In death, some find grief, but others find power. With acclaimed power, those who wield it, will surely be corrupted. In Macbeth, Shakespeare makes it apparent power corrupts everyone.
Power is the very focal point in Macbeth, and it all started with the tale of the three witches. The three witches with their wise premonitions, tell Banquo and Macbeth of their futures. With the promise of power, Macbeth went for an immediate plan to murder for the power. Macbeth’s plan evolved into murder King Duncan and then Malcolm to become the king of Scotland.
To further show corruption Macbeth lied about what he was doing.

To further the theme of corruption, after Macbeth has murdered King Duncan, he plans the murder of all that threaten his demise. “MACBETH… For Banquo’s issue have I filed my mind;/ For them the gracious Duncan have I murdered/… Than is his father’s, must embrace the fate/ Of that dark hour”(Ⅲ.Ⅰ.66-67,138-139). This plan to kill Banquo and his son shows that Macbeth very character has changed in the worst way. For Macbeth to even consider murdering his best friend is the very way Shakespeare shows that power corrupts everyone. The power that changed Macbeth is not only realized by the reader, but also, by Macbeth himself. Macbeth had clung to the fact that the murders that he committed were for his own health. But, at the beginning he still felt guilty and as he got more power he learned to forget the deaths and to go along with his trend of murdering all who may oppose Macbeth’s title and power. So when the end came for Macbeth he stood strong in solitude in the fact that power had completely corrupted him. “MACBETH… They have tied me to a stake. I cannot fly,/ But bearlike I must fight the course. What’s he/ That was not born of woman? Such a one/ Am I to fear, or none”(Ⅴ.Ⅷ.1-4). Before Macbeth was murdered he believed in the Witched so much that he did not forge a security around himself. Based on the fact the he s nt to be killed
William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is a tragedy in which the main characters are obsessed by the desire for power. Macbeth’s aspiration for power blinds him to the ethical implications of his dreadful acts. The more that Shakespeare’s Macbeth represses his murderous feelings, the more he is haunted by them. By analyzing his hallucinations it is possible to trace his deteriorating mental state and the trajectory of his ultimate fall. Throughout the play Macbeth is never satisfied with himself. He feels the need to keep committing crime in order to keep what he wants most: his kingship. The harder Macbeth tries to change his fate the more he tends to run into his fate. His ambition and struggle for power was Macbeth’s tragic flaw in the play.
Power is something one can find in all aspects of life. Whether in a relationship between two people or over an entire country, many people hold power in their lives. What is done with that power is up to the person who holds it and can be a strong reflection of their character. Too many people in positions of power become so wrapped up in wanting total control, that they lose sight of what is right and wrong. The desire and drive for power is a quality that is imbedded in many human beings, but it is the degree in which one is willing to go that separates those who reach that power in a noble way from those who use any means necessary to get what they ultimately want. In the play, Macbeth by Shakespeare, Macbeth’s desire to gain power is the main focus of the play and his ambition to gain this power leads him to lose himself and all reasoning he once embodied. Macbeth first shows his immense desire and ambition to gain power when he and Lady Macbeth actually plot to kill Duncan so that Macbeth can become the king. Macbeth gains power over others through the murders of King Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff’s entire family along with his servants. After each murder, Macbeth becomes more confident in his search to gain power.
Comfortable in his kingship, Macbeth doesn’t heed this warning, stating “...that will never be,” (4.1.104). Macbeth’s ego truly cannot digest that he could be in any sort of danger, essentially putting himself on a pedestal
And thou opposed, being of no woman born, Yet I will try the last. Before my body. I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff, And damn'd be him that first cries, 'Hold, enough!’’ Macbeth’s heinous and savage acts are driven by his consuming desires and ambition.
What is power? In the tragedy of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare there are many different takes on how power can be portrayed. In the beginning of the play the three witches give Macbeth three prophecies. To fulfill the three prophecies Macbeth kills the current king, King Duncan. At the end, Macbeth is tragedy slayed by Macduff because of his tragic flaw, ambition. Although some may say that Macbeth is the most powerful character in the play , Lady Macbeth is the most powerful character because she is power hungry, ambitious, and cunning.
This awakens a hungry desire for power within, he becomes so consumed by the idea he starts to contemplate what actions will need to be taken for this prophecy to become true. The consumption of power takes over his life and he is willing to achieve it at any cost. Even though Macbeth is a huge factor in wanting power, Lady Macbeth wants power just as much as Macbeth wants it. With power taking over Macbeth's life, it also takes over Lady Macbeth’s life. The power leads to corruption and tyranny.

At the time, it was acceptable to kill for your right to the throne. Shakespeare challenges what was considered a social norm of the time in order to show the grasp it holds on those who crave power and are willing to kill for it. Shakespeare accurately conveys his opinions on how broken this social mechanism is throughout Macbeth with the corruption of such a pure character who goes on to kill several people just to acquire and maintain power. The countless deaths are not only a plot device, but Shakespeare conveying his thoughts on the ascension
Shakespeare’s plays all contain themes that are still relevant to our lives today. Macbeth is no exception. Here Shakespeare utilizes an extensive variety of themes throughout the context of the play and how the characters exploit their actions towards each other. Both can be found widely amongst the current generation and therefore are still
