For my themes I chose Survival and hope, without hope they wouldn’t have survival. The reason they ended up okay in the end in Copper Sun was because they never gave up hope and never stopped trying to survive. In copper sun survival was a major theme in the book. When Amari first was enslaved and taken from her home, she met this woman named Afi, Afi told her “I see power in you. Certain people are chosen to survive. I don’t know why but you are one of those that must remember the past and tell those yet unborn, you must live.” Hope was also a theme presented in Copper sun. At the beginning when people started dying and getting afraid and wanting to give up Amari said, “As long as we have life, we have hope.” It shows how strong of a person …show more content…
She also never lost hope when her grandfather died and she had no one else. She always figured out a way to survive and never lost hope. From fever I think Mattie has the most significant roll, she never lost hope and was always doing things for others and staying positive. When her grandfather was sick, she helped him, she helped take care of Joseph’s children when they had the fever, and she also took in a little girl named Nell because she was all alone with no family even though Mattie was a child herself. Mattie was the main character but that’s not why she was the most significant, she was important because she had a lot of character development from the beginning to the end and showed a lot of importance throughout the book. Cruelty was show a lot in both books, Copper had a ton more cruelty with the slavery, people killing others, people abusing others, forced starvation, and inhumane things nobody should ever have to go through. The cruelty in Fever was family members letting their loved ones die and kicking them out on the streets because they were ill, it also showed cruelty with fake doctors and people robbing others and the havoc on the
In the novel, Copper Sun, Sharon M. Draper quotes a fictional auctioneer: “Do I hear more than ten pounds for this fine example of African womanhood? Hardly a scratch on her. Bright enough to be taught simple commands, like ‘Come here’ and ‘Lie down’” (52). Amari, the terrified teenager the auctioneer was talking about, was recently taken from her home, chained, and crammed into a slave ship set for America. While on the slave ship, people underwent hunger, sickness, thirst, rape, and death. Though Sharon M. Draper wrote these characters as fictional, they correctly portray people that have lived during that time period. Because of this, Copper Sun is historically accurate and correctly depicts the story of an African girl, as well as the
My first theme is don't give up. The theme of don't give up is a important theme because she is always running into issues. When Kira is born at the beginning of the book she learns her father has been taken by beats. A few pages later her mom dies to a unknown sickness. They burn all her stuff as to take precautions in case the sickness was contagious. Another way the theme was important was when Vandara took Kira to the council of guardians to try and make her go out to the field because she had a disability and they usually gave disabilitated kids to the beasts at birth. She could not give up hope that she would be sent to the beasts and at the end she was allowed to stay and got the job as the weaver for the singers robe. This shows that people can push through bad situations and are able to profit from it. You should never give up at anything you do.
As soon as the fever involved Mattie’s mother, Grandfather was ordered to take Mattie somewhere safe. During their travel, Mattie had noticed that grandfather was getting ill. She was to find each of them food and to take care of them both. Since Grandfather was ill they could not leave Philadelphia, Mattie was to take care of Grandfather while he was sick. “ ‘Here.’ I fumbled with the canteen. ‘You need same water. You’ll feel much better’ “(Anderson 86). Grandfather had helped Mattie become independent and help her take care of him. He had helped her become more independent because he taught her how to depend on herself and to be braver because of his actions.
In the books “Copper Sun” and “Fever 1793” The two main characters are Amari and Mattie. The two girls from these books share a lot in common starting with their age, they are both young girls around the same age, being this young that means they still live with family, living with their families they have a lot of chores and things to do to help out. They also are very similar in their family backgrounds, In Fever 1793 Mattie’s father and grandfather both are dead and in Copper Sun Amari loses her little brother, mother, and father. Throughout both the books, Amari and Mattie had to survive on their own and constantly had to be making huge choices to either save themselves or the people they cared about. In Fever, Mattie
The theme of this book is to be strong through the toughest times. This theme is shown throughout the book when Kira is the only one alive in her family, Anabella passes away, and even when Matt was lost. Another theme could be trust your instincts. Kira has all these thoughts about the council, Annabella, beasts and many more but she keeps them to herself. Day after day more thoughts pile up. If Kira were to trust herself, her life would have a greater quality. As you read more of the story the theme becomes a larger part of
The book Copper Sun by Sharon Draper is a historical fiction story about slavery. The setting of the story is in Africa and a plantation in South Carolina. Amari doubts herself through most of the book. Amari gains strength through her awful experiences. Polly is the white girl and is the indentured servant. In the novel, the settings of Africa and the plantation have many similarities and difference.
In the beginning Mattie experiences grief for the first time since her dad died. Her friend and co worker Polly, had suddenly died one night when she was sewing. Even though Mattie wasn’t able to pay her respects to Polly’s mother she knew there was other things to worry about. Only a few chapters later Mattie’s mom became sick with the same disease that was now raging across the city. Mattie took care of her mother while she was experiencing the symptoms of the fever. It is clear throughout the beginning of the book Mattie perseveres through hard times even if her family and friends are sick and dying.
In the book Mattie is definitely a strong character. When Taylor meets Mattie she is surprised. Back in Pittman, where Taylor is from a woman would never own and run a tire store all by herself. Mattie may not be gaining much
These theme for my book are very good themes about the book. The themes help the reader know what the book is about. The characters in the book are important to the book because with out the characters the book would make no sense. Every book must have characters and themes to the book because without those two things there is no book. The three theme from the book talk very good about the book. They describe what Brian has to go through in order to survive the cold winter in the canadian wilderness. One theme tells us how lonely it is in the wilderness and how lonely Brian is and how he has no one to talk to but a skunk. So those are some of my theme and characters of my story brian’s winter.
The religion detailed and examined throughout Don Talayesva’s “Sun Chief” can be difficult to understand and near impossible to appreciate. At first glance to the casual reader it can appear shallow and ridiculous; a religion created around the wants and needs of the Hopi but not based on any empirical or even supposed sacred evidence. When coupled with The Sacred Canopy however, the reader begins to understand the simplistic beauty of their religion providing necessary guidance and support to the Hopi tribe. The reader also is able to relate to Don’s religion in terms of the love one has for his or her own dogma and the importance it plays in an individual’s life.
The most reasonable idea that allows Mattie to be the protagonist is that she cared for a little girl named Nell even though she was struggling to care for herself. I predict that having Nell in the hands of Mattie, Grandfather dying, and Mother being gone made sense come to Mattie assuring her that caring for others as well as yourself alone is a huge responsibility. This quote shows Mattie’s thought after Grandfather’s death, “No, I could care for myself. I was not a child.” The two character traits that explains how Mattie matured is independent and a hero. She is independent because she was on her own for awhile and had to find food for herself and care for herself. This piece of evidence shows how she was alone with no one to feed or care for her, “I was alone; Grandfather was dead and Mother missing.” She had no one to count on but herself. Mattie being a hero shows a lot of her maturing. This is because she didn’t care for lots of things such as doing chores, but when things changed she realized that other people were in the need of her help like
To begin with, one major theme that continuously played a part throughout the entire book is desire. To many of the characters, it was the one urge that they could never overcome. One
Yearning for the urge to see the sun as it moves around the earth and stops in Orlando, thi would be the first time I get to see the sun shine its light on the dirt diamond and bring life to the blades of grass that lie in the shape of a quarter circle. The sun overcomes the gigantic trees, leaving the human eye to see the tiny drops of water on every perfectly cut dark green blade of grass; not a single blade out of place. The dull yellow along with the tangy orange light behind the soft grey clouds, slowly moving with the spin of the world, illuminate the diamond in such beauty and awe, too good not to capture. The diamond is amazing; the sun reflects the little specks of dirt as if they are glowing. Looking over the woven yellow fence, the clouds partially cover the sun and direct its rays through the gap in the trees; it looks as if the sun is trying to hide behind the trees, but keeps popping out like a little kid playing peek-a-boo. The sun that breaks through lets a white puff of smoke to appear every time my lungs let out air, they breathe in the fresh cold air, bringing new life to the body every time. The crisp air is blended into the smell of the sugary cake that was made the night before at the building less than sixty feet away from where I began my day, and as it sinks into my nose making the morning savory and sweet, I realize the day is going to be a new experience. Although the wonderment of the diamond is breathtaking the view does not last long, for the
Copper T is an intrauterine device which is said to be an effective form of contraception for women. This option is usually given to women who have delivered a baby in the past. Insertion of Copper T is an invasive procedure that needs to be conducted by an expert. The device is placed into the uterus of the woman with a plastic string tied to the end of the IUD hanging from the cervix to the vagina.
The sun is the largest object in the solar system. It is a middle-sized star and there are many other stars out in the universe just like it. Even though it is only a middle-sized star it is large enough to hold over 1 million Earth’s inside if it were hollow. The temperature on the sun is far too much for any living thing to bear. On the surface it is 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit and the core is a stunning 27,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit. But don’t worry we are over 90,000 million miles away, the sun could never reach us, at least not yet. The sun is a still a middle aged star and later in its life it will become a Red Giant. In this stage it will get bigger, and closer to us causing a temperature increase and most likely the
