Men of Athens, you accuse me of corrupting the youth of Athens, but I must combat this accusation. The fact that this trial is being held is preposterous and honestly a waste of time and focus for Athens. Before you can accuse me of corrupting the the youth, you must first ask yourself who really positively influences the youth in society? It certainly cannot be the laws because the laws are not a person rather a thing...correct? So It must be all the councilors and members of the assembly that improve the youth. If all of these men here today have an influence on the youth, then it is rather absurd to assume that I alone am the sole corrupter. If you take any property of an object and separate it from the physical object, considering it by itself, then you are contemplating a form. For example, if you separate the squareness of a dice from its color, and its weight, etc. Now consider just squareness by itself, you are thinking of the form of squareness. This property exists apart from the dice, in a different mode of existence than the dice. The form is not just the idea of squareness you have in your mind. It exists independently of the dice and independently of whether someone thinks of it. All square objects, not just this dice, participate or copy this same form of squareness. What if we took something harder to explain such as beauty? We usually associate beauty with people's bodies. So to truly understand beauty you have to appreciate all beautiful bodies. After that you have to see the beauty in not just the body, but more importantly the mind. The result of this is you will see beauty in practices and laws, and that every type beauty is related.
