gordon, 2002)
Those with the mindset of ignoring it, can observe these practices and say how bad or ugly it may be, but they will soon forget about it. They will move on with their lives and have no concern for these young girls and women who are suffering with their cultural practice. A “cultural practice” that has harmful effects to a women’s health and well-being (242). This tradition needs attention to be brought and kept in, for it has forced women to experience unbearable pain for the rest of their
According to Epstein and Buhovac, (2014), costing system is a process designed to monitor the costs incurred in a certain business. Costing systems are meant to advise the management on how to choose the most appropriate course of action with cost efficiency and capability. According to Cardinaels and Labro (2009) costing system provides detailed cost information needed by management needs to control current operations with the aim of improving the future. Below are some of the costing systems that are common to many organizations (Epstein & Buhovac, 2014).
Cost-benefit analysis is defined in the business arena as a tool that helps organizations make critical decisions by adding up all the benefits of making a decision and then subtracting out the costs associated with those decisions. Utilitarianism consists of an ethical theory founded on the principle idea that the best moral action is the one that maximizes happiness for the greatest amount of people. The utilitarian ethical theory, therefore utilizes cost-benefit in its analysis; however, several limitations exist when using this approach.
“To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is about Scout ( A naive narrator) who tells the story of her early childhood. This includes the story of a court case and about so told notorious icon. This book takes place in the 1930s in an old town called Maycomb, this town was nothing but perfect as it has a strong degree of judgment on appearance and what people were said to be. Through reading this book you'll understand not to judge people by their appearance, what they were said to be(rumor) or what they have done(action). You need to know them well before making assumptions about them. You might not know who they truly are unless you socialize with them for a while, judging people based on appearance or what they are said to be can impact the person who's being judged in big ways.Tom Robinson, Atticus and Arthur “Boo” Radley were all victims of judgment because of their appearance ,what people said about them or what they have done in the past or present.
To be rational is to understand and calculate the costs and benefits for each of our options and make the decision that maximizes the value and utility of of self interest. However, humans often behave irrationally due to our emotions, morality and desire for immediate pleasure. Given the above depiction, Dan Ariely argues that we will be acting irrational if we don’t commit acts of thievery since the expected benefits of committing the act obviously outweighs the cost given that “nobody would find out”. His definition of rationality is more or less similar to what most economists believe in, which is making decisions strictly based on the highest grossing financial benefits. Therefore, under his definition of rationality and irrationality, we would be acting “irrational” by succumbing to our morality and conscience, and not commit the act that would bring us the most economic benefits. Under his assumption, there is no cost or risk of committing acts of thievery, then to be “rational” under his definition would be to steal whatever there is out there as it’s practically the same thing as drinking water from a public water fountain.
