Mid Sunday afternoon, the Miami Dolphins settled in on their QB for the upcoming NFL Season. At 35, Jay Cutler signed a one year, $10 million deal with the team. Cutler could not find work in the league and contemplated retiring and working as an NFL Analysts. He is reuniting with his 2015 Chicago Bears offensive coordinator coach Adam Gase, now head coach of the Dolphins. However, the signing is meet with mixed reviews.
Many speculated the Dolphins would sign the much younger and arguably more talented Colin Kaepernick. These days though, Kaepernick is surrounded by controversy following last season after kneeling and refusing to stand during the National Anthem before every NFL game in silent protest of the 'Black Lives Matter' movement.
He then turned the ball over to Matt Moore, who looked sharp with 10/14 passing for 122 yards and 1 TD. He was also sacked 3 times, which follows suit with one of the Dolphins' major problems last year, the offensive line. Fortunately, they did a much better job of opening holes for the running game, which was led by Isaiah Pead with 50 yards on 10 carries. After giving up 10 first-quarter points, the defense looked sharp, shutting down the Giants' offense the rest of the way.
After the 2011 NFC Championship, when fans were labeling him a quitter for not playing through a torn MCL, I stuck with him. When fans yelled and called for his job due to his poor on field mannerisms, I stuck with him. After the Bears paid him like an elite quarterback, I stuck with him, but I can finally say this; Jay Cutler I am done with you. We know what you are; an inefficient NFL quarterback. Sure, you have a big arm, but you have no pocket awareness, you throw a lot of interceptions, you’re a poor leader, and you act like you’re bigger than the game. You will never lead an NFL team to a championship. You may be the starter in Chicago, but the only reason you are is because of your enormous contract. They tried to trade you, but not one team was willing to take on that outrageous
Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers quarterback, started much controversy against America when he remained seated for the national anthem during a preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. Kaepernick seems to had developed an enmity against America. He feels that he and fellow African American athletes should not show patriotism to their country because of the unfair treatment their ancestors went through throughout history. Although Kaepernick does have a point about the racial discrimination colored people went through throughout American history, he still has no right to disrespect his country. Kaepernick himself is not black, he is white, but he is just drawing attention to himself.
Jay Cutler, who went 51-51 as the quarterback of the Bears, is available, as is Robert Griffin, a 2012 Pro Bowler. Ryan Fitzpatrick doesn’t have a contract for next season, nor does Case Keenum or Blaine Gabbert (the latter started ahead of Kaepernick in San Francisco last year). Teams could also sign Chase Daniel or Christian Ponder if they’re looking for a viable NFL backup quarterback. Teams don’t lack quarterback options in free agency, and right now there are certainly better quarterbacks to be signed than Kaepernick. It’s as simple as that. The places where Kaepernick could go are dwindling by the day, as well, and we haven’t even factored in the 15-plus quarterbacks who could be drafted onto rosters at the end of
On January 18, 2015, the New England Patriots faced off against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game and proceeded to demoralize them 45-7. After the game a report came out that the Colts had noticed that the air pressure in one of the footballs used in the game was somewhat lower than the league minimum. What ensued was one of the most vexed and frankly ridiculous controversies in NFL history. For months there were disputes both over whether or not the balls were actually under inflated, and later whether or not the team or the quarterback, Tom Brady, knew the balls were tampered with. A massive amount of media coverage was devoted to the argument and the subsequent trial, and in that coverage, many “facts” regarding both the
The controversy over the name of the Washington’s “Redskins” has gotten a lot of media attention. Yet According to America Now, the owner, Dan Snyder refuses to change it. “We’ll never change the name. It’s that simple. NEVER…” The outrage and the effort from the Native Americans is placing the owner of the Dan Snyder under the media’s scrutiny. Will a change be made or will the owner keep his words?
A big controversial topic going around in the news over the past few weeks has been Colin Kaepernick and his stand to end the hardship for people of color and police brutality in the United States. This silent stand started early this preseason when a number of different events involving people of color and police officers around the United States not getting along. However, this has started to become more publicized as more and more people in the National Football League have been joining in with Colin Kaepernick and taking a knee or sitting during the national anthem. This stand has become way more than a simple silent stand as many people around the nation are starting to voice their opinions on this subject. Even though everyone argues their thoughts on this subject.
Through his first three seasons as the Quarterback for the Chicago Bears, he averaged a horrible 1.29 TD/Int ratio. Yet, the Bears decided to make him the highest paid Quarterback at the time. “It's a big chunk of money to commit to an oft-criticized player like Cutler” (SbNation). Mike Sando, a reporter for ESPN Chicago ranked Cutler’s contract last in the NFL. Said Sando, “Coaches brought in to help Cutler keep getting fired. Meanwhile, Cutler keeps cashing fat checks. Although the true guarantees in his deal were reasonable on paper, the Bears became accountable for another $25 million after Cutler remained on the roster long enough for injury-only guarantees to become fully guaranteed” (Forbes). Cutler’s criticism not only came with his poor play, but with his contract he was awarded
The Miami Dolphins, a professional football team located in Miami, Florida, has been a part of the National Football League (NFL) since 1966. The organization is most notably known for the 1972 Miami Dolphins football team, led by Don Shula, who went undefeated a won the Super Bowl. This team was the first and, so far, only team to have a perfect season capped off with winning the championship game. From 1966 to 1970 the Miami Dolphins were perceived like they are today as a losing franchise that could not win. That was until Don Shula, helped make the Dolphins one of the best franchises in the national football league during his reign as head coach. The time period from 1970 to 1993 were the golden years of the organization 's history; during this time the Miami Dolphins won 13 AFC East Titles, 5 AFC Championships, 2 Super Bowls and in 1973 set the league record 74,961 season ticket sales. During this time period the team had star players Larry Csonka, Dan Marino, Bob Griese, and several others that helped to build and sustain the Dolphins legacy. Since 1993 the Miami Dolphins have been known for holding three fantastic super bowls in 1994, 2006, and 2009, all of which were great games that the Dolphins were not involved in. While in recent years the Miami Dolphins have gone back to the original roots of field losing teams, the organization has developed a marketing strategy to improve the financial situation of the organization and maintain fan support. The Miami Dolphins
This protest started in August of 2016 by an NFL football player named Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid. They both played for the San Francisco 49ers and protested by kneeling during the National Anthem. Everyone present was confused and shocked at why he is doing it. No one ever expected someone out of the blue to begin kneeling during the few moments of unity and paying respects for others. Colin Kaepernick was soon interviewed after the
The Miami Dolphins are thirsty for a running back, currently with six of them active on the roster. The Dolphins’ stable of back include veteran Arian Foster, who Miami signed in free agency, last year’s fifth-round draft pick Jay Ajayi, this year’s draft selection Kenyan Drake and the familiar faces around Miami, Daniel Thomas and Damien Williams. But none of those backs are turning heads in the preseason like Pead.
After all the talk, some have determined Colin Kaepernick has rights, but that does not make him right for not standing during the national anthem. For some who may not know, Colin Kaepernick is a famous football player for the San Francisco 49ers. He recently refused to stand for the national anthem before his game in protest of what he deems are wrongdoings against African American in the United States.
“When you change the way you look at things. The things you look at change.”-Wayne Dyer an American philosopher. What are paradigms and paradigms shift? Well first of they can be seen everywhere but, a paradigm is a way someone sees something, their point of view or frame of reference. A paradigm shift is looking at something from a different perspective, it's like putting on a new pair of glasses. It’s also a fundamental change in approach or assumption. Paradigms can be anything like places people and even things The three stories Amir, Fairy Tale and the last spin are all great examples of both paradigms, paradigms shifts and how they all come together.
For many, speaking up for what you believe in can be difficult and risky, but ultimately worth the risk. Colin Kaepernick took this risk, by kneeling during the national anthem to stand up against “ police brutality and the inequality that people of color”(NFL). With many unjust shootings and police beatings of African Americans, Kaepernick’s teammate Eric Reid couldn’t stand the violence anymore after “the killing of Alton Sterling in my hometown Baton Rouge, La”(Reid). Reid joined Kaepernick in taking a knee during the national anthem, in doing this Kaepernick and Reid inspired other players to raise awareness and help those in need. This decision caused huge impacts on the nation, the NFL, and the youth who look up to the players of the NFL.
Jig is helpless, confused, and indecisive girl. She relies on the American and she hopes he can take charge of their unplanned pregnancy. However, the man avoids discussing the pregnancy and he pushes Jig to get rid of the baby. Jig is powerless to face two dilemmas. Firstly, she does not know whether to have an abortion or not. Baby is her dream, but it also a white elephant because she does not have ability to feed it. She faces ice as well as fire. One hand is ideal and cold snow-Pyrenees to represent an unborn life. On the other hand is realistic, hot, and stuffy bar to stand for the American’s pressure. Secondly, she hesitates if they break up. American’s a lot of sweet words cannot console and support her. Through American’s talking,
